Wrote this in my game story about MSU, but 13-seeds have won 7 times in 124 games all-time. But No. 14 and No. 15 seeds have never won. 12-seeds have 26 wins in the history of the NCAA women's tournament.

And only one of those wins by a 13 seed (Rice in 2000) was on the #4 seed's home court. It's really really hard to pull off the upset in the current format. They and Harvard winning the 16 vs 1 game at Stanford in 1998 are the only road teams to ever win in the first round since the expansion to 64/68 teams.

If the Lady Cats could have carried their momentum from the first half into the 2nd that would have been so great. I picked up the game driving home near the end of the first quarter when they were up by 4 I think. I was surprised, and clearly so were the announcers, which I'm sure contributed to their condescending attitudes in calling the game. I mean really, who is Montana State compared to Ohio State? MSU are just little fish, I'm sure was their opinions, and the fans.

But credit the coaches and players for going in with a great game plan and giving them a big scare in the first half. They saw a team who was worthy of respect, and showed they belonged there. I'm sure the half time "pep" talk to the OSU players by their coach was pretty intense, as evidenced by how they took it to MSU in the 3rd. But I was still proud of how the girls kept trying to get back in it despite the run by OSU.

Have always been far more of a MSU football fan than basketball, but I became much more interested this year and am really looking forward to watching the ladies next year especially.

I thought the crowd was kind of whiny with their booing, especially on that obvious push foul on Izzy. Maybe they're just as onery as we are in the Brick and I'm just biased?
I think you want a crowd that's engaged with the game. As with many calls we collectively boo in the Brick, I'm sure they couldn't see the arm extension and felt like Izzy flopped, and as you know from all the games you watch at the Brick, we rarely get to see a good replay of those calls, but when we do we are too busy booing to notice. I'd take a large engaged crowd over the absent crowds we experience through most of the big sky schedule anyday.

I hope the coaching staff remains intact. They seem to work very well together. I imagine there will be interest from other programs for the assistants.

Tennessee 82, Ohio State 67. OSU had a 16-0 run in the third quarter to cut a 17 point lead to 1 but had nothing left in the tank after that.

One other point....I think more support for this program is important....what's the best way to do that? Season tickets? Fastbreak club? Bobcat Collective....interested in your thoughts.
It all depends on how you want to support the team as the 3 paths you mention route money to different areas. Season tickets are going to scholarships and general operations. Fastbreak club will largely cover program specific items that aren’t in the general budget provided to the team by the university. Collective funds are dollars that will go directly to players. All are important and need to be working together for a healthy and successful program.
Snarf’s answer is good and I will build on that. The season tickets go towards the broader athletics needs…important for our athletic department which come back to benefit our WBB. Contributions to Fastbreak and Collective are pinpointed directly to WBB needs. If you are looking long term then you won’t go wrong doing any of the three.

If you want to do something today that is needed “immediately” and impactful “now”, i would go to the Collective. You can designate Collective donations to a sport so you can give directly to WBB through the Collective. The reason I say Collective “now” is because this post season time is where Coach will be having discussion with players on whether they want to stay or are thinking of leaving and also assessing needs in the portal if we do lose some key players…..thus Collective dollars can perhaps help retain a player if it comes down to funding discussion or it could provide her some funds for recruiting in the portal if needs arise.

The Fastbreak funding cycle will start again in July. Fastbreak run a fiscal year cycle of July 1 to June 30..so they will be starting their fund raising cycle sometime in the July to August timeframe. If you want to set down to see what the needs are that the Fastbreak addresses I would be happy to sit down with you offline and go over their specific budget needs. Just send me a DM.
