Ok it is slow but I have my own little write in football poll of two questions:
1) Who do you feel is/was the most underated MSU football over the last 20 years.
2) Who do you feel is/was the most overrated MSU football over the last 20 years.

Underrated: Ryan Johnson - Bad Teams/Great Numbers/Good Kid
Overrated: Jimmy Beal - Touted as the next best thing/More bad memories than I care to remember
MQ - When you talk about Corey Smith are you limiting his overrated ranking to the WR role only. He was one hell of a return man? Just curious.

Gotta agree on Tesch being tough and gritty. We hung out a bit at MSU, and I saw him in one or two fights, he was tough on and off the field. Quick as a cat too. On the field he was somewhat deceptively fast, and very hard to bring down.
Overrated 75% of all transfers.

Over rated: Corey Smith as a reciever, and Chip Hobbs - Jimmy Beal even though Kramer was the only one I ever heard say anything positve about him.
Under rated: JC Murray, Kevin Lundstrom, John Winego (even though he was an all-american) and Earl Hanson (at least thats what my pops says)

Yeah, I used to work with him and he is very quick/feisty and a tough kid. Very good wrestler too. Very deceptive out there at WR.

Yes, I am talking about his WR time. He was a very good return man his senior year, and that made everyone think that he was a very good WR. I thought that he was not that impressive his junior year as a return man (Cory returned kicks when Junior was injured).
I would have to disagree with you on R.J. being underrated. I thought people's perspective on him were about right. He was not great, but he was better then average. He had a good line blocking for him.
Gary, I would have to say the hype around Dunn was unlike any hype before and after him. I think that was a learning experience for Kramer. He talked Dunn up so much, that he was destined for failure. Of course Dunn coming in 30lbs overweight didn't help. Dunn was the biggest flop I have ever heard MSU of having.

I was wondering about that myself

Hobbs had awesome size and incredible body control going up and catching the ball. Those 2 awesome catches he had in that Wyoming game (they almost came back and won at the end) were SPECTACULAR.

Well I have said it more then once, but Farhaad wasn't as bad as people think he was. That was the 2000 season when just about every upperclassman quit. Farhaad's o-line consisted of 4 o-linemen that never played in any games in 1999. Farhaad was set up to fail.
I really think that Blake Wolf was almost overrated. He was an average to poor blocker, and had average hands.
Compson had a great arm, but had little mobility. I always thought that he was a good QB for the Cats. He didn't beat you with his feet, but he would beat you with his arm. I would agree that he was underrated.

I don't agree with Blake Wolf being almost under achieving. He played tough while hurt last year. Made a lot of improvement. Remember him playing RT the year before last at Weber State. For never playing there, did a very good job playing out of position (because guys were hurt and also left behind in Bozeman because of a fight). He made some tough catches last year. So I wouldn't call him overrated. Just a tough player that put it all on the line for the team. Any recognition he got beyond his abilities is not his problem. He came to play.
