Yes, I noticed that Casey Jones intensionally brushed shoulders with him and probably said something. He is a bit of a trash talker. I like his agressive game; I don't like his trash talk. He tries to get under the skin of guys he is guarding. I suppose a lot of players do that. I think he takes it too far sometimes. I'm sure that is what happened, but your player didn't react well to it. From the replays, we can't tell what was said by those involved, but I'm sure the official heard what was said after the swipe. The official jumped in between them and other players on the floor held him off. The way I understand it, the official did not call it a garden variety flagrant foul, he called fighting. The results are mostly the same as a flagrant 2, but could differ with reguard to a one game suspension. That part I'm not sure about. I would think there would be some sort of anouncement on it today.tetoncat wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 8:31 amDid you happen to notice the inital contact from EWU player?. I think it was a push back from that, probably flagrant 1, should have been a 2. Caitlin Clark push/slapped a girl yesterday harder than that and didn't get anything goldrunner wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 9:36 pmI heard that you had a player sent off for fighting. I watched that play a couple of times and your player did seem to take a swipe at Jones and then kind of squared off on him. I was told that the official called it fighting and sent him off. Does anybody know what the consequences are now for fighting. I know that it used to be that they were barred for the next game as well. Is that still true?
That is not something that a player or team would want to get a reputation for. I'm guessing that your coach will want to get a handle on that situation, even if the BSC does not. I would think that it would only bring more officiating attention to your team in the future and to that player in particular. At least it didn't become a bench clearing brawl. I've seen that happen before.

True! Seems like their teams are always “chippy” regardless of the outcome.catatac wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:38 pmI don't remember it being much of a contest last year - I think we beat them by over 40.Bocephus wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:29 pmIts always a heated match, same with football.marceag wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 11:27 amMSU Played really well Saturday, very impressed.
I think the ejection was too much, it warranted a Tech but not an ejection.
Casey Jones is a good guy, he gets in players heads, like Saturday, and I think the googles throw off how good and athletic he really is and it frustrates opponents...
They game was very physical on both ends. Besides the ejection calls were bad (and good) on both sides. MSU had 5 more fouls than EWU, which isn't lopsided and MSU took a lot more outside shots than EWU, so you would expect the FT difference for that reason.
I wouldn't be surprised to see these teams match up in the semis next week in Boise...Good luck until then...

Weber favored by 4.5 over the Cats, Griz favored by 9.5 over ISU tonight.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

Jones is good at gamesmanship. He bumps guys with his shoulder during dead balls, throws the little elbows, bumps guys as he pretends not to see him. Flops dramatically when players do the same to him. It works great until the refs get on to him, then you wonder why he isn't getting any calls. Brandon Walker does some of the same stuff but isn't nearly as good at it yet. Some guys like to play the villain. Meanwhile, if you're from the University of Montana you can send a player to the hospital and it's nothing more than an intentional foul (Flagrant 1).marceag wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2024 11:27 amMSU Played really well Saturday, very impressed.

Watched the game on my iPad which has that Retina screen and you can see things super-clearly. I wish the refs would use something comparable. When I saw Patterson walk away from the EWU jerk’s flop job, he was wringing his right hand and looking at it. I went back and took a close look at that play, and then I saw what knocked the ball loose and ignited Tyler’s fury. When Tyler leaned over and grabbed the ball, Eastern Washington’s dirtiest player in the Big Sky kicked Patterson in the hand, causing the ball to come loose before continuing his leg sweep. Meanwhile he showed the refs his perfectly angelic defensive position and his hands. I was so hoping the refs would see what happened (they may have) and then called the technical on Mr. Dirty. I am so happy we have the players we do.tetoncat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 9:42 pmWell it won the game for them, he swings his leg into Patterson and when Patterson lifts up he fails to ground, Patterson T, Logie T and all of a sudden 6 free throws when Cats were making a run. It ended up deciding the game.
So horribly officiated. Why can't the Big Sky let teams play like big time conferences do. Ticky Tack crap and we end up not having best players at end of games. At least they are consistently bad.

I’d like to see a lot more of Olmsted. He did everything that could have been asked of him today. He passes well, he gets low post to high and back again quickly. Sets great screens. He did well around the basket and even knocked down a three. He plays with his head in the game. Too bad he hasn’t gotten more minutes during his last year. More Olmsted, please. Sorry if I missed it, but where was Nduka?

Re: MBB @ EWU
Thanks, guys. I remember seeing the boot but never related it to Nduka. Hope he heals quickly, very disappointing to a player right before the tournament. But if it helped “discover” Olmsted, it might have been helpful in the long run. Olmsted certainly brings a different look to the game, and I can think of a few games where he might have been quite useful. It’s really hard to coach anyone up to have his length and wingspan. I think he shows some things that reflect his time (mostly practicing) in a bigger program.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 8:35 pmLogie said on Cat Chat tonight that he sprained his ankle in the Idaho game on Thursday.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 7:08 pmIn street clothes in a walking boot.
