Stewart gone

In the paper today. Not sure if it was posted yet but Jamie Stewart is no longer on the team officially.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Here is the link to Gidal's article:

http://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/sp ... f887a.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In the article, Gidal states:

Since the start of the 2010-’11 season, 11 players have left the MSU program for various reasons, among them dismissal, academic ineligibility or NCAA rules violations. That includes at least four walk-ons.
Huse welcomed nine new players to the roster in 2010, seven in 2011 and eight this season.

Everyone program loses players, but these numbers are disturbing. No wonder the team continues to struggle. Why does Coach Huse lose so many players?

Off top of head, I know of four (Sprinkle, Starr, Priebe, Pfeiffer) that are no longer there. Shawn Dirden is in his second stint

Coach Huse's 2010 recruiting class included 6 freshmen: Chris McCall, Casey Trujeque, Shawn Reid, Tre Johnson, Tor Anderson, and Ryan McIntyre. Not a single one is left.

Gidal's article and the player defection numbers over the past 3 seasons are pretty damning...

Here's the side story I did after the PSU win with the players' reaction to Stewart getting kicked off and Bigelow's suspension. I got more from the players than the Chronicle. I'm hearing Bigelow might be on his way out too...

From Colter's article:
" However Bigelow, a junior who was the 2011 Southern California junior college Player of the Year at Mount San Antonio College, remains suspended indefinitely."

If Bigelow is done, then why is Coach Huse just letting him hang in limbo? The players obviously need to respect the coach. But doesn't the coach have an obligation to treat his players with respect as well? Why expend the time and money to recruit (I am assuming) talented players, and then, over and over again, run them off for whatever reason?

Hard to make too many judgments on this situation without knowing all the details. I could see a number of situations where it would be perfectly logical to suspend him indefinitely. Remember, Huse is a guy who holds his cards pretty close to his chest and isn't generally forthcoming with a lot of information.

There is a major problem with the men's basketball program and as I much as I respect Coach Huse, I can't see him being extended as MSU's basketball coach after his contract is up.

Feels a little like the Kramer years in the respect that we are recruiting talented athletes at all costs but are not making sure that will fit at MSU academically, socially etc..

Huse isn't getting the job done and his players do not like him. What's the point any more. Excitement is at an all time low.

Nice come-from-behind overtime victory tonight for the Cats, 70-68, over EWU.

Point guard Marcus Colbert appeared to injure his back in the first half. Backup Michael Dison played well the rest of the game (35 minutes) as the only remaining point guard. Maybe Colbert's injury will cause Coach Huse to grant point guard Antonio Biglow a reprieve.

WOW

That is pretty crazy. McCall, Reid, Trujeque and Johnson were pretty talented.... I didn't realize the entire class had left/been dismissed.... not good.

One thing's for sure-getting two wins gives Huse a lot more leverage.

Regardless of how we fare this year, that is reason enough to fire Huse at season's end. It's impossible to build a winning program, with that much turnover in personnel.
