Holy ******! I'm still recovering from that game. Wow!

Again they interviewed Esme and then done. Broadcast over. Griz game yesterday they kept the broadcast going for at least 20 minutes.

Redpath sucked that game. I was on my phone so I couldn't switch to another broadcast. She was totally phoning in for the griz. My favorite was after the game she says something to the effect of its so exciting to go to the big dance, I've been there, who do you want to give a shout out to? What was that?
To watch all the postgame interviews and festivities, go back to ESPN+ and find the Courtside program for March 12 for Women’s Basketball. It’s all there.

Redpath was bad, her broadcasting partner Tracy Warren was worse. I can’t really tell them apart, but my wife said it was Tracy doing all the screaming when the gris took the lead. @SACCAT must have been spinning in his recliner. This announcing duo is about as far from neutral as they can be — I’m surprised ESPN doesn’t give them the thumbs down.

I tried to note a few of the bad ones, but my iPhone was overwhelmed. In the first half, Bartsch shot a 3-pointer resulting in the comment (from Tracy?) “Just off the mark!”, when in reality it was a total airball, and not a particularly good one of those, being several feet short and left. Just constant one-sided bending of the facts, making you wonder “What game are they watching?”

During the UM - NAU game Tracy was singing the praises of Sophie Glancey. I just listened to the audio again. She said something like “… everyday, you want Sophie Glancey on your team. Arguably the Conference … umm … Co-MVP.” No argument about it — she wasn’t. They supplied a number of digs at the Bobcat’s Esmeralda Morales, the Conference MVP who lead her team to win, not lose.

At the 7 seconds to go mark, one of them said gleefully, “Amazing. The gris lost to Idaho twice in the regular season, beat them in the tournament. 0-2 against NAU, beat them in the tournament. And now 0-2 against MSU in the regular season, defeat them in the tournament!” WHOA? Marah Dykstra, are you listening? Marah? Oh, never mind, she’s busy making a basket.

Stuff like this, over and over, is unnecessary and highly unprofessional. Tony Parks and Joe Cravens are so easy to listen to (and dispense a lot of basketball knowledge) compared to Redpath and Warren. I will admit Krista “The gris are a momentum team” Redpath has pretty well dropped the “I played for Robin” spiel, but now we find out, that unlike apparently the rest of the NCAA the gris are a momentum team. Momentum (R) has apparently been permantly licensed to the gris.

@rfischer94, now you know why we’d rather listen to your chalk squeaking across the blackboard writing, the limit of the sum from k=1 …
Don't worry -- I use whiteboards now! No chalk squeaking!

@SACCAT was sitting a couple rows in front of me. He was def mad about missed traveling calls. I thought I saw at least one.
HAHA... This was the 2nd game of the year that I got to actually cheer while at an MSU Women's Game. The 1st was Cat/griz in Bozeman. That game was a blow-out, so not a lot of yelling. This one, was different... I have very little voice left. The players asked me after their 1st game if I am more nervous calling a game, and I said HELL NO. When you are calling a game you are so involved in looking at stats, or watching replays and what have you, that it goes by FAST. Sitting in the stands and cheering is 1000 times worse. I have no fingernails left, and I am pretty sure if the refs knew who I was, they would never talk to me again. It was great chatting with @rfischer94 throughout the tourney. Had some really nice compliments from some other fans that came up to say Hi. Appreciate all of them. (Even though my parents think my head grew about 10 sizes). Announcing isn't easy, and I always worry about making sure I am non-biased with every call I do. I would like to call the games in Boise, but my agent hasn't received that call (He is actually just a friend that I now say is my "Agent"). Trust me though, I got texts all week about the Broadcast. Even my wife texted saying "I had to mute the TV".

I will never bash another Play-by-Play person, BUT I will say this. as for the Color commentator, The excitement of the call on the griz 3 to give them the lead, should be the same intensity as the Dykstra put-back to win the game... It wasn't. The 3 was proclaimed as "The Biggest shot of her life" and "Legendary" while the Actual Game winner was (in a somber tone) "Yep, it was in time". Those need to match. When I called the Sac State win over MSU, I was just as animated for Sac State shots at the end, as I was for MSU. MSU fans probably HATE that I was, but that is my job.

I think Grispath may actually be trying to make her commentary impartial, but is too emotionally invested to pull it off. She had some very complimentary things to say about Binford.

The first thing out of her mouth was, “they’re gonna have to look at it to see if she got it off in time.” Like really come on. Like you said the 3 before that, was the biggest shot of her life. Ice running through her veins.

Mara deserved the same recognition.

I wasn't too upset about the traveling no-calls as much as the constant holding of Esme on every off ball screen. They were basically tackling her. gris wanted to muddy it up like ISU does, and they have the shooters to do it, where ISU didn't.

