Edit. Sorry, I didn’t see this was in a different thread.

How can he enter the transfer portal right now? Isn’t it closed to new entrants until spring ball?

He must be a graduate transfer, as they can enter the Portal at any time. The timeline would make sense as he came to MSU in 2020.

Interesting he would leave just as his brother is coming in.

He's buried on the depth chart, has spent four years at MSU getting his degree, and has two years of football eligibility remaining. Why not try something new?

Kids transferring for lack of playing time happens. But the COVID year has really added an element to the whole thing for kids decisions. Garrett has been in school for four years already but is still only a junior for football. Kade Cutler transferred to UM and will be a redshirt sophomore but he's already done three years of school as he grayshirted his first year which was 2020 so technically I bet he could play until he was 24-25. Ifanse got his degree, was at MSU for five years, technically played four seasons worth of football, and was still chastised for transferring.

Garrett will be a cool footnote in the Bobcat record books though. His runs at the end of the 2022 game against Cal Poly broke the record for rushing yardage in a single game. I hope he gets a starting job somewhere.

Me too. He's a patient runner but when he puts his foot in the ground its not friendly for the defender.

Forgot about that piece. Thanks!

Sorry to see him go. Enjoyed seeing him demolish tacklers. He will start somewhere. Got like about 2 plays this past year? Deserved more in my opinion. Glad he came to MSU and got a degree.

He played in 5 games and had 10 carries for 66 yards. Being immediately passed on the depth chart by a true freshman (Humphrey) was probably the writing on the wall. Garrett is a great player, just needs to find an opportunity where there aren't so many other RBs to compete with for touches.

This one totally makes sense. Good player who always performed well when he could get on the field. We just have so much depth at the position.

He could start or play a major role for tons of others teams at our level.

Hope we keep Colson, who looked very promising on HS tape.

Not surprising. Someone was bound to leave. That's a deep room.

I'd like to see the Cats use the dudes in the RB room a bit more. And yes, I get it, the RPO. Tommy makes the decision. I'd like to see the tweaked a bit.

I think we're all on the same page there. We have some dudes but they've been the 2nd or 3rd option for the last couple years. I assume next year will be different unless Vigen can find another Chambers-like QB.
