If anyone has a media outlet in its back pocket, it's UM with Moss and now Dougherty at Sports Network. They play to UM every chance they get, not that they shouldn't as I'm sure UM provides a large number of readers. I heard Moss flew into Msla. last year, then drove over to Boz with Missoulian's Kasper.

Here's the numbers: JH had one KO return for a TD at a key point in the game and another for 18 yards. Lulay, with the wind crossing field diagonally, had punts of 81, 61, and 53 yards among others and had a 48.3 average. Two of those, including the 81-yarder, were into that crossing wind. I'm not saying which is more deserving, but I don't know how you can knock Don Hansen's pick as Lulay had an amazing day punting the ball. It's pretty subjective and I can see I-AA's picking JH.

Great a QB that punts good. :D Just what I want.

How good of an offensive series did your QB have if he can get 80 and 60 yard punts off? Sounds like 3 and out. I can hear the chear now in the litter box, "Yea, Yea our QB gets to punt from the 5."

Kramer, "Ok Travis take a sack on 3rd and 15 so you can punt from the endzone."

TL "Thanks, coach this should keep my average above 45 yards"

Never mistake activity for accomplishment.

I'm sick of the man because the man is a thief.

I wouln't be getting excited to have a QB as a special teams player of the week because of his PUNTING.
Although it is a great attribute to have in a QB.

I think one of Lulay's post-game quotes sums it up (and I'm paraphrasing because I don't have it in front of me):

I don't want to become known as a punter who also plays quarterback.

Yeah, it's great to have a good game punting, but it's not something he or the team is going to cherish all that much. I think he'd be a lot happier if his leg got a lot less work in all future games.

When you see our defense this year you'll get an idea of how tough it it is going to gain back those yards :) You'll see here in about 2.5 months.

Yes I will. But 19 pts won't cut it against the Griz this year, and I have no doubt what-so-ever that both Maine and Hofsrta's D's are better than Adams State's D.

I thought I was only one who thought that :) both Moss and Dougherty probably have Griz paw tattoos on their ankles now I bet

In niche market sports like I-AA football, you have to keep the readers happy in the few areas that will pay attention. I wouldn't write a thing about schools that had no fanbases, if I was in their position -- there's no upside to it.

Fortunately, I think MSU is among those few fanbases in the country that is large enough to get some good attention from them as well. [cue pointless rant about comparative attendance numbers between UM and MSU from usual suspects].

I'm not so sure Hofstra's D was as good as Adams's D. The ASC D was probably better than some in the Big Sky and deserves some respect for doing as well as they did against, albeit, a bumbling MSU offense. They also played good D in 2002 in Bozeman. MSU's offense only scored 17 of its 31 points against them that year and did not rack up much yardage.

As for 19 pts not cutting it against UM this year: 8 pts would've been enough in 2002 and 21 would've done the trick last year. UM isn't that much better on offense this year.

You are talking about the same Adams St. that only won 4 games last year....the same Adams St. that has yet to win a game this year in their 3 attempts. That Adams St?

That would be that Adams St. Specifically, their defense. Their defense is good. I'm basing that on the two games I've seen them play and the info I've seen re: other games they've played. From what I can tell they seem better than Hofstra, the Hofstra which gave up 41 pts last week and only won two games last year. That Hofstra. ASC only allowed one long drive for a TD last week and that drive needed a fake punt to sustain it. They've looked good defensively in all their games this year. Hofstra looked lousy on defense last week and I see why they only won two games last year.

Adams state (while not winning a game yet this year) definately has a Big Sky level defense. They had big DL and players in the secondary who could make plays ... just didn't have the depth on D like the Bobcats etc.

Ok, I'll give you that they have a good D.
But they have no O whatsoever.

Hmmm. I don't know about that, but I could be wrong. I know their D was pretty solid but not sure how it would stack up against the other Big Sky D's. It's really intriguing though, because I'm thinking under normal circumstances, we should have put up around 40. I'm guessing we'll see a much stronger defense on Saturday, but I also feel we'll by much improved and ready for it.

It's always nice to think that the Big Sky is better in all facets than Div. II teams, I just don't think that's the case. For one, I don't think the gap is that big all the way around, but sometimes one area can be so decisively better than a rout ensues.

Yes, JahGriz, ASC did have a bad offense, especially when the correct defense (3-4) was played.
