You have to be kidding! Bobby Hauck one of the next to step up to the big time? He has been living off Glenn’s team for two years and still has remnants of Glenn’s team helping him this year. Bobby Hauck does not begin to resemble a big time coach. He is quickly bringing the Grizzlies to mediocrity. They will be lucky to win 5 games this year, that is, if they have 5 home games. I am a loyal Bobcat supporter first and a Grizzly supporter second and I certainly don’t want to see the success of the Grizzlies going south as it will under Hauck. As the Bobcat football program continues to move toward an elite program I would hope the two Montana Universities dominate the Big Sky Conference and the Division 1-AA. Montana has had two of the finest coaches in college football in Don Read and Joe Glenn and they have developed the terrific football program at the U of M. Bobby Hauck has lived off their success and now they will begin their sad decline under him. The fortunate thing for the U of M is they have the finest football facility in the nation for Division 1-AA that will always be a recruiting attraction and advantage for the U of M. Given that they just need to find a coach who has some media tact and has integrity and they will move back toward success. Bobby Hauck certainly by all standards is NOT that coach!

Typical Kusek article. I give Glenn props but Bobby Hauck no way. Kusek should just go back to writing about why the Cats are afraid to schedule MSU-B year after year. That is about half his articles every year pretty much.

At least in this article there waqs no mention at all about MSU. That is a good thing, because whenever Kusek does write anything about the Cats (not very often), it is a negative article. He loves to write about MSU only when something bad happens.

The sad part for us Cat fans is that IF the Griz DON'T implode this season, Bobby may very well get hired by a I-A program. As much as we'd like to see him stay at dUMb, some idiot AD with a horrible football program will simply look at Bobby's W/L record and offer him a job.
Anyone remember Mick Dennehy? Remember how he was slowly eroding the Griz dynasty but still had a decent winning %, which led to his hiring at USU? How'd that turn out?
Hmmmm, let's see; USU goes 15-19 in the 3 seasons prior to Dennehy's hiring, then he takes them to an astounding 19-37 mark over the next 5 years.
If Bobby ever does get that I-A call, I'm pretty confident his #'s will be a lot closer to Mick Dennehy's than Joe Glenn's. Can you imagine Bobby trying to handle the media aspects alone of a bigger/higher-profile program?

Mister Personality he ain't and moving up is only going to make that more apparent.
The scary part for us is that the Grizzlies coaching "cycle" has them due for a good coach to succeed Bobby: Donovan (bad), Read (good), Dennehy (bad), Glenn (good), Hauck (bad), .....?

and somehow they all seem to make the playoffs year after year after year. You guys should try a home playoff game there fun ask your grandpa about them he should know.

I hope it isn't Mike Van Diest.

jag,
Are you TRULY ignorant enough to think that there are coaches out there SO INEPT that they could flush the Griz tradition down the toilet in just a year or 2? Do you really think so little of the folks that hire your coaches that they'd make such a mistake as to hire someone capable of that?
Someone else posted this on another thread, but the Griz tradition has been building for over a decade; it will take more than 1 or 2 years to do significant damage to the momentum you had when Bobby came to town. With your stadium, your record, and your "profile" in the state, even Earl Solomonson could win 8 or 9 games a year in Missoula for a few seasons; eventually, however, a poor coach/recruiter is going to be shown for what he is, even in Missoula. Right now, there are a lot a Bobcats (and even a # of griz fans) who believe Bobby is nowhere near as good as his W/L record, and we're hopeful that he'll be left there long enough to bring the Griz down a few more notches. If we're wrong? I guess we'll have to eat some crow. Tell me this, jag; if Bobby moves up, which coaches performance do you think he'll come closer to: Glenn's or Dennehy's?
And by the way, your coaches don't get you home playoff games; you fans should take credit for that!

