Arie Grey as a GRIZ!!!

Can anyone tell me why Grey chose the Cats over the Griz? I've always been curious about this. I promise I'm not trying to offend you Cat fans but why would a kid with such great speed and over-all talent not come to the Griz and enjoy our BIG TIME passing offense we were enjoying during those years? I've often wondered what his career would have been like as a Griz and if he would have had more exposure to the NFL scouts by posting bigger numbers and playoff runs.

Arie is a great person and was a great teammate. However if Arie was a griz in his collegiate days instead of a Bobcat, he would have ended up exactly the same. Playing for UM doesn't make you faster, taller or stronger. He'd still have been a 6' 200lb kid with good hands and very good speed. He would not have developed world-class speed which he would have needed for any NFL looks.

That being said, he was/is quicker than Jimmy Farris, and look what happened there.

NFL or not, attending MSU makes you a better person, more successful, better looking, happier and healthier. So, I think he chose wisely.

If I remember right Grey was an Engineering major. For years we had trouble recruiting against the Griz and the only time we would win those battles was if the student athelete wanted to major in Engineering or if their parents were Bobcats (and that did not always work).

Things have evened out now and each team wins about half the recruiting battles for in-state kids.

I know playing for the Griz does not make you any faster, taller, or stronger.
I said I did not want to offend anyone and I mean that. With the QB's we had and the offensive system we had then his stats may have been a little better I would think. I'm sure Mr. Grey has no regrets and I'm not saying he should. It's just hypothetical. I'm not sure about the last part of your statement but it’s your opinion so who am I to say...........

The Montana Standard places his height at 5'9" tall not 6' according to this news story. http://www.montanastandard.com/articles ... jajaeg.txt

Arie was an education major, and is currently teaching and coaching at Flathead HS. I got to know him fairly well in college, and he is a great guy, and 100% blue and gold.

I do not know too many people who dislike the jizz more than Arie- besides myself of course. If you ask Arie today, he will tell you that he absolutely loves Cliff Hysell. Savage, what a dumb question- you knew the response- come on man!

Arie is a great guy and was a great athlete. His folks own(ed) a bar in Deer Lodge. We stopped once coming back from Mizzou & his younger sister was bartending- real knockout. :D

Why are you being hostile? I like Grey and wish we could have landed him. I don't know of a bigger compliment that could be paid to a rival. The question was why did he choose MSU? Why is that a dumb question?
How many times can I say that I don't want to offend or be personal. I started the thread to pay the guy a compliment and ask the simple question of why and some of you are taking it personal.

Savage, don't be so defensive. I am pretty sure the last part was just a little dig/joke and since both suckit and wbtfg both commented on Arie being 100% Blue and Gold and doesn't care for the Griz I would say they were answering your simple question. Lighten up and laugh a bit, not everyone is out to get you.

I suppose the first question to ask is was he recruited by the Griz? I suppose it could be as simple as going to the school that recruited him instead of the one that didn't...

It's a good question and I have no idea why other than my understanding is he comes from a Cat family. I believe his sister if married to a former Cat.

Savage would you agree or disagree that the Cats getting Cordera started getting the in-state recruiting pendulum swinging back to where its a little more centered. I think you guys still have the advantage but nothing like it used to be, and I think Cordera was a big reason why.

Okay, you asked a reasonable question and I made a joke out of it. Sorry. I think most of the responses are correct and a difference in philosophy would be our main differences.

I would agree with that. I think things will balance out even more. Griz confidence is eroding no matter what the Egriz crowd says. Your average fan is not confident. We used to know that we would beat the Cats now it’s a hope. The decay will get worse with Hauck. The staff at the Griz is a display of nepotism at its finest. I was privy to a recruiting letter that misspelled the word stadium and the print was slanted on the paper. The parent thought it was unprofessional. I know we have an English dept on campus somewhere or at least spell check. Our stadium and facilities help with recruiting but if you guys can pull together a renovation and the Griz have a down year or two and the Cats come back strong you could overcome us with the in-state kids.

Speaking of that but not saying any names, I have it from a reliable source that Krysco send a recruiting letter for someone in an envelope adressed to someone else.

This may happen often, but I've never heard of it, and this is a pretty big recruit.
