Mr. Gorbachev...Tear down this dome!

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Sun Oct 03, 2004 3:44 pm

I know Holt Arena is much more to the people of SE Idaho than a football stadium-they use the place in much same way we in the Bozeman area use the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. But when the weather was as nice as yesterday it's almost criminal to be playing football in the sterile enviornment of a dome. Pocatello has pretty nice weather for the most part-they need an outdoor stadium.

But anyway-what a great day for Bobcat fans. Winning on the road is special-being there to see it is priceless.

Truth be told-the Bobcats were freaking lucky to win that game. Maybe our luckiest win since Sac State in 2001.

Roger Cooper was an animal. To see him fly to the ball on artifical turf is an awesome site. The man is fast.

There were a lot of great plays, but the one play that stood out to me that I don't think has been mentioned was Kory Austin coming out of no where to bat the ball away on what would have been a sure touchdown over the middle. ISU had a similar play against Eddie Sullivan, who was wide open and would have trotted into the endzone if completed.

With ISU's tall experienced senior receivers and our green cornerbacks, I would have thrown it deep a lot more. The one time they did they got a touchdown. I couldn't figure out why they were throwing all the short stuff. Perhaps it was because our d-line and linebackers weren't giving their QB very much time to drop back and throw.

Hetherington is not the most mobile guy in the world, but he's a good solid quarterback. In fact I like ISU's offense a lot. They just couldn't put us away when they had the chance (and they had plenty of chances).

Great coming out party for Epi King (I'm not going to try to spell his first name). I also thought Corky Lindsay played well.

We need to get better on first down. If we can be 2nd and 6 or 5 instead of 2nd and 8 or 9 it will make a huge difference. Domineck seems to be the favored back and he ran much harder in this game. But I don't think you run it up the gut on turf-you need to beat the defense around the outside, and Domneck just isn't that fast.

It was a nice day out. The ISU folks we encountered from the ticket booth, ushers, and fans were very friendly and welcoming. It's a little sad that they had such a small crowd (7,028). For whatever reason ISU football hasn't captured the hearts and minds of the people SE Idaho. Still, their crowd was the second largest for the Big Sky yesterday, Portand and Weber's crowds were disappointingly small as well.

Their fans weren't very nice to us. I wish we met your welcoming fans, cuz everyone we saw booed us.

You always find those fans wherever you go. In fact, I tried to say hello to some of the Cats, but my salutations were ignored. Perhaps it was all of the alcohol that was being consumed by the masses.

Do you really think there was 7,000 fans there? I don't.

That is what the announcer said. :P Well, 7000 people. Fans, I can't vouch that fact. :)

No one tried talking to us, but I sure would have been receptive. The only talk we got was booing. :)