Tom I'm going to disagree with you on the lady griz not belonging. I've followed the team since the first Cat/griz in Missoula. They don't have any bench first of all. I think BH made a mistake in brining Zingaro from Iowa state in. She's slow and she can't keep up. In the middle of the season she was scoring more against bad teams. She didn't play yesterday. They played literally two bench players. Waddington is good. We know who Dani Barsch is. MJ Bruno is good on D and if she's hitting 3's she's dangerous. She hasn't been until yesterday. Mack is one of the best in the league and just the last few games has had some bandages off her hand. Taped up she wasn't driving to the hoop like she did yesterday. She makes that team go. Tyler is good and can shoot 3's but she let's her emotions control her too much. So you have 5 players that can play but have suffered some inconsistencies but you could see Nate working on then through the year. Hear it in his pressers. The game against us he said he hadnt done a good enough job of coaching them to get them to realize you have to guard through the shooting lulls. They weren't mentally tough. I have to believe with a full off season running his own program that changes. I think DB was injured some too. So I'll grant you we're absolutely the better team. I think the griz were capable of being the 3rd best team in the conference. They needed a coach to instill confidence and that took time but they started to click.

Now granted next year will be interesting. No Tyler McCliment-Call. No Dani Barsch. No MJ Bruno. No Izzy Zingaro. All you have back is Mack Konig and Avery Waddington who both belong on lists next year because they're good. That's 4 out of the 6 people that started this year that are gone. Whoever coaches that team better get some good gets coming in.

I completely agree. I refer to her as Krista Grispath. I have heard former players who are very professional. Rebecca Lobo is a good example. She was a star for UConn but does a great job of not showing partiality when covering her alma mater. Kara Lawson played at Tennessee and also did a great job announcing before she took the coaching job at Duke. Krista is in a league of her own. I’m thankful I was at the game but then I had to suffer through the terrible bias when I watched the replay.
Krista Grispath is like the "go gris" Pic -- it will change BN forever!

Is Grista Redpath better though? She tries so hard to sound impartial but she just can't help it when they're playing. She does pretty well when it's a game with two other teams and has plenty of nice things to say about Coach Binford and the MSU program.

Don't believe I have ever seen a "tribute" to one of the announcers like the one with pictures of grista grispath and discussing her career at about 7:45 left in the third quarter. It's bad enough that she's a gris homer, but I don't care squat about her career which has zip to do with the game

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.

Much has been posted about Krista Maroon and Silver Redpath, and it's all well deserved and accurate. As I've said before, she's so much better than she used to be, but it's still a shame that someone better isn't hired to do the color.
While she does comment on each team and their respective players on the floor there are identifiable, measurable, and simply undeniable differences in her color commentary of the lady Griz and the Griz players compared to whatever other team and players are on the floor.

It would really be nice to get a change to a new voice that has a far more even and balanced perspective.

If you're looking for someone with a little authority, I'm your man. I have as little as anyone!

A few random final thoughts on this game and the tournament.

Wow both of these teams had some awesome games leading up to the final game and that championship game was truly one that will be remembered and talked about for years to come. The way it should be, both Montana teams in the Championship game.

It was great to see in the post game interviews how much respect the coaches had for each other and the respect players for both sides had for their rivals.

A peak at the box score showed something that seemed odd to me. Lexi Deden only played 2 minutes in that game. In the previous 6 games she had played double digit minutes with most of those games being in the mid to high teen minutes and averaging 8 points per game. She always plays hard defense and was doing well on offense so the 2 minutes just sticks out. Hmm?

Thanks to all of the posters who've put up the various videos of the game, especially the end of the game from so many different camera angles. Someone said that in the one video it looked like President Crusado ran over and led the band at the end of the game. Does anyone know if that was in fact her? If so, she's simply amazing again.

If you're looking for someone with a little authority, I'm your man. I have as little as anyone!

I didn’t see President Cruzado leading band…but I can attest she was on the floor reveling with the team!!

It too dawned on me last night that I didn't see Lexi in any of the clips.

Keep in mind that:
The figure of speech that means "not in the same league as" is hyperbole, which is an exaggeration used to emphasize a point or create a dramatic effect.

Hyperbole:
An exaggeration or overstatement used for emphasis, not to be taken literally. For example, "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse" is a hyperbole.

If, however, the ncaa ran WBB like the Premier League, then the two teams would no longer be in the same league next year.

Nonetheless, hyperbolically, a 10 D1 win team that suddenly wins 2 of 3 games isn’t in the same league as a 27-3 or 25-6 team. Literally, UM (just like every team in the BSC and NCAA D1) is in the same league/division as MSU and UConn.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Gotcha. Yeah, she didn't play much in the championship game. Only 2 minutes.

Tom please don't insult me. I knew what you meant and I'm pretty sure you knew that. I don't need you to spell out the definition of hyperbole and figure of speech. My argument is that the griz are close to Nau and us in ability when they play to their capabilities brought out by good coaching. Sac State belongs "in the same league" as the Cats and Nau as well even though they finished almost at the bottom of the league, once they got healthy. They beat us. They played NAU really close in the tourney.
