Roster on MSU Athletics Page
This is minor, but what does it say about our Marketing people. The football season is a day away; there is more momemtum for football than there has been for years, and still our football roster on the Athletics home page is incomplete with photos and player bios. C'mon!

The rosters used to be pretty good with a paragraph or two about every player. Now it's a sentence or two...quite a few players don't have anything written about them. PLUS none of the new guys have pictures posted.
It's amazing when you look at the difference between our player profiles and UMs profiles.

Wow....This one makes me mad.
Let's compare 2 time first team all-conference linebacker and team captain Mac Mollohan's profile with 1 time frist team all-conference lineback and team captain Shane MacIntyre (you all really need to see Shane's picture)....Both Montana boys.

Career Stats
Shane MacIntyre Action Pics
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quoting Coach Bobby Hauck: “Shane brings a lot to the football team, not only with his playing ability, but also with his leadership skills and his desire to win. His move to the “mike” linebacker spot will increase our speed on the field at linebacker, and his production will also increase.”
Montana: Shane begins his senior season with 21 career tackles for losses which ranks him among the top 10 in Griz history, and he has 129 career tackles. He will move from outside (“sam”) to inside linebacker (“mike”) in fall camp. He will be starting for the second season in a row. He missed 2005 spring drills because he was recovering from off-season surgery.
He was named to the 2005 Lott Trophy Watch List, which includes the top 42 defensive players in the nation. He was the only Division I-AA player selected to that list. The trophy, named after Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, goes to the college defensive player who has the biggest impact on and off the field. Georgia’s David Pollack won the inaugural award last year.
MacIntyre has been selected to the Big Sky Conference’s all-academic team the past three seasons and maintains a 3.32 GPA.
2004: “Mac” was Montana’s leader on defense, starting all 15 games and garnering a team-high 94 tackles, and he also had a team-best 46 unassisted stops. He had the second most tackles for losses on the team with 14.
He was ranked 10th in the conference with 0.93 tackles per game and 19th (tie) in average tackles per game (6.2 a contest).
He was named to the Big Sky’s first team in 2004 and was a finalist for the league’s defensive player of the year award. He was selected the league’s “Player of the Week” on defense on October 18, 2004, when he had 10 tackles (including four for losses) at Eastern Washington and blocked a game-tying field goal attempt by the Eagles with 18 seconds left to play.
2003: Shane saw a lot of action as a sophomore and was one of the Grizzlies’ leading tacklers with 23 stops. He was third in tackles for losses with five.
2002: He played in 10 games and had 12 tackles.
2001: He was a redshirt at Montana.
High School: earned eight letters at Helena Capital High School - three each in football and track and two in basketball ... first team all-state and all-conference as a senior ... a member of Capital’s “AA” state championship football teams his junior and senior seasons, going a perfect 12-0 each of those years ... participated in Montana’s East-West Shrine and Montana-Dakota All-Star games ... honorable mention all-state and second team all-conference in football as a junior ... team captain in football and basketball ... high school football coach was Mark Samson.
Personal: A biology/pre-med major. Birth date: August 5, 1982. Parents: Don and Kris MacIntyre of Helena.
Career Highs: 10 tackles at Eastern Washington and vs. Northern Arizona, 2004; 4 tackles for losses at EWU, 2004; 2 sacks at Sacramento State, 2003.

Before you go and bitch about what a lousy job the media guy(s) are doing. Could you think about another aproach, that being, how about "could you (Mr. Fields) dedicate a little more resources to the Media departments". Personally I am going to take a stand to let you know that Lamberty, Shultz, and all are working their butts off right now. tring to keep up with all things athletics. Remember classes have just started, all sports are under going updates as roster changes and media guides need to be produced. From June to the end of August it is all football. Starting in September of so two guy's are flooded with every thing else. Not to mention some of these guy's have other responciblities out side of just media issues.
Sorry guy's every year at this time the bitching start about this same matter and it irritates me when the sh*t comes down on people who are working their butts off, and do care about Bobcat sports.
So keep it positive, what can WE do to help get the information updated and out!
BTW If you are pissed off about MSU media coverage of football try being a basketball fan!

Speaking of "getting it done", a griz fan directed me to a site that has records for all the IAA teams, coaches, conferences, etc.
I was shocked when I logged on there and Montana State HAS NO DATA. It's a great site; it breaks down each team in 5 year increments, lists the head coach for that season, and complete schedules. I was hoping to use if for a little more in-depth research but again, we're not there.

This roster is not mediocre it is pi$$ poor. There isn't a single picture of anyone who got here this summer. I know they've taken them, they're in the media guide.mslacat wrote:Before you go and bitch about what a lousy job the media guy(s) are doing. Four of our offensive starters (Miller, Guinn, Domenick, DeCock) don't have anything written in their profiles, and Murray's says "A transfer from Washington State... had a solid spring." That's not even a complete sentence. It looks like something someone would post on a message board.
Six of our defensive starters (Papich, Lou, Kolone, King, Lowe, Mac...our team captain) don't have anything written in their profiles.
There is no way I can defend our roster. It is probably one of the worst rosters that any D-I college team in the nation puts out.
PATHETIC!

