New coach on d. Sounds like it will be ok?
More d-lineman. That is good.
Joey in Bozeman with a clinic. That will be cool.

Wow...Jimmy Lake sounds like a GREAT hire. http://www.easterneronline.com/vnews/di ... 4861c37549. I've met Brock a few times and think that he's a really nice guy, but I've always wondered about his coaching ability. Last year our secondary was the weakest part of our team, and the year before that when Brock was coaching the receivers, they were the weakest part of the team. I realize that injuries definitely played a part, but I think it will be good to get some new blood in there. And Jimmy Lake sounds like great fit!

As for the new DL, you can never have enough big bodies. We have added a lot of beef to our DL this year. The new guy is 6'4 270, Kolone is 6'4 290, Saucedo (Formerly OL) is 6'5 320, Hoff is 6'4 270, David Saitaga 5'11 270. And with Rogers (6'1 270) Papich (6'3 265) and eventually Mataikis (6'3 290), I really think that our DL is going to be a force, and should not have any trouble shutting down Lex (I can't reed gud) Hilliard.

I also think that our secondary will be revitalized with the additions of Smith, Hunter, and Davis to go along with the starters from last year. And we all know what our linebackers and offense is capable of next year. This could be a very exciting and special year...make sure you have your season tickets, I have a feeling that we will be selling out a lot of our games. Is it August yet?

Side note: Is Kane going to continue to help with the secondary this fall?

I wouldn't count on Hunter just yet. He did have a knee injury in the last scrimmage, and haven't heard anything since. I am pretty sure we will be fine if he doesn't return anyway.

One former player/coach that the Cats really missed the bus on was Mike McCafferty. He put in for the d-line position, but they passed on him. He was an assistant coach for the Cats for 2 years, and now he is teaching in Cali. Mike would have been an excellent addition to our coaching staff. We really missed out on a great coach and a great person.

I agree this could be a pretty darn good DL if we can get everyone healthy. We'll have to evaluate the line come fall though once it's time to go. Part of me wants Matakis to come back this year and part of me doesn't want him hurting his knee more too. We will need him in the coming next few years. Matakis/Hoffenbacker/Saucedo/Kolone/Papich will be a force/tandem for the next few years.

It just keeps getting better and better each day  Almost makes me want to move back to the Valley and get out of the Flathead  I know this is off topic, but where's the salmon fly hatch on the Madison now?

Hasnt started yet... too cold to get those big buggers moving.

I fished the Maddy between Hebgen and Quake last weekend and it was simply awesome! Rainbows are spanning, so be careful of their beds. That is one of my favorite stretches of water in the entire state (other than the float from Maiden Rock to Melrose).

Far as I know it hasn't started yet- needs to warm up a bit.

Cat Pride,

How long does it take to make each of those two floats?

You cant float Hebgen to Quake. Maiden Rock to Melrose you can do in as little as 4 hours or as long as you'd like.

Dang! When I left the Flathead Monday it was 76 degrees. Thought they'd be down on the Chalk Cliffs at least...Oh well.

Jimmy Lake is a great get for you guys. He is one heck of a recruiter. He and Timm Rosenbach were the keys guys getting all the studs from last years senior players, this years senior and junior players. When they needed a big time player one or the other were the ones to close the deal. If any of you guys meet him you'll find out that he is one personable guy and a real players coach...

Thanks for the info. Coach K knows him and wouldn't have brought him on board unless he knew he's a good fit. We'll make him feel welcome in Bozeman.

This was posted on the Big Sky site and I thought it was pretty cool, myself: GOEWU 6/2/2005 7:48:04 PM I wonder why ex EWU, ex U of WA coach, Jimmy Lake, is now an ex ISU coach after being at ISU for Spring Ball? He has been hired by MSU and will be there shortly. Any of you ISU boys hear what happened? He does know Kramer pretty well and it might even be a $ thing...

It was an MCL sprain (i believe), and should be healed by the time practice starts.
