Cheerleaders left out of Championship

I think it is really sad that only 12 Cheerleaders get to go to Frisco. I understand that there are rules and only 12 can be on the field, but what I cant understand is why the other 12 Cheerleaders are not able to go to Frisco and do their normal PR and Cheer in the stands. These Cheerleaders worked hard all year and this is a great accomplishment and all should be able to be included during this exciting time and be with their TEAM regardless if they are on the field or in the stands. It is hard to believe that the College cannot fund an additional 12 Cheerleaders, and not even give them a Student Ticket. If all the college cares about is Revenue, and not care about these Students feelings on how they have been left behind, then the leaders or faculty who makes these decisions at Montana State University should be ashamed.
I am writing this out of frustration to as what I have heard from students and this is just my own personal opinion.

They helped fund a huge amount for the band so I'm sure there is more to it.

Probably apples to oranges, but the year the CATS won the BSC Men's BB in Reno, they didn't bring Cheerleaders, and a CAT Fan from Livingston went onto the court to cheer and was asked to leave... For those with much better memories than mine maybe can verify, correct or whatever.

I’ll donate some cash if they want to go down there as a group. Ask the school if they will make an exception if the team can raise some of the funds on their own.

I definitely understand the frustration. Is this different from the previous trip to frisco?
Also, I don’t think msu can take everyone on the actual football team. I don’t believe the dept pays for non-travel team players to fly down…at least they didn’t a couple years ago.

I say this with a grain of salt because my daughter is a d1 cheerleader.
The 12 best athletes should be going - it’s what the ncaa allows. I also think that’s a bs arbitrary number from the ncaa. If they can have 16-20 (or whatever the number is) on the sidelines during normal games, they should be able to travel.
However, the additional cheer team can go. They can buy their own tickets and fly down, nothing is preventing that. I don’t think MSU should be in the market to displace paying alumni/fans. Even if they don’t get the revenue from the ticket sales.
This isn’t a post to slam the cheerleaders, I’m a huge supporter.

I mean it sucks but if the band has to fundraiser then the cheerleaders are the same.
Maybe the cheerleaders can have a car wash to get the rest of the kids there? I mean they maybe can't cheer but they'd be there.

Football team and band plus 12 cheerleaders is a lot. Not everyone can go on the house. Sucks but it’s the way it is.

Have a car wash? *CRINGE* Good sentiment but don’t go into fundraising!

With all the extra revenue the college has made this year with the playoffs, I don't agree with you. The students put a lot of time into this program, These students are "donating" their time. They spend many hours a week with practice and doing a lot of PR for the school. Add that to their classes, they don't have time to add a part time job because this is their job. They should be awarded with the opportunity to go as well. I get that they can pay their own way, but how can they pay if they donate all their free time to Cheerleading and don't have a part time job. Parents can only do so much, especially if they are paying their tuition.
And yes, I heard as well that the college is paying for the Band, and I heard if some of the band members cannot go then they are allowing Alumni's to take their place. Who is paying for the Alumni's?
it does suck and it could be a easy fix.

Only 12 cheerleaders are allowed on the field so what would the others do? Seems completely reasonable to only take the number allowed.

I don’t see this as an MSU issue but an NCAA issue. Why in the world would they regulate the number of cheerleaders. I’m mostly with the original poster. Get all of them to Frisco. There’s no way when I was in college and working that I could afford a trip to TX.
Best path forward seems like a meeting between the cheer coach and Leon to discuss avenues to get them to the game. Maybe they could be seated in front of the band like they do in the SEC. All I know is when MSU wins this thing they should be there celebrating with the cheer team and the football team.

What extra revenue? The NCAA takes 85% of the ticket revenue for each playoff game.

Let me ask a few clarifying questions here.
Is this different than when we went to frisco the last time?
Is the dance team going?
Do all 100+ players get to travel?
Whose budget is paying for the band? Athletic Dept? College of arts and architecture? University general fund?
Didn’t a bunch of cheer squad members get in a big van and road trip down last time?

Do all 100+ players get to travel?
https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/champi ... Manual.pdf
Travel Party/Squad Size. The official traveling party for the NCAA Division I Football Championship Game
shall consist of 145 persons. Transportation expenses and a $160 per diem will tentatively be provided for each
member of the travel party.
The number of student-athletes in uniform cannot exceed 70, and at the administrative meeting, each coach
shall designate the 70 student-athletes who will participate in the championship. A roster will be provided that
should be used to list the 70 student-athletes as well as other personnel to be allowed on the sidelines during
the game.
24
No substitutions will be permitted after the submission of the list for any reason. NCAA executive regulations
may require the games committee to forfeit the game to the opponent of a team with more than 70 studentathletes in uniform.
In addition, additional student-athletes on the institutional squad list as of the date of the first-round games
(not on the 70-person roster) will be allowed on the sidelines in their team bench area. The additional studentathletes must be wearing the same color game jersey top as the rest of their team (no pads/helmet) and other
institutionally issued apparel (e.g., sweatsuit pants).

Misleading heading as th group isn't left out they limit the roster. Football team is is also limited so kids who have practiced since August, many non scholarship, who also have to go to class and can't have a job, are not able to go unless they pay their own way. Maybe boosters pay to get them tickets or they got donations. Cheer team could do same.

I dont know the answer to these questions. but perhaps someone else does. I am not even sure if it is 12 cheerleaders that are not able to go. It may be less. I know 12 are going and I was assuming there was 24 total cheerleaders but it could be less. Maybe there is only 18 or 20 total.

Boosters buying plane tickets for players to travel to Frisco would be a big, big no-no according to NCAA rules. Maybe that wouldn't apply to cheerleaders since those teams aren't NCAA-sanctioned. The travel party limit sucks as everyone wants to go to Frisco on the NCAA's dime but it is what it is and affects a lot more than just the cheer team. Hopefully any members of the team who were freshmen in 2021 and didn't get to go then can be on the plane this time as seniors!

I know in 2021 there were a lot of players not suited up but did attend the game. Not sure who paid their way to be there. There are ways for the university to fund travel for players and cheerleaders. Heck, the QB club is funding players travel home over the holidays. Like I wrote before, I’d be more than willing to donate some cash to a go fund me, if the cheerleaders set one up. Obviously, they’d have to find a way to get tickets to the game. MSU didn’t sell out all of their student ticket allotment, but I’m sure that opportunity isn’t available any more. You are running out of time, so, instead of coming on here, better get some cheerleaders and parents together to work with the athletic department and figure out a solution. After you do that, put a notice on BN for financial help.

If they did it directly. But booster and donor money fund a lot of things in the athletic dept. If they have funds to pay for rest of team why would that be an issue. Watch the BCS championship, lots of redshirt, injured, etc on sidelines of those.