Sounds like UM just takes their media guide and applies it to their website. Why cant MSU do this? The MSU media guide has all that personal stuff on our own players. Why not transfer this stuff to the website as well?
Its not just there though people. I think Lamberty just a great job as SID, he's a great guy, and does a fantastic job. He is not our marketing director though. One of two things needs to happen (IMO).
1. Fields needs to allocate more cash to the marketing department and let them have more freedom to be creative, or...
2. If Peter already does this, then fire the marketing staff and get some imaginative go-getters in there to do the job to the expectations of the MSU fan base.
Prime examples of our poor marketing department: all the bitches about gameday atmosphere can be alleviated by an imaginative marketing group that has the freedom to be creative. Also, how easy is it to find MSU gear in this state (not counting going to the bookstore or Universal Athletics). Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this is a direct reflection of poor marketing to not have more and better gear available to purchase.

Again I just visited the Griz athletic page. They have 5 full time employees in the Sports information dept., MSU has 2. And Lamberty is also the Assistant Athletice Director, so that makes 1 1/2 possitions plus any students who help out. My point is that Lamerty and Shultz can only do so much so why pile on. If you want better services get them help.

Mslacat... I agree with the guys working their behinds off and that they are doing their best. But our marketing sucks! And maybe it is because we are understaffing and not putting $$ into marketing. I am not just talking about the website but MSU is far behind statewide in marketing the Bobcats on TV, advertisements, clothing in the stores, etc. MSU needs to get after it and let the region know about the Bobcats in all athletics. This includes the small stuff like sending data to different websites.

I agree. My daughter went to both the UM and MSU volleyball camps. At UM there were tables full of gear, pants shirts, sweats, balls etc loaded with Griz emblems. At MSU nothing. She was told to try the bookstore which had no volleyball items at all. We have a dominant volleyball program in the state and cannot even market that. Now we are seeing the same thing with our football program. 3 rows of grizzly gear one of bobcat.

I agree with you, but its not that hard to put the media guide on the net. Why go half-assed? If you arent going to put forth a quality players roster and bio page, why do it at all? Why not just put players sizes, position, #s and years on there instead of saying, "Transfer from WSU... had good spring"mslacat wrote:Again I just visited the Griz athletic page. Here are two schools completely out of our league in terms of support, money, facilities, resources, etc. But at least these two schools have people with ambition to get-er-done! These two schools absolutely embarrass MSU when it comes to their websites. One school is the perennial bottom feeder of the Big Sky, the other is from the Frontier Conference -- gasp

Notice the nice link to the media guide.
http://www.carroll.edu/athletics/football/players.php
Notice the great player photos and profiles. Maybe not as indepth as some would like, but its 10x MSU's effort.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Maybe MSU should go to some engineering school or computer science school and find someone to put this stuff together for them.... wait a minute....

I'm not trying to pile on but teton reminded me of something.
Both of my daughters have fallen in love with the Volleyball team/program; my 12 year old's goal is to wear the Blue & Gold someday. Last year, we attended 5 or 6 games and they both wanted to get some MSU volleyball "gear". We looked all over the VBall arena, nothing; book store, nothing; Universal Athletics, nothing.
Thank goodness for the Cats tradition of handing out Bobcat volleyballs to the crowd before the game; at least they both got 1 of those. Maybe it's simply economics; maybe they don't anticipate enough demand to justify producing some of this but given the amount of gear in the book store and at football games, I would think they could peddle some VBall stuff.
Heck, they get a couple thousand fans for games; I'm pretty sure there's some $$ waiting to be spent right there!

hmmmmm, so what I hear people saying is that the marketing dept. works their asses off (which I agree with), but the dept. is understaffed (which I also agree with). I wonder if there would be anyone the least bit interested in perhaps sitting at a PC (personal computer) that is connected to that one technology where you can link to other PCs (I think they call it a "network"
) and also link to that really big "thing" they call the "world wide web," and then put stuff from one PC in the "network" into that web-thing.
I would think that a student intern from, say, COMPUTER SCIENCE, might give such an opportunity a try.
I heard that THE MSU had a program that involves that stuff you see on tv and in moving pictures. I think I heard it called, FILM AND TV, although I don't exactly know how thick the "film" is. I think some people that want to work in that career have to do stuff like research a story they think might be cool to watch on the tv or at the moving picture place, and then produce the story so it looks cool and is interesting for others to watch and read about. I wonder if a person in FILM AND TV would like to do stories and stuff about other people, like themselves, who go to college and study, but do sports and stuff instead, and then communicate that story to people for their viewing or reading pleasure?
I wonder if the person studying tv and moving pictures could "talk" to the person, through the "network," who puts stuff from one PC into the web-thing, also through the "network." If the tv person could do that, then the cool story about kids doing sports would be on the web-thing.
I would think that a student intern from, say, COMPUTER SCIENCE, might give such an opportunity a try.
Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

No I can't!!!!!!!! The Football Media Guide has more mistakes in it than a first grade english paper. They have us playing at Montana and At ISU this year to name two glaring ones. I caught a number of errors last year and sent them to the marketing group. Guess what? Same errors this year. And they have all summer to work on this. That is there SLOW time. NO EXCUSE!!!!!!!!!mslacat wrote:Before you go and bitch about what a lousy job the media guy(s) are doing. Apparently we are playing @ NAU and @ UM but for some reason NAU and UM have both renamed their stadium Bobcat Stadium.
Either this is a misprint (how could that be, the schedule has been known for about 6 months, and printed maybe 1,000,000 times and our marketing department couldnt be this inept) or since we beat NAU so bad last year in Flagstaff that they renamed the stadium after us. UM on the other hand I have no idea.
