I believe it was a 2-year contract and not a 3-year contract, but your point is correct. The multi-year contract offer was a terrible decision, when a 1-year contract would have been more appropriate if they wanted to give him one last year with an experienced returning team to make something happen.rtb wrote:So let me get this straight. So this 3 year contract that Huse got was something all outsiders looking in didn't agree with at the time, yet somehow as fans and boosters we are going to be the ones that pay for the mistake when this really should be coming straight out of the pocket/s of those that were crazy enough to sign Huse to a 3 year extension when the program was headed south.
This is pretty disappointing to me as a fan and booster. It's that age old adage that they will spend whatever you give them and keep asking for more. I personally don't want to pay for bad decisions such as this one and I am guessing a lot of you guys don't want to either, but I'm sure they'll get it out of most folks via football tickets and donations.
I wish I had a contract with my employer where I could do my job correctly less than 1/2 the time and when they wanted to fire me they let me "resign" and wrote me a check for another years worth of salary. Turns out academics and government are operating in their own reality.
Ok - I'll get off my soap box now, but I had to vent about the stupidity of giving a bad coach a 3 year contract extension and then asking for his resignation.

Re: Huse Resigned!!!
I agree that he shouldn't have been given an extension. But it would be very bad form to force him out and renege on his contract. I posted before that the coaches at MSU are not paid at the same level as their peers. If you want to hang with the big dogs it might be wise to raise the base salaries enough to get the better coaches in here. If not patience is necessary and expectations should be lowered. I know that there are exceptions to this but they are rare and the coaches leave for greener pastures. I'd love to see Durham come back and if not then I'd try to get Sprinkle. They understand the culture of the state and would have a leg up on other guys from out of state.

Yesterday I felt like everyone was taking crazy pills. I have never seen a college coach resign and still be paid the remainder of his contract. Something stinks to high hell here.
I don't understand why Peter is getting a pass on this one. He shouldn't have given Huse another year last year IMO, but I am not interested in debating that. But more so, his poor leadership decision to give Brad two yrs instead of just one has left the Bobcats down $135k.
MSU has several Million dollars going into the Fieldhouse this summer, and if nothing changed their would have been no one there to see it next winter. We needed to make a change, and I am happy they did. But how is no one upset at the fact it cost us $135k that it shouldn't have to make that change.
I can only hope that Cruzado has a piece of Peter's butt for this screw up.

Wow, PF sure has a way with words, doesn't he?“I will consider all candidates,” Fields said. “We will look at everybody. You have to look at everybody. When you are looking at them through a different light, you see a different person when you are looking at them through a different light. We will look at everybody and give everybody a good look and evaluation.”

That was Madden-esque!

I'm wondering how the contract/buyout is written. If he were to take a job such as that would he get paid by MSU--so essentially he'd be making 2 salaries for one year?Gus 2 wrote:Rumor from west of here for what its worth:

Don Holst back to the Griz ... a big no unless Tinkle takes a another job very late in the off season, even then I doubt it.Gus 2 wrote:Rumor from west of here for what its worth:

There is no way that Holst is back to the griz. They fired him the year he actually went to the dance. Never going to happen. Even if Tinkle takes another job, it will not go to Holst.mslacat wrote:Don Holst back to the Griz ... a big no unless Tinkle takes a another job very late in the off season, even then I doubt it.Gus 2 wrote:Rumor from west of here for what its worth:

I doubt the university system would allow that, unless the buyout was a lump sum, then maybe a possibility.LTown Cat wrote:I'm wondering how the contract/buyout is written. Ken Bone is being payed the remainder of his contract which had 2 years @ $850,000 left. I don't think that just goes away if he's hired again.

Peter Fields should pay the $ out of his own pocket. Otherwise, PF should be fired. Other than our football program, which hopefully is better than last year's woeful 7-5 season, what does Fields have to show?

Re: Huse Resigned!!!
Would people be giving Fields praise if he would have "fired" Huse at any point during the season ?
Almost all of the minor sports are competitive in the BSC. VB was very very young in 2013. Indoor T&F had a disappointing finish but they had alot of points missing on red-shirts that will be back for outdoor. Skiing finished 9th in the Nation. CC both finished 3rd. Crawford won the Big Sky champ. in golf . Tennis???????????? Can athletics overall get better? Sure.

Re: Huse Resigned!!!
I think for people who are still upset with it all comes down to him giving Huse the extension last year instead of doing what he did this year. I do not think letting Huse go mid season would change their mind what so ever. If anything I think it would have ticked people off more.Hawks86 wrote:Would people be giving Fields praise if he would have "fired" Huse at any point during the season ?

If Huse had made the tournament he would still be the coach, that was not decided till the last few games.

Re: Huse Resigned!!!
I have wondered the same thing. The two things that forced Fields hand, I am told, was attendance (which would not have changed) and fan/booster outcry. I think little would have changed if MSU had squeeked into the tourney lost big time in our first game. If MSU had played up to their potential and finished out the season stronger and had a respectable tourney that may have given Huse and Fields more cover.allcat wrote:If Huse had made the tournament he would still be the coach, that was not decided till the last few games.

I'm just waiting for Fields to weasel around and voice self rationalizing comments until he gives Huse grounds for a lawsuit. That wouldn't be the first time.

Re: Huse Resigned!!!
Huse resigned...offically anyway, so he would have no grounds for a lawsuit. That's probably why he got the money for the second year of his contract, since he likely wouldn't have agreed to step down otherwise. And PF didn't have the stones to just fire him, in which case Huse would have also been entitled to the the money for the 2nd year.Cat8191 wrote:I'm just waiting for Fields to weasel around and voice self rationalizing comments until he gives Huse grounds for a lawsuit. Re: Huse Resigned!!!
http://bobcatblog.bozemandailychronicle.com/?p=12316" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It begs the question: Why did MSU sign Huse to an extension after 2012-13? According to two sources, Fields wanted to move on and had a coaching staff in place but was told by MSU president Waded Cruzado to give Huse an extension. Missing the Big Sky tournament was the golden ticket, per se, that allowed Fields to make the move.
Where does MSU go from here?
