I like the progress I've seen from Picton. Her energy is awesome.
She's looks more in control of her as she moves than last year. You can tell she's been in the weight room. Not that she was out of control. But there's just a difference in how she moves.

This Bobcat team is fun to watch....the defense is ferocious....and I found myself counting steals.....I'm thinking the cheer squad should have a board to post an "S" for each steal....similar to posting a "K" in baseball....

She stayed down near the end with what looked like an ankle issue. Hope she's ok.

Wow. Dominated.

Another 17 steals for the team…. 7 for chirrick, unreal!

What is the big sky record for team steals in a season and individual steals in a season?

20 wins!!!! Go cats
Bobcats currently sit at 307 steals or 14 per game. Taylee sits at 71 steals or 3.2 steals per game.

I don’t know Big Sky record but back in the Liz Holz era you had a stealing machine.

Bobcat records for steals:

Team steals: 345 1986-87 team…..I think current team can exceed this and pass the 400 steal mark at the current pace.

Individual single season: Liz Holz 124 1988-89….will be really tough for Taylee to pass this mark this year.

Career: Liz Holz 340 1986-89….no doubt in my mind that if Taylee stays healthy she can eclipse this mark.

Edit add: Liz Holz had 3 consecutive seasons over 100 steals…..103-113-124. She played in 82 games so she averaged 4.1 steals per game over her career. It is possible Taylee can sneak into third best all time if she gets over the 103 mark of Liz….it’s in reach this year anyway.
Alright the nerd in me had to get into the Big Sky Records on steals.

Most steals in a season: 573 by Sac State in’14-15. That’s 17 steals per game! Did they have the same stat keeper as Robbie Hauck?! During the era from’11-‘17 Sac State teams recorded 6 of the top 10 steal records in Big Sky History. MSU record of 345 ranks 15th all time. It is possible the current team could break into the Top 10 list with a strong and extended season…in fact if they averaged 14 per game over 9 remaining games (assuming worst case scenario of one tourney game) they will be in Top 5 all time and if we have extended tourney and post season tourney it is conceivable they finish 2nd or 3rd all time.

Most steals in a game by a team: 30 by Sac State in ‘14. MSU tied for 2nd with three teams for a 28 steal game against Montana Tech in 2000. The 26 steals recorded against Chadron this year would tie us for 5th best all time in Big Sky….in actuality it is tied for 3rd best recorded steal count.

Individual steals in a game: 11 by 2 players….Dunbar of Weber and Strange of UNC. Taylee’s 11 steals against Eastern Washington this year ties her for the best single game performance in Big Sky history.

Individual steals in a season: 124 by Liz Holz of MSU . All 3 of her 100 steal seasons rank in Top 10. If Taylee can top Liz 103 season she will break into Top 10 all time in Big Sky.

Individual steals in a career: 346 by Strange of UNC, Liz Holz of MSU is second with 340. As I said above, if Taylee can stay healthy and gets more playing time this record is likely to fall through the course of next 4 years. It certainly is in range! Interesting here is that Erica Perry of MSU at 286 ranks 7th and Darian White at 254 is 12th. But there is this name….Tricia Bader (now Binford) with 271 that still holds down the number 10 spot all time in the Big Sky…way to go coach!

Those 2010s Sac State teams coached by Bunky Harkleroad were a spectacle to watch. Their goal on offense was to take a 3-pointer as quickly as they possibly could and then they played full-court pressure defense the entire game. If you broke their press it was basically a guaranteed layup on offense. They would routinely score and allow point totals well over 100. A couple of their teams were quite good but overall they didn't break through until they won the championship in 2023 with a much more conventional style of play.

I remember those fast paced games. I didn’t mention it but as I was scanning the Big Sky records there is a category for most 3 point shots taken in a game. Sac State games are all over that category. They took 85 treys in one game! One game in the top 10 is a game against MSU where they took 65 treys!

If she got hurt, that explains why Chirrick finished off the game at point (and really padded her stats). After that timeout with 3 or 4 minutes left in the game, it looked like Binford gave the subs the green light to just go play and not try to milk the clock which I liked. Coach did kinda call off the dogs & stopped the full court pressure defense though.

Hey Portland area Bobcats....hope you'll consider coming to the game today. PSU Viking Pavilion is a great venue to watch the game and the tickets are cheap! I'll be there with a contingent of fans to cheer on the Cats to their 20th victory! Go Cats!!
We’ve got three Washington girls on the team in Morales, Philip, and Harris so hopefully they have family coming. If you listened to Cat Chat on Tuesday this week Addison Harris is from Camas Washington right across the River from Portland so she has a crew coming and she said her high school team may come and watch, which would be neat. And if you see a lady with red hair that looks like a “spitting image” of Addy sitting in the stands…well that would be Addison’s mom! Tell her hi from all of Bobcat Nation.
All 3 Washington girls had their families and friends come to the game. Plus another Pacific Northwest girl in Dykstra from Vancouver, Canada that had a handful of friends & family come down. Sure seemed like there were more Cats in the audience than Portland fans.

Since the announced attendance was 602, more than likely true.
