UM Band???

As I understand it MSU and UM agreed not to bring their bands on the road in the Brawl of the Wild.
What about this game? The reason I ask is because my seats were close to the SFA band and it was so annoying. They played LOUDLY throughout the game. Credit to them for having a good and loud band but I certainly hope we don’t have to suffer a similar experience Saturday with Brawl 2.0!

There are reserved seats for the band for this game. UM Has until Wednesday to decide if they will be bring theirs or not. The seats are use them or lose them for the band. If they don’t come those tickets will be released back to MSU.

I'm almost certain this is the one time they will send their band. They are looking for every advantage that they can get to make the place less loud for them on offense.

I honestly am shocked that we would allow them to bring their band.

Think it’s more of an NCAA playoff thing.

I don't think we have a say. It's an NCAA event, and bands are always allowed to participate.

That's crazy if true. Hopefully that eats into their total visitor allotment at least.

I might be in the minority here but I hate when the other band shows up, gris band, SFA, whoever.

It just seems counterintuitive to the home field advantage that has been earned in the playoffs. The team has earned the right to have a quiet stadium on offense and a raucous crowd on defense. Hearing an opposing band play when our offense is getting lined up, them playing when we had a penalty (which was quite often this last Saturday) and hearing them play their school song when they score just agitates me.

I’m not 40 yet, but I guess this is my old man, get off my lawn moment. But I’d be ok if another opposing band was never at Bobcat stadium again.

End rant.

I agree with this. It's also frustrating that they don't stop playing within the time frame they are supposed to (i believe its still 15 seconds on the play clock)

SFA's band was tight for sure on Friday. Texas band culture is a whole different animal from what you typically see in the Big Sky... SotW being a major outlier there.

But even if UM could get its entire band back for this game it would pale in comparison to what (what was probably half of) SFA's band delivered. Christmas break decimates numbers. And UM's band even at full strength is markedly smaller than ours. It would likely be a pretty small contingent.

It doesn’t. UM received 500 for their fans. Not sure the number for the band but it’s probably around 75? They will want to do all they can to get their band here but they are also on winter break.

The only band in any home stadium should be the home band. Neutral site games should have both but never at a home site.

I mean that's what we're used to, but that's not generally how major college football works. Big games against big programs will have both bands represented.

From the NCAA Football Operations Manual.
Bands. Host institutions must make space available for the visiting team band, on request. The host institution may
place the location for the band seating in the same location as is used during the regular season. The band seating block
should be in addition to the regular visiting team seating block. Band members who are in uniform and performing at the
championship will not be charged admission to the competition or their band seating block.
If the visiting institution intends to bring its band to the game it shall be required to notify the host tournament manager
no later than Monday at 5 p.m. (host institutions local time) that it will be bringing its band and the size of the band. The
early notice will allow the host institution ticket operations as much time as possible to accommodate seating for the
visiting teams band.

As a courtesy, institutions that plan to travel to a road game with their band should consider potential matchups in future
rounds and notify potential future hosts sites well in advance of their intent to bring a band. This will allow potential host
sites to have plenty of time to plan accordingly.

Bands, or any component thereof, are allowed to play during time-outs, halftime, and before and after the competition.
Bands are not allowed to play during the game, meaning once the ball is spotted and the umpire or center judge backs
away from the ball, the band must stop playing.

Can they even afford to send their band all the way to Bozeman? I know that has been an issue for UM in the past.

I find a bunch of loopholes in this language that I will not mention here to give any ideas. Also, the last line of this is what makes me mad - bands never actually stop playing when they are supposed to. I feel like they should get 1 warning and then start getting penalties if they do it again - I'm sure it would put a quick stop to the playing way to late.

Meh not a great big deal and really is one of the traditions of college football that make it college football. Band members put a bunch of time and some money into performing and supporting their school's teams and should get something in return.

Since they are an official representative of the school, playing outside the rules should be warned once and then penalized.

Well, they may have time for a bake sale and a go fundme page. Or maybe let alumni band members bid for the chance to attend and bring their instrument. Would sound just as bad as their regular band.

I enjoyed the SFA band. They are the best sounding marching band I've ever heard in person. Yes SotW is good. But SFA was really good.

But yes they need to stop playing when supposed to. I did get a kick out of them playing once the ball was caught on a kickoff during the return. The William Tell overture.
