No matter who you are that's great to hear.
This means at least 11,000 per home game excluding walk-ups. I'd say all games will be sold out (13,500?). It'd be nice to see MSU with an addition that puts the total capacity close to 20,000 and be able to fill it up. Equal attendance is the only thing missing from the Cat-Griz rivalry. I think UM is planning to expand by another 5,000 in the not too distant future, so it'd be nice to see MSU over 20K before UM hits 30K.

I was recently called to do an interview with a girl who writes for the Gallatin Gold magazine. She wanted me to talk about some of the great things about MSU football games/tailgating/experience etc. It will be coming out in next months issue so it looks like they are doing a story on MSU football in that edition. One thing she noted that I was really curious on was that this magazine has about a 15,000 subscription list and she said most make over 100,000 a year etc. in their polling cards they sent out. What this means to me is a lot of these people are probably transplant/new people to the Gallatin valley and could become a HUGE resource for MSU drawing crowd wise. I told the lady to really emphasize in her article that MSU and their fans would love to have anyone that is new to the area come to MSU and take in some football/basketball (you name it) as they would totally enjoy it.
Anyway, it really showed me some of the new type of population (for good or bad) that is in the Gallatin valley and that MSU really needs to market/get these people to some games. If we could just get half of these people to go to a game I'm sure all of them would come back for some more. So I really think MSU's attendance figures are only going to increase each year from here on out with Bozeman's population explosion that is happening. Having a great football program headed by great coaches and players doesn't hurt either. I think Kramer is really making a name for himself at MSU not only on the field, but off the field as well.
What do cat fans think was the hold up on getting these fans to come to games?
Winning. As many a Griz fan has pointed out, MSU is barely over .500, but just the relative difference in winning has made a dramatic difference in fan turnout.
If my memory serves me, UM's attendance wasn't much higher the first five years under Read. He started in '86 and kind of fluctuated at or near the top (similar to MSU) then rally took off when Dickenson came in 1993. MSU is following a similar pattern since 2000 -- Kramer's first season.
Please don't take this as a knock, I think UM fans are some of the best in the nation.

I think its a combination of winning, new fans to the area, generating excitement to go to the games, stuff like that. It's a whole host of things. Tailgating adds a lot of fun to the game and makes it more of a day event etc. Football games have to become an EVENT (like memorial day parades etc.) that fans/families get used to on a year by year basis. Once it becomes an annual EVENT that people love to come to then the fan base will stabalize (WIN OR LOSE). That is why marketing and game day atmospher improvements are so important.JahGriz wrote:Hey, who opened the bandwagon doors? But smack aside, it is about time, is there anything better to do on a satruday that watch a football game. I'm still wonder what the hold up was. Every team will have bandwagon fans once they start winning. There are just those type of people that get interested (good or bad) when the teams are winning versus losing etc. However I think one of the main things people are coming in droves to the games lately is just watching the Red Headed Houdini work his magic. Win or lose this kid is fun to watch!
