I don't think either team can survive (not as well, not near as fun) without the other. As much as they hate each other (see Why do Cats talk smack...) they need each other and I can't even imagine life without the Cat/Griz game. It is the single best, most talked about, polarizing and biggest event in Montana every year. By far.
Next time you start talking moves to IA, don't do it w/o including both teams in the move.
What if MSU or UM were the only university in the state? We'd probably have a team like Wyoming. I don't envy Wyoming or any team that doesn't have a big time rival.
The Cat-Griz is as heated as any in the nation. Nothing can top it. Sheer numbers don't mean a thing, the attitude of the fans says it all. I think the Cat-Griz fans do it right, including some of the distasteful stuff. As long as no gets hurt. Fighting will happen, but it shouldn't be condoned for any reason. The game would be tainted forever if a fan were to be injured in a fight and both sides would be to blame.
People who bring kids to the game do so at their own risk. Cat-Griz isn't a starter kit. Take to a h.s. game and work them in slowly.

iaafan, I totally agree 100%. It just wouldn't be as fun if the Griz didn't care as much as the Cats and visa-versa. I also agree that it is NO place for children under the age of 16 to be in attendance. The truth is that it brings out our primal rage and some pretty vulgar things are said on both sides of the fence. You all know the chants. Adults are mature enough to realize that it is tradition and that what can be misconstrued as true hate is not actually true hate. Well, I guess some adults haven't figured that out either, but it sure is funny to watch them at least for entertainment value. For me, its a chance to yell and scream until I've lost my voice and that is my part (if a fan has a part) in the game to leave it all on the field supporting my team. I'm a huge football fan and I miss the old glory days of HS ball. The last time I was in a game was the Class B all-star game, my senior year. I guess cheering for the Bobcats is my chance to get that old feeling going again and you know what I'm talking about. The blood boiling, raging, examining each play, sweating, freezing, yelling and screaming out whatever comes to mind. It sort of reminds you of a medevil battle field with testosterone in the air. Ar ar arrrrrrrrr. The Griz are as much a part of that as the Cats for without one, the other is somehow weaker. Man I love football and can't wait until the first kick-off!
