Former Cats NFL Chances?

Ifanse? Glessner? And what ever happened to Connor Wood, did he not make it onto an NFL roster? I haven't seen anything on Ifanse... wondering if he's not going to get a shot.

If ifanse had stayed here I bet he would have got a pretty good look. FA deal or maybe even a late round pick…. Not so much anymore.

Call it the “Dakota prukop” scenario.

Ifanse was probably too worn down to get a real look regardless of where he played his final season.

I've been very busy at work and haven't seen this anywhere else, sorry if it's already been posted.

Nice, Casey. So why couldn’t MSU develop him?

Well, hate to be controversial, but Choate wasn’t much for development of QB’s! Heck we had a NFL level LB running that Offense. Vigen has more QB development in his pinky than Choate ever had!

Not a chance. Older RB, he’d have even more carries on his body, lacked top end speed in his 40. Prukop has done well for a former Bobcat QB by sticking in the CFL.

Think yer missing my point. Just saying that had he stayed here he would have had a better shot or chance at the next level.

Same with prukop- being an all American/Walter Payton winner type player gives you a better chance vs going to Oregon and losing the starting job.

Last fall I talked to a friend of the family of Connor's. She said he was tired of football and didn't want to play pro-ball. I don't know what interest he got from the NFL but if there was any I guess he wasn't interested. Seems strange to me but I have no reason to doubt her.

Ifanse's pro aspirations ended with his 4.59 PRO DAY 40. Probably need to add about .05 on pro day times compared to combine times. Couple a slow 40 time with all the mileage and those guys are a dime a dozen. Had Ifanse stayed at MSU, stayed healthy, and had similar production, he still would have needed to run a 4.5 (or better) pro day time to get an UDFA deal.

The NFL has devalued the RB anyway, right? I mean the first RB taken in the draft was the 46th pick, the next one was in the third round. I don't mean that they've devalued the position, because they are still a huge part of the game. But they're fickle about the players themselves, and they damn sure don't pay them like they used to. Obviously if there's a Bijan Robinson in a draft they're going early, but that's not the norm. For the most part, the best RBs in the country are going in later rounds, leaving G-5 guys with high mileage looking for real jobs like the rest of us suckers.

Speaking of running backs, did anyone notice if the South Dakota State running back got drafted this year?

Yes, Isaiah Davis went to the Jets in the 5th round, 172nd overall and 15th RB taken.

Said this on Nuanez Now last week....production and accomplishments are small parts of the equation. Pro Day times, all-star game appearances weigh much more heavily than what you do in college, unfortunately.

Troy Andersen was going to be a Top 50 pick no matter what he ever did in college. The production is just icing on the cake. Ifanse, conversely, was never ever going to be an NFL running back. He is bow-legged and slow by NFL standards, can't operate in pass pro and doesn't catch the ball out of the backfield. Phenomenal college back. One of the best we've ever covered. Not league. Never was. Nothing he could've done would've made him league. It's just the sad truth.

Are there any bow-legged players in the NFL? I remember Benny Malone (Dolphins) and Walt Garrison (Cowboys) back in the 70s (sports most colorful era) being bow-legged. I’m sure there were others. I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone in the NFL with bow legs.

I remember Choate talking about that when we first signed him, saying that was exactly what you want. Phenomenal balance, extremely hard to bring down. Man he had some incredible runs throughout his career.

Guys like Ifanse are what makes college football so much more enjoyable than the NFL where everything seems to be so measured and sterile. Unfortunately, P4 college football has been heading in the same direction.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve watched an entire NFL game.

It's definitely a different game, and I enjoy the college game more. But I still enjoy the NFL. I know I've said this a bunch, but I'm hoping the P4 gets to the point where less and less people care about it and more people start caring about the lower levels of college football. I don't think G5 and upper levels of the FCS will ever be the most popular level of college football, but I'd love to see them start to gain a bigger market share in the CFB landscape. As the highest levels get more sterile and more expensive to attend, maybe the atmosphere at the games will deteriorate. As players get paid more and more, maybe they'll play with less passion. Then at that next level down, maybe those crowds will be more engaged, and maybe those players will play harder...then maybe casual fans will want to tune in more. Then maybe there's a chunk of money available to these programs for modest TV contracts. I do think these bigger programs will always have passionate fan bases because fans are loyal to their schools, so the P4 isn't going away, but hopefully the smaller programs with good players and good atmospheres start to attract fans that miss the old college football.
