2025 Breakout and Expected Improved Players

Post by kwcat » Sun Jan 12, 2025 2:35 pm

Thought I would give us a ramp up on the subject for the upcoming season.
I personally like what I see in physical development of Cole Taylor at linebacker to start.
I expect continued improvement from Hunter Sharbono at DT.

QB - Why not Chance Wilson?
RB - Latin-Henley
FB - Valcin
WR - Woods
TE - Lencioni
OL - Kaplan
DE - Solano
DL - Sharbono
LB - Taylor or Bowles
CB - McMillan
S - Taki!

I like Wilson at quarterback. I think he just needs to put on some more muscle weight and gain some confidence.

This! I'd also add Provience on offense and Tayden Grey on defensie and either Marsh/Tanupo on the DL but they may be about a year out from really contributing

I'm wondering with some of the corner losses if the staff considers moving Polidore to CB and let Taki take FS. Not saying I love that idea as I feel Polidore is the best DB on the team but he could be a good, lengthy corner to go along with McMillian/Boyd and Williams.

To me Grey and Porvience are already proven commodities. Why I didn't list them. And we definitely need Dru in the deep middle.

I hope Chance Wilson does break out and I’m not ruling it out, but he is SO thin. If I’m answering your question— “why not?”— I would say because he lacks the size, strength, power to be a dual threat at this level.

Needs to get up to about 200-210. That's what Dakota had to do before he took over the ship.

On the OL, I’ll go with Dylan Rollins.

On the DL, I think the trio of MT boys— Sharbono, Marsh, and Wiens are going to make an impact.

Yes and that didn’t happen from year one to year two. Doesn’t mean it can’t but one does wonder why it didn’t.

I remember an interview with Alec Eckert at the beginning of fall camp and the question was asked who lifted the most/was the strongest on the team and he said

"We got a lot of strong guys, I mean Blake Schmidt, he is up there. There are a lot of skill players that are really strong, like Cole Taylor. I'd like to throw my name into the conversation."

I thought that was interesting about Taylor, it was always in the back of my mind so I'd try and watch him on all his special teams reps. I think he has a lot of potential.

Any word on Mason Dethman’s progress? Looks like he’s put on some good weight, but not quite enough yet

I’ll give my answer after Spring Ball. That’s where I saw the most improvement in the players from 2023. When I saw Adam Jones in Spring ball last season, I knew he would be special in 2024.

I mean I know it was Cal Poly but didn't the kid hit his head on the goal post after a 50 yard run with his first carry as a Bobcat in '23? Kinda knew he was special then.

That was a giant hole he ran threw and he showed some speed, but it was Spring ball when you could see how much bigger he had gotten and how physical a runner he had become.

Totally agree. I think both the O and D lines are going to absolutely dominate next year.

It’s such a huge element and I agree they’ll be very good with a chance that the DL will be one of the best in school history which is saying a lot. Definitely a top three FCS DL.

It’s going to be a dog fight at LB and the secondary. I think Gray at NB, Taki and Dowler are the only locks there.
