Not sure how South Dakota State can stay in the top 5 when 25 of their players entered the portal. 21 of those tranfers went to FBS so they were most likely the better players on the team. They did get 11 FBS dropdowns, but those are usually kids looking for more playing time.

And Sac State will be interesting to watch as they have 35 FBS transfers. They supposedly have decent NIL money and high aspirations for the program to move up so they will be a test case for building with the portal.

Until they aren’t top five there’s no reason to think they won’t be with the program they have. Even if they lost 30 players there’s still 70 in house that are quality recruits that are absorbing superior developmental instruction. No discernible difference between them NDSU or MSU. I have a hunch UCD and USD aren’t far behind.

Entirely new coaching staff. You lose the continuity.

Like when we got Vigen? I agree, they are top 5 until they prove they aren’t. I don’t want a new coach but I don’t think we’d drop very far until we proved it one way or the other.

Yep it's an until proven otherwise deal. What an opportunity for us on gold rush.

We were doing good but we're not elite. A few new ideas and we became elite. They were elite, that's a much tougher standard to maintain.

Our program is loaded with talent. If we lost 21 players to FBS in one year, I would not expect us to be a top 5 team.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if we were top 5 in that scenario. I would expect at least top 10, and from there being top 5 isn’t too far of a jump. The top teams in the FCS have a ton of talent, and then there’s a big drop off.

I can't come up with 5 FCS programs who are going to assuredly be better than SDSU. Griz brought in 20 guys. We lost a great QB. USD got hit in the portal. The southern teams haven't shown they can match the physicality of the Dakota teams and us up front. This is the new baseline in FCS. 5-6 teams and 4-5 others trying to climb into that level (Davis, word, Tarleton, idaho, ACU etc).
