While udoubtedly true, I am also guessing that this person writes some rather large checks. Any idividual can get on the President's calendar, but it ain't always easy unless the path is well greased.
If a person claims to be representing a large group of people, like the QBC, when they request the meeting, it's probably relatively easy to get on the calendar.

Good point. The question that comes to my mind, is have we possibly overreacted a bit, and implemented too many restrictions? If what mslacat is saying is really accurate, it would seem that we have virtually no chance to ever become a program that is consistently among the top 2 or 3 in the BSC. It would also seem that we are hamstringing our coaches so much, that even some very good students are not allowed to be recruited by MSU. Are we elimating 10 great student-athletes from consideration, on the slimmest of chances that 1 of those 10 might not make the grade academically? If that is indeed true, then I would say that we have in fact overreacted to some degree.
Interesting way to look at it. I have to say that MSU is really covering its bases if you combine what mslacat is saying with what I've learned over the past couple years and with what Will has reported about football players/NCAA clearinghouse. I won't bore everyone with my student-athlete support lecture again, but MSU does do a lot to assist student/athletes with academics and out-of-state student/athletes adjusting to the new scene that Bozeman and Montana are.

QBC is still a democracy!...One man ...one vote. You pay $1000+ and get the say of one person! That's the American way! No one should have more influence just because he is a "Heavy Hitter" within the QBC...it's an organization to help the Football team compete in recruiting with the others in the conference....It's not the facilities fund drive!

Whomever thinks that Ash is not doing a good job has either got an issue with Fields, or he's been watching the wrong team the past few years. Mike Kramer won a conference championship in his 3rd year by a series of miraculous circumstances ( e.g. last second field goal with a face mask penalty after time had expired at Sac ST.) and with a freshman QB who turned into maybe the best one we've ever had! At the time he recruited Lulay, he didn't even know what he had. He also had a bunch of transfers together with some good Montana players and out of staters. But they never really turned the corner in the program into a "re-loading type" like UM. That's due to the "quick fix" mentality that the boosters demanded of him.

Ash, however, has been granted "TIME" to build a program that will perpetuate itself. He's doing it by building a sound academic foundation, and developing depth from freshman that will be around for 4 or 5 years. That kind of depth does not happen in 2 or three years...but after about 5 or 6....it doesn't go away and it's hard to destroy with one or two bad games. These "Heavy Hitters" have no patience, and would keep firing coaches every three years until we couldn't get a junior high coach to come to MSU!

Ash is doing it the right way and we will see in the next few years the fruits of patience!

I think this restriction needs to go

Restrictions on recruiting players until they have received a passing ACT/SAT. Most schools will recruit a kid with good grades and assume that when he takes the ACT/SAT will get a passing grade.

How can we compete against USC when they are making offers to Jr High students. lol

This makes it hard to chase the great Sophmore and Junior players. Does this restriction mean we can't even talk to these kids? If yes, it is a bad rule. We need to be able to talk to these kids and let them know what they need to do to play for MSU. The sooner the better.

If ash decides a kid with low grades is a good risk, he will join with his counselor and school officials and create a program that will get him eleigible and help him pass the ACT. He has done this with Everett Gilbert, C.J. Palmer, and Kerry Sloan