My thoughts
1: I like BH and what he has done
2: Dennehy had some good players on line for Cowboy Joe
3: Cowboy Joe was a great game coach but his last class wasn't that good
4: If Pappa Bear wouldn't have been forced into using DD (DD played so well against SDSU and Oregon he had to leave him in) this thing we know as Griz football would never have happend. (I call it the luck factor see Johnson with the Cowboys in the NFL getting Smith, Aikman and Irvin. A good coach won't screw up a good thing but a good coach won't always turn things around see Johnson in Miami.)
My thoughts on this year after 4 game. The Griz will ride that D a long long ways and suprise you E. (don't worry I'll let you know)
My thoughts on the cats after 5 games. OSU sucks. Cat fans are talking big for a team that could very easily go 6-5 not make the playoffs and go 3-8 next year.

Bobby Hauck's 1-A past with NeuWeasel will hurt him. Colorado had major problems after that staff left CU in shambles, and UW went from a national power to a national laughingstock in the wake of the NeuWeasel era.
Bobby will have some major explaining to do with any decent 1-A program. The best I see him moving to is a Utah State or an Idaho. No major conference program would gamble on the guy in light of his track record. Actually, considering the Griz IMO will at best make a 1st round play-off exit, it seems Kusek was writing more to get into Hauck's good favor than anything else.
A bunk article, but knowing Kusek's work from my days in Billings, it is really no surprise.

I saw a news cast last night where the reporter asked BH if Bergquist would be the QB this weekend. It looked as though BH was ready to blow a gasket. He said "the qb will be Bergquist...or Jason Washington...(pause) or Stapp or Hedrick for that matter" It looked like he didn't want to answer the question and if they asked one more time he was going to rip someone's head off. It really looked like he was stressed out! If he loses to ISU I'm afraid we are going to see the a meltdown by Bobby. He hasn't had the luxury like Kramer of "laughing off a loss"... a loss in Grizville is no laughing matter....heads roll!

jag,
This is an honest question: what has Hauck done for the Griz program?
1) He hasn't added confidence to the boosters. There's more griping about him then there is praise
2) His planning for the departure of Ochs has left a huge gap in the offense: so, his recruiting and planning seems inept.
3) Does this man get you excited about Griz football? As a supporter and booster for the 'Cats, I say this is important for the overall program.

The Griz D gave up almost 500 yards to a Weber State offense that was shut out by NDSU. The Griz also easily could have given up 60 points to an Oregon team that is ranked 70th in rushing in 1-A.
Prepare for some losses in the next couple of months. I'll be sitting back enjoying the Griz fans' meltdown. I'll enjoy Bobby's meltdown even more.

And griz fans are talking big for a team that could very easily BE 1-3, just gave up 500 yards to a mediocre team IN WaGriz, have the worst QB's in 15 years, and could easily lose their next 4 games, miss the playoffs and go 3-8 next year...

The demise of the griz program has been fortold for about 15 years now. Eventually, the griz won't make the playoffs or tie/win the conference. I would not want to be the HC at that time...no matter who that is/would be. If the griz have that happen this year, most of the blame will laid at BH's feet.
Just wondering, though...why not give more credit to the elevation of the other Big Sky teams? I think a .500 griz season record would have WAY more to do with that than with BH...but, that's just me.

E but they won't and you know they won't and it kills you.
I also think the BSC isn't any good this year. OVERRATED. from #4 to #25 and all the #s in the middle. (Playoffs should clear that one up)

The griz could very easily be be 1-3 but it would not be "easy" for the Cats to be 1-3. We would have to see a hugely dramatic event occur to stop us

If you'd bother to READ jag's post, jersey, you'd see I was mocking his comment.
THAT's my point.
We've won 2 close games versus top 25 teams. You've won 2 close games against unranked teams in what is supposed to be the most hostile environment in college football history.
If you were capable of unbiased analysis, jersey, you'd have to admit that the Cats record & team at this point of the season were superior to the Griz, so jag's claims of superiority are pretty baseless.
