The most unofficial Bobcat gameday thread - Portland State

A new Saturday, a new foe. The Cats roll into Hillsboro County parks and rec stadium with 8-0, or 1-0 on their minds.

Playing at PSU is always tough. A weird environment against an always weird team. The Cats will need to bring their own energy. Hopefully the 2000 ish Cats fans in attendance will give them the boost they need and help liven the place up a bit.

Even at 1-5, PSU could be a bit of a test for the defense. First game without Danny U against the super athletic Dante Chachere. What will the D do to slow him down? Can they slow him down? My guess is people will be moaning and groaning about the pass rush today, because I bet it's designed to keep Chachere from getting out of the pocket. It'll be a similar look to the Sac State game last year. Even without Danny, I think the D as a unit will show they're really good.

Would it surprise people if we scored 60 today? I wouldn't say it's out of the question against a bad PSU D. If Tommy continues to make passes when teams sell out to stop the run, anything is possible.

Let's get a win heading into the bye and get ready for the stretch run.

Get up for Gameday!

Go Cats Go!!!

If we come out of Hillsboro State with a win, free Voodoo donuts for the whole team courtesy of the R&R boys? :D

Seems to be a lot of MSU fans around. Saw a few pickups blow by me on the drive over.
MSU won here in 2021 (30-17) and 2018 (43-23). Down 17-16 in ‘21 in third quarter. In control in 2018.
Vigen has coached here but not a lot players have played here. Mellott was a special teams guy. Perkins played but not today.
Overcast right now. Expecting a high of 70 and 66 at kickoff. Light wind <5.

There was never going to be a good time to lose Danny U or adjust to life without him, but this game will be a solid learning game for the guys replacing him. Containment will be a challenge but it’s unlikely the Cats will be in a position to get rolled on the D side. It’ll likely be fast fire learning today, and an off week to watch film and better understand assignments will be a solid way for the linebacker core to adjust and be ready for the remainder of the season in my opinion. It’s not ideal, but it could at least be argued that it couldn’t have come at a better time either…

My hope is that Tommy doesn’t need to play past the first half and there’s a lot of valuable offensive reps for the 2’s.

I don't think they'd ever pull the starters at halftime in a conference game and I highly doubt MSU will lead by enough at the half to even consider doing that, but I agree that we're hopefully watching the backups in the 4th quarter! Great chance for the defense to show it can still be great despite the injuries they've suffered.

So far this season Tommy has played the following in the 4th quarter of FCS games:
Utah Tech - 1 drive (completion of drive that began in 3Q)
Maine - None
Mercyhurst - None
Idaho St - 3 drives (All, 1 of which was a 1 play drive)
UNCU - None
Idaho - 1 drive (completion of drive that began in 3Q)

That's 5 4Q drives in 6 games and really only 3 which weren't just carried over from the 3Q.

I'm predicting another None game and that he doesn't play more than 2 drive in the 3rd quarter, and that's mostly because it's a road game.

It's on 7.2 OTA or ESPN+. If you don't have ESPN+, it's worth it to watch the Cats, BSC, and MVFC every weekend
