HAHA... This was the 2nd game of the year that I got to actually cheer while at an MSU Women's Game. The 1st was Cat/griz in Bozeman. That game was a blow-out, so not a lot of yelling. This one, was different... I have very little voice left. The players asked me after their 1st game if I am more nervous calling a game, and I said HELL NO. When you are calling a game you are so involved in looking at stats, or watching replays and what have you, that it goes by FAST. Sitting in the stands and cheering is 1000 times worse. I have no fingernails left, and I am pretty sure if the refs knew who I was, they would never talk to me again. It was great chatting with @rfischer94 throughout the tourney. Had some really nice compliments from some other fans that came up to say Hi. Appreciate all of them. (Even though my parents think my head grew about 10 sizes). Announcing isn't easy, and I always worry about making sure I am non-biased with every call I do. I would like to call the games in Boise, but my agent hasn't received that call (He is actually just a friend that I now say is my "Agent"). Trust me though, I got texts all week about the Broadcast. Even my wife texted saying "I had to mute the TV".rfischer94 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 13, 2025 1:56 pmDon't worry -- I use whiteboards now! Again they interviewed Esme and then done. Broadcast over. Griz game yesterday they kept the broadcast going for at least 20 minutes.
Redpath sucked that game. I was on my phone so I couldn't switch to another broadcast. She was totally phoning in for the griz. My favorite was after the game she says something to the effect of its so exciting to go to the big dance, I've been there, who do you want to give a shout out to? What was that?
Redpath was bad, her broadcasting partner Tracy Warren was worse. I can’t really tell them apart, but my wife said it was Tracy doing all the screaming when the gris took the lead. @SACCAT must have been spinning in his recliner. This announcing duo is about as far from neutral as they can be — I’m surprised ESPN doesn’t give them the thumbs down.
I tried to note a few of the bad ones, but my iPhone was overwhelmed. In the first half, Bartsch shot a 3-pointer resulting in the comment (from Tracy?) “Just off the mark!”, when in reality it was a total airball, and not a particularly good one of those, being several feet short and left. Just constant one-sided bending of the facts, making you wonder “What game are they watching?”
During the UM - NAU game Tracy was singing the praises of Sophie Glancey. I just listened to the audio again. She said something like “… everyday, you want Sophie Glancey on your team. Arguably the Conference … umm … Co-MVP.” No argument about it — she wasn’t. They supplied a number of digs at the Bobcat’s Esmeralda Morales, the Conference MVP who lead her team to win, not lose.
At the 7 seconds to go mark, one of them said gleefully, “Amazing. The gris lost to Idaho twice in the regular season, beat them in the tournament. 0-2 against NAU, beat them in the tournament. And now 0-2 against MSU in the regular season, defeat them in the tournament!” WHOA? Marah Dykstra, are you listening? Marah? Oh, never mind, she’s busy making a basket.
Stuff like this, over and over, is unnecessary and highly unprofessional. Tony Parks and Joe Cravens are so easy to listen to (and dispense a lot of basketball knowledge) compared to Redpath and Warren. I will admit Krista “The gris are a momentum team” Redpath has pretty well dropped the “I played for Robin” spiel, but now we find out, that unlike apparently the rest of the NCAA the gris are a momentum team. Momentum (R) has apparently been permantly licensed to the gris.
@rfischer94, now you know why we’d rather listen to your chalk squeaking across the blackboard writing, the limit of the sum from k=1 …![]()
@SACCAT was sitting a couple rows in front of me. He was def mad about missed traveling calls. I thought I saw at least one.
I will never bash another Play-by-Play person, BUT I will say this. as for the Color commentator, The excitement of the call on the griz 3 to give them the lead, should be the same intensity as the Dykstra put-back to win the game... It wasn't. The 3 was proclaimed as "The Biggest shot of her life" and "Legendary" while the Actual Game winner was (in a somber tone) "Yep, it was in time". Those need to match. When I called the Sac State win over MSU, I was just as animated for Sac State shots at the end, as I was for MSU. MSU fans probably HATE that I was, but that is my job.
