We need a punter and a kickoff guy. I would say even Butte doesn't have any confidence in the field goal kicking. Do we have any prospects?

Am I missing something? Why do we need a punter?

Yeah we got Hall for another year....unless he goes into portal as a punter.

Wouldn’t that be difficult now that he’s transferred once already?
Could be in same situation as Lonyatta Alexander.

I hope Mr. Hall will stay a Bobcat. His booming touchbacks prevented a lot of bad stuff that can happen on kickoffs.

Hall is coming back next year. We do not need a punter. Also Hall already said on twitter that he will be here next year.

That's good news! Bringing in a kicker for PATS and FGs is a good idea, but a special teams coach who could work with Casey would also be a grand idea.

Sorry, I thought we only had him for this year. We are set for punts and kickoffs, but we still need help on field goals. You never know how much eligibility someone has, I saw someone posted about a QB transferring in his eighth year. Yea, I may be stupid, but do you really think it helps by you pointing it out, or maybe just correcting someone's understanding, as most people did.

He put out a tweet indicating that he’s coming back.

The main reason Hall ended up at Montana State University is because he’s a mechanical engineer major! It was a perfect fit!

That information came straight from coach V (cat chat on a Wednesday night)

A dedicated ST coach with experience coaching kickers (all phases) would be an excellent addition. The right coach could probably help Hall be even better, definitely help Casey, and probably help another FG/PAT kicker when we get one (which we probably should now).

I don’t think any team has a ST coach like that. That’s why all kickers go to kicking camps and specialists in the off-season. Same with QB’s. Even Bobby doesn’t mess with what the kickers do…I mean, they know the basics of course, but a ST coach isn’t completely redoing how somebody kicks. That isn’t their job.

Kyle Shanahan said in an interview recently that they don’t even work on QB mechanics in season. It’s all just about working on plays and figuring out tendencies.

Do not forget his booming high punts either. Hall averaged 46.1 yds/punt this yr (BSC stat's) and his last one basically ended the game for NDSU after being downed at their 1/2 yd line (made up for his very rare shank earlier). Very satisfied his gpa and leg will be back in 2024.

How many FCS programs have dedicated special teams coaches and more specifically kicking coaches.

Can't tell you how many FCS teams have dedicated special teams coaches but SDSU does and I'd imagine any that team that wants to excel at ST does. Same with kicking, but I don't think it takes a ton of specialized kicking training or experience to recognize that an XP kicker varies the length of his first step resulting in his plant foot being in the wrong place to keep from kicking too low and having kicks blocked. If nothing else, an ST coach can google it just like you can google House's offense tutorials.

You are bat ****** crazy if you think you can just Google how to kick and then go teach a kicker.
That's like trying to fix a Tiger Woods swing by googling how to hit the driver straight!
Kicking is so technical and any coach knows not to help a kicker unless they are a kicking coach.

So only a kicking coach can tell a kicker that the length of his first step varies and that leads to inconsistent results. I guess if that's what it takes , I reckon we should have hired the expertise of a kicking coach which would have saved our season. Gee, I wonder how Jan Stenerud ever managed to ever make a single XP for MSU as I doubt they brought in a specialist in kicking to teach him to kick. Or maybe they did. I was at the Cal Poly game and he punted something of a 70 yarder before my very eyes. Total flipping of the field. He’s got the job if he stays!

Athletes go through ups and downs no matter the position. An inconsistent jab step, rushing his tempo, poor angle of approach, foot position at contact, leg lock, follow through, etc. All have an effect. Not all kickers have the exact motion just as not every qb or pitcher or golfer has the same exact motion. All are unique and sometimes athletes in all positions get in a slump. I've seen both Kautzman and Hall placekick great at times and struggle at times.

Based on my experience, football coaches don't know ****** about the technical aspects of kicking or punting. I would guess both Kautzman and Hall have their own private kicking coaches. I would think they send video or meet up to work on things when things are off. Maybe not. Maybe it's 100% mental.
I that case, does MSU have a sports psychologist? I would say at this point that would be the best approach.
Especially after reading all the horrible things these "fans" have been saying about our players.
