Next Years Team
This has been one of the best seasons (if not the best) in MSU history. Hopefully the season goes on for a few more games. How does the team look for next year? We lose three key contributors (all starters). Who replaces them?

Re: Next Years Team
Losing X, Amin and Abdul will be tough especially in the leadership roles. But think about Belo and Great in the paint next season when we decide we want to dominate the paint. Will really allow Belo to take off because doubles will be trouble for opponents. Then Battle will continue to grow within the team and could press to be a leading scorer in the Big Sky.
Besides losing that leadership, we may have trouble with a floor general. Tynes and Spears will really need to grow in the college game so we are confident and not turning the ball over. Young and need more experience there.

Darian and Kola back as seniors, wowza they are going to be great.

Re: Next Years Team
It'll be interesting to see what Coach Sprinkle decides to do with the roster, as even with the three seniors leaving he'll still have 13 returning scholarship players which goes back to being the maximum allowed number next year. Borja Fernandez seems like a good candidate to move on since his playing time has all but disappeared this year. A transfer portal PG would seem to be a priority unless Sprinkle thinks Tynes and Spears will be ready to run the show next year. Battle, Belo, and Osobor are a great core to build around and hopefully the rest of this year's big freshman class can step in and contribute next year.
The women are flat out loaded for next year and possibly two more years depending on whether Darian and Kola take advantage of the extra COVID year of eligibility.

Excited to see the growth of the womens team they could be down right scary especially with some of the new additions coming in. I’ll let my thoughts for next years Mens team start after we win a conference championship tonight

Can never forget 1928-32 when the Bobcats were a legit national power. They were in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with Colorado, Wyoming, N. Colorado, Denver, Colorado State, Colorado College, Western State, BYU, Utah, Utah State.
In 1928-29 they were 36-2. The next few years were just about as good.
I know, different era, different game..but it is what it is.

Anyone know how Lindsey Hein's injury is coming along? Noticed she wasn't using crutches at the Big Sky tournament.

Re: Next Years Team
Both are teams are going to be fairly loaded next season. Point guard for the men is the biggest/only question mark for me.

Re: Next Years Team
I agree on the floor general and other scorers. I think Patrick the alaska kid could be a 10pt player a game to fill in for Mo and I think Ray takes over scoring for both the other loss's, but its that x factor to go with them. Belo and Great will dominate the paint. I am not sold on #2, but he has shown flashes its a confidence thing I think for him. I think Tynes is a defensive stud, but I think Spears is a better scorer. I think Sam will also be the first guy in for one of the bigs too. I think he will replace Belo after next year and those two in the paint will be great also. Also the kid from Alaska that has been missing who knows what his status is? Also I agree on Borja and I could even see Spears moving on possibly. I think Spears isn't liking sitting the bench just from watching him every game. Its tough for some kids. Also it will be interesting to see as far as the Bozeman kid. I think he would do well in the Frontier. Also we have a big scoring pt guard coming in as a freshman, but not sure he can take the reins yet either. I think we will garner some drop downs interest with what we have returning if a guy wants to play on a winning team. I to be honest am just as excited for next year! I can see a couple of these guys stepping up and also we get to see a little of the big guy every once in awhile as well as the kid from Missoula who redshirted with him as well. Gonna be great. Now just gotta keep that ball and chain around Sprinkles ankles for awhile.

Not sure Tyler keeps his place unless he starts to perform better on offense.
While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

Unless there's a transfer, Spears starts at PG. There you go. You heard it here first.

Re: Next Years Team
I think this second half has been enough evidence for everyone worried about next year that we’re going to be just fine.

Re: Next Years Team
I’m not sure why people say that. Xavier played all but about 30 seconds of this game. Spears or Tynes might be great at point guard but we certainly didn’t learn that from this game. We have a good depth everywhere but point guard in my opinion.
But I don’t wanna start worrying about next year yet. Still having way too much fun with this year!

Re: Next Years Team
Nick G ran quite a bit of offense today, had huge stretches where Adamu and Mohammad sat on the bench and freshman and sophomores played huge minutes in a championship game. It’s hard to imagine a team without X but Sprinkle has proven to develop a system with a lot of movement and post feeding, which is a place where we don’t lose any strength next season.Long Time Cat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 11:27 pmI’m not sure why people say that. Re: Next Years Team
I would have been surprised, just seeing the final score, that we had done that practically without Belo and with Battle making an early exit (hope he will be okay). The younger set was able to hold up their end of things very well.
However — take a look at the Women’s and the Men’s conference tournament MVPs. The two smallest point guards in the conference, or thereabouts. There is a lot of emphasis on finding bigs that can play, and rightly so. Everyone has 6-9, 10, 11 guys that can play. But I’d say an all hands on deck effort to find those outstanding smaller guards is necessary to be a top team. Are they under-recruited? How scarce are they? We need to find the next Darian and the next X if we want to stay at the top or improve. And another version of Kola (or two) or Jubrile or Great every other year would help a lot, too.

THIS. I am increasingly hearing chatter about him interviewing for other jobs. Hopefully this chatter is akin to the McGhee-to-TCU or Ifanse-to-wherever gris fan rumors.

I don't think there's any doubt that Coach Sprinkle will attract interest from other schools after what he's done at MSU. The question is ultimately what opportunities he gets offered and whether they'll be enough to lure him away so soon. MSU is in good hands if he does go, Costello has hit it out of the park with his two major coaching hires of Sprinkle and Vigen and I trust he can do the same again the next time a vacancy opens.

I would say he wants to be here but it would be difficult to turn down a possible multi million offer.
