"Hinkelman: Getting to know you, me"
http://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/ar ... 02hink.txt
Not a big fan of Hinkelman so far.

Why do the
Chronicle writers seemingly go out of their way to berate and put down all Bobcat fans? I am very pleased to see what Jeff et al have done to improve the coverage of the Bobcats (and the sports page in general) drastically in the last year, but come on! That doesn't give you a free pass to insult a large majority of your target audience. It doesn't bother me that these guys have worked in other places, or covered the griz, or don't always pick the Cats to win. That is fine, and that is what I would expect out of good journalists. What I don't like is when they take pot shots at Bobcat fans, and those of us on Bobcat Nation.
BTW, welcome to Bozeman, Andrew. Hope things improve after what I would consider a rocky start...

GO CATS GO!!!

This guy could be a disaster! A griz fan who thinks he is CUTE reporting for the Chronicle. We were making progress.

Having only read the attached story, I see nothing that isnt factual. What pot shots has he taken at the fans of bobcatnation?
His quote, "I also covered the Bobcats, and I was accused by both Bobcat and Griz fans in the Flathead Valley of being biased, a pretty good indication of overall neutrality." rings true.
The GRIZ, a quarter century of total football dominance over the cats.

Bozo I think if a we Flipped a quarter and it landed on its side in a crack of the sidewalk you'd say heads and I'd say tails and argue about it. I thought it was a good story.

I read some of his past work when he was living up in the Flathead. I will vouch for his neutrality, as I always thought it was remarkable coming from the "heart of Griz country".
His introductory article does seem a bit preemptive, though. Perhaps Jeff warned him of our ill disposition.
It's funny that the Chronicle appears to be Hauck's biggest backer at this point, what with Jeff's earlier Boobie article and this new addition. I wonder what the reaction would be if the Missoulian ran a few articles talking-up Krames.
Really, Bozeman Daily, you can write all the articles you want begging us to like Boobie... and you can try and try to convince us that he's not an evil baby-puncher... but it'll never happen.

I'm sick of chronicle writers talking about how good of a guy Hauck is. All he had to do is tell the truth and write about how Hauck is a classless moron, not to mention ruining a great program, and he would have recieved a much more receptive welcome from the bobcat fans in bozeman.

I'm with you on this one Bozone. I took the main focus to be trying to tell us how Baby is a nice and good man - AGAIN. Like Gavin said, it isn't going to happen.

Hint to the Chronicle: When interviewing potential candidates for the Bozeman sports writer position you might want to ask the person if they are a Griz fan. I mean a lot of us readers read the chronicle to gain more insight into Bozeman and it's sports. To have your new sportswriter spew garbage like that in his first post was like he was taunting every reader who reads it. I can just see him with a cute grin writing that and taunting the Cat faithful. Looks like another great hire for you! Nice work on the editor's part too. Just the kind of stuff Bobcat readers love to read (especially on a new sports writers article).

How old is Hinkelman? 12 or 13? The fact that he put the Beavers-Trojan thing in there shows he has the maturity of a teenage boy.
I understand that Hinkelman was trying to be sarcastic and get a rise out of us(which he did), but there aren't very many sports writers that can pull off sacasim and do it well. In fact, there is only one; Rick Reilly. Andrew can only dream of getting to that level, so he better learn to write something interesting that people in Bozeman care to read.
Overall, I have to agree that taking shots at the Bobcats and Bozeman isn't the best way to get more readers. Maybe when Andrew is 14 or 15 he will learn to write something other than a lame attempt at humor.(Look Andrew I can take shots too!)

Actually - Cummings usually has good things to say about Krames and the Cats ---- and he does take a lot of crap for it, too.

I can't believe he likes Joe Buck.
He'll fit in nicely with the rest of the Chronicle crowd. Write like a high schooler and your in.

I have to admit, I think he came on a little strong with his preemptive shots. The word "sad" probably isn't a great introductory one. He probably did need to do something proactive to state that he covered the Griz in the past before the first time he got accused of not being a big enough homer, and someone dug up the golden nugget of info pointing out that he was (gasp) a former Griz beat reporter, and thus pure evil. But to then take shots at the group of Bobcat fans who enjoy hating Hauck might have been a bit much.
My biggest concern, though, is that the Chronicle is going to have a guy trying to opine on national sports stuff ... which is not something I want to read. I know just as much about national sports stuff as a guy sitting in Bozeman -- that's not why I read the Chronicle. I'd much prefer that the guys in Bozeman spend their time reporting on stuff in Bozeman and the surrounding area, and leave the national sports scene to the guys at the major papers (who don't cover Montana sports at all).

Same lame "top ten" recycled. Always complaining about the BCS and bragging about our "playoffs." See homefield advantage and buying homefield as a true measure of one teams superiority over another and only giving a team a week to get from one end of the country to another and prepare as fair

Hell, look how we all complain about the Gateway and A-10 getting four teams in the playoffs

It appears that "Hink" accomplished his mission. More Cat fans than ever will now read his articles, just so they can get their blood to boil.
Good strategy.
I thought the article was average. Not because I'm a Cat, but because the so-called Top 10, pretty much can be taken off the pages of internet message boards - like this one. Not original, kinda vanilla. I get all the national stuff I need from ESPN.
"Hink" could make the Top 10 more original by mining for obscure issues within the Big Sky Conference. Now THAT would be original - a probably could be really interesting .
[Edit] sorry - didn't have BACs and CG's opinions before I posted - talk about recycled opinions!
