Blocked extra point

Post by lutecat » Wed Jan 07, 2026 1:38 pm

Vigen in his pressers talks about the face mask being one way to tackle. Say Seth gets free and they dont get the face mask tackle. Max he gets is 2 points right? Or is that just NFL?

The way coach talked made me wonder if it would've been 6.

The face mask came on the blocked XP in OT on Petrie.
I don't know the rules, but if he had returned it, is it 2 or 1 point in OT?

It would be for 2 points. The most the offense could have gotten was 2 points, so it wouldn't be fair for the defense to be able to get 6

Now a safety occurring in that situation would be 1 point, but that's like the rarest scoring play in football

It’s worth 2 points.

It's weird that there's no enforcement on the play. I understand the logic behind it, but it sounds like it's basically prison rules on a play like that.

Exactly! At the very least there should be 15 yds (or half thr distance) on the next play.

Yeah if he returned it Cats would have won outright on the catch and the PAT wouldn't have been necessary. It does seem like there needs to be some sort of enforcement. I doubt the ISU player knew it wouldn't be an unenforceable penalty.

I don't understand the logic. Can you tell me what you think?

I think this is the rule:

Fouls During a Try After a Change of Team Possession
ARTICLE 4. a. Penalties against either team are declined by rule. (Exception:
Penalties for flagrant personal fouls, unsportsmanlike conduct fouls, dead-ball
personal fouls and live-ball fouls treated as dead-ball fouls are enforced on the
succeeding kickoff or at the succeeding spot in extra periods. See Rule 8-3-5.)
(A.R. 8-3-4-I and II)

Then they probably needed to find a way to call it flagrant. Damn near tore his head off...

I agree!

While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

I've had friends who are barely casual football fans say that while watching the game just how brutal of a facemask that tackle was.

griz fans; keeping it classy and gracious in winning since ... well, never.
