Re: WBB Cat/griz 3.0.....
You made a good point of Griz maybe being 3rd best vs 6th lime they finished in league. Tom's point was they were not in same level of top 2. Their record confirms it, the lack of depth you pointed out confirms it. Heck in NCAA tourney you get 12 seeds and lower pulling an upset or making a little run. But night in and out, those teams would not typically compete in the power conferences.lutecat wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 7:20 amTom please don't insult me. I knew what you meant and I'm pretty sure you knew that. I don't need you to spell out the definition of hyperbole and figure of speech. My argument is that the griz are close to Nau and us in ability when they play to their capabilities brought out by good coaching. Sac State belongs "in the same league" as the Cats and Nau as well even though they finished almost at the bottom of the league, once they got healthy. They beat us. They played NAU really close in the tourney.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 3:39 amKeep in mind that:lutecat wrote: ↑Thu Mar 13, 2025 8:48 pmTom I'm going to disagree with you on the lady griz not belonging. I've followed the team since the first Cat/griz in Missoula. They don't have any bench first of all. I think BH made a mistake in brining Zingaro from Iowa state in. She's slow and she can't keep up. In the middle of the season she was scoring more against bad teams. She didn't play yesterday. They played literally two bench players. Waddington is good. We know who Dani Barsch is. MJ Bruno is good on D and if she's hitting 3's she's dangerous. She hasn't been until yesterday. Mack is one of the best in the league and just the last few games has had some bandages off her hand. Taped up she wasn't driving to the hoop like she did yesterday. She makes that team go. Tyler is good and can shoot 3's but she let's her emotions control her too much. So you have 5 players that can play but have suffered some inconsistencies but you could see Nate working on then through the year. Hear it in his pressers. The game against us he said he hadnt done a good enough job of coaching them to get them to realize you have to guard through the shooting lulls. They weren't mentally tough. I have to believe with a full off season running his own program that changes. I think DB was injured some too. So I'll grant you we're absolutely the better team. I think the griz were capable of being the 3rd best team in the conference. They needed a coach to instill confidence and that took time but they started to click.
Now granted next year will be interesting. No Tyler McCliment-Call. No Dani Barsch. No MJ Bruno. No Izzy Zingaro. All you have back is Mack Konig and Avery Waddington who both belong on lists next year because they're good. That's 4 out of the 6 people that started this year that are gone. Whoever coaches that team better get some good gets coming in.
The figure of speech that means "not in the same league as" is hyperbole, which is an exaggeration used to emphasize a point or create a dramatic effect.
Hyperbole:
An exaggeration or overstatement used for emphasis, not to be taken literally. For example, "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse" is a hyperbole.
If, however, the ncaa ran WBB like the Premier League, then the two teams would no longer be in the same league next year.
Nonetheless, hyperbolically, a 10 D1 win team that suddenly wins 2 of 3 games isn’t in the same league as a 27-3 or 25-6 team. Literally, UM (just like every team in the BSC and NCAA D1) is in the same league/division as MSU and UConn.

Men didn't win. So they take the bus.

I dont know and that hadn't occurred to me until you brought it up. But good question.

Re: WBB Cat/griz 3.0.....
That was a very scary game. Somehow I knew we wouldn't blow them out like the last game but I was hoping for a 10-15 point win. Esme had a fantastic first half but I thought we got a little too one-dimensional down the stretch and to blow a 4-point lead with 50 seconds left was agonizing, especially when any friz foul was two FT's for us. But the gods of March were with us and Marah made the play when we needed it. Great gut check. I think we will be a 12 or 13 seed (likely 13) but we will be huge underdogs. But we are IN and thats all that matters.

Re: WBB Cat/griz 3.0.....
Odd plays for sure down the stretch. Esme has one go off Griz foot but knicks her hand on way out, next possession same drive baseline off her own foot, and 3rd in row she loses track of trailing defender and gets it stolen from behind. Great player but has had some head scratching turnovers that up till then had not really hurt. Marah saved her.84CatGrad wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 8:41 amThat was a very scary game. I just cut-n-pasted that from a search for the saying "not in the same league" as I wanted to make sure no one was taking me literally. Another poster said he was going to Dani B that I said that. Re: WBB Cat/griz 3.0.....
The 15-3 start really helped UM. If they don't get that, then they're probably down by 20 at halftime and it's over. It went from 15-3 to 37-27, so MSU outscored them 34-12 over a long stretch of the game. A stretch that I thought was indicative of the norm for both teams. MSU could've come out flat, re-grouped, then relaxed once it got up 10. UM to their credit came out ready to play, hit some shots and then when it looked like they might fall by the wayside, they regrouped. The fact that it was a Cat-Griz title game really puts it under the microscope. Just like last year in the men's final. Except MSU had a bit of a secret weapon rise up for them and that had people wondering just what might've been had they been using him all year. MSU was a 5-seed last year and proved that they were living a charmed life when they lost to Grambling State in that pre-1st round game.84CatGrad wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 8:41 amThat was a very scary game. I personally don't like Cinderella teams that much unless it's my team. I prefer to see the top two teams play for the championship, but I realize that having Cinderella stories makes me appreciate having 1-2 matchups. I don't like the Yankees or Dodgers. Yankees are my least favorite team, but I wanted to see a NYY vs LAD World Series.
The Lady Griz had games where they flashed all year. They beat UW and gave SoDakSt a good game. They gave MSU a good game sort of in Missoula. They kind of rallied late to make it look close. One player got really hot in the second half to keep them in range. I think that's how it generally went for them. They needed someone or something to have a rare effect on the game for them to pull out a big win or make it close. It's like counting on turnovers or special teams plays to win football games. You just can't expect that every game.

Yeah No s---! Redpath should be banned from announcing Griz games in this tournament. You can hear it in every score just by voice inflection. She can't help herself. Horrible!! She was so hoping out loud that tip-in was after the buzzer.

Instant classic, and I also agree that Nate should have won himself a job this week.MSU01 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 5:34 pmNobody should be throwing around the word "choke" about this game. Unlike the first two Bobcat opponents the Griz came out and played a fantastic game. The Bobcats overcame and made the play at the end to win it. Both teams should be immensely proud to have been involved in that one.

Yep. And also how GREAT was the Griz crowd? Must have heard that 4 times even though our crowd was much bigger and louder at the end.ClowderUp wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 8:51 pmKrista Redpath is the absolute worst. CT repeatedly needing to say something good about the Cats over the top Krista's homer-isms. At one point after a brilliant high-low post exchange for an easy bucket, and in complete disbelieve, she slowly said "the Bobcats showing a little offense". Even the whole NAU semifinal, when not talking about herself and her legendary history at um, she felt the need to voice her opinion that Glancey should have won MVP. There should be serious conversations about removing her from this position next year.lutecat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 5:58 pmShe sounded so dejected at the end of the game. It was quite awesome. I'm also a little surprised they weren't able to stick around another 4 or 5 hours to watch in person.

This is one of those games I'm glad I was there....similar to the 2018 Cat/Griz football (Bobcats Hold!!).....from total despair to total elation...incredible finish and now Marah has etched her name in the Bobcat history books....
And hats off to Nate and the Grizzlies...I kept expecting them to run out of gas...but they kept coming....Nate deserves the HC job....

I was wondering why they didn't stay for women's game as well.
Heard someone from Athletics on Ksky in Bozeman Thursday morning. The men would have flown home if they played in Championship game. They left early so had to bus because no charter.
