Why does BH deserve "so much credit?"

Bobby Hauck is apparently some coaching mastermind and deserves so much credit for "leaning into an offensive style." Really? If I'm missing something, please correct me, but those are the guys he recruited. Seems like pretty basic strategy to me. So why does he deaerve so much credit for not being a stubborn old coot?

The Griz have not won a national championship since 2001. And that's despite having one of if not the best teams in the country in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. All those Griz teams lost in the playoffs or the natty because of several reasons, but the primary one being Hauck's reluctance to let it rip offensively because he wanted to win a title playing his style.

When Montana was bad defensively last year, rather than leaning into his offense, Hauck started playing an intentional style to lose 31-17 (ish) instead of get blown all the way out or give up in the 50s like they did earlier in the season to EWU and Weber. Montana State beat Montana 34-11 last year. That was Hauck mitigating. The Cats were 4-5 TDs better than Montana last year, at least.

After more than two decades as a head coach, Hauck has finally reconciled himself with winning 50-29 instead of 28-3.

I hadn't thought about it from that perspective. Thanks Colter! I'm looking forward to your show on Friday at the R Bar!

So… he set the bar pretty low on his adaptability and has been stubborn for the better part of two decades, but he finally realized he has a far better offense than he does a defense and if he wants a shot at the big one, he should lean into what his team, that he recruited and developed, is actually good at?

Interesting.

I’m only kind of joking here. It is just funny to see the “credit” he’s getting. And by all means, the griz are good this year, but he’s doing what every remotely decent coach should do every single year, lean into what your team excels at.
But since he didn’t do that for years upon years and now finally did one year, he’s a genius.

I think what @Colter_Nuanez is saying is that Hauck showed personal growth by being willing to change his approach. That's something I can appreciate.

Yes, and I am really starting to come around to how much of a genius he's turning into. I mean that move to hold back and not win that game in Missoula so they could come to Bozeman and win the more important one, was absolute brilliance.

Reading multiple things about Bobby's record in the post season over all the years he's been coaching is really quite amazing. You would think he's a coaching god for all the accolades he gets but when you actually look at his numbers they're not really that impressive. Yes, he's been coaching a long time but it seems he's gotten in his own way alot.

Pretty sure it was Colter and Sammy talking about him finally letting Pease open the playbook during the playoffs, and that was kinda of a new thing, so that's interesting.

I know many have said he's regarded as the 2nd coming over west, and he'll leave on his own accord whenever he wants to because of that, but what if they lose Saturday, not by 1-3, but actually get blown out again, as they have several times in Bozeman? Of course if they win Saturday, and subsequently the NC, they'll erect a statue in his honor I'm sure. But if the Cats dominate, and subsequently win the NC, will that finally cause the griz faithful to start looking at Bobby without the rose colored glasses?

No, they’ll still see him as a god. They’ll blame it on any excuse they can find, it was the refs, the turf was slick, the bobcat heaters were better than theirs, they didn’t have access to the toilets, the smell from the concessions threw them off their game, etc.

Ah yes, you are right! My FB feed was just full of “its not fair”, “the griz would never do that”, “we’re 12-1, why don’t we get the home game”, “the game should be at a neutral site in Butte”, blah blah blah.

The Griz have not won a national championship since 2001. And that's despite having one of if not the best teams in the country in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. After more than two decades as a head coach, Hauck has finally reconciled himself with winning 50-29 instead of 28-3.
This is one of the most impressive posts I've ever seen. Colter being a member of the media who relies on access to coaches and players with the stones to say this is impressive. Hauck has proven to be a retaliatory ahole to the media for speaking the truth. Kudos for truth to power. Mucho respect...
