Impressions of Utah Tech

Campus and stadium are super easy to get to-right between 2 exits off I-15. Streets are big and wide and on a grid. Easiest parking of any place we've been. Right on the street half a block from the stadium-free. They're not set up to capture parking revenue like other small stadiums like Portland State, EWU, or Northern Colorado. I noticed a big "D" lit up on a hill above town. Still holding on to Dixie?

Stadium gets a minus point for having a track around it-but this looks like a heck of a track and field venue. Good views from up in the bleachers though. Small crowd made it easy to navigate. Everything is clean and feels new. Terrible lights-for a team that has to play games at night to avoid the heat. You'd think they'd have better lights. Watching the bats chase bugs around the flood lights was entertaining.

As someone mentioned before, St. George feels brand new-kinda like if Cracker Barrell was a City. There's no gritty-ness for sure. It's also hot, but we are in a desert afterall. Nice drive getting here. Utah's freeways are outstanding.

One thing about Utah's culture really stands out. You'll feel it as soon as you hit your first gas station or fast-food restaurant. In this day and age, young people aren't having kids in a lot of the country. In Montana we're closing and consolidating schools left and right because there are no kids. Who can afford them? Well in Utah you notice lots of kids with stressed out parents trying to keep track of them. They're everywhere, under foot, running around-it's hilarious. Mini-vans pull up and it looks like a circus act when all the people climbing out. It used to be like that when I was growing up (my folks had 4), but it was eye opening how that has changed-except in Utah apparently.

I love road trips and away games...especially when the Bobcats win!

Feel free to come to my section and watch me manage three kids while trying to follow the game.
