Will McMahon be back for you guys? He should have seen the court a lot more and I’m certain he thinks so too.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 9:00 pmWell, the run was bound to come to an end at some point. Thanks to the seniors and get ready for another brand new roster next year with six graduating seniors and (one assumes) at least a couple fairly obvious portal departures. Jed and Pat will be a nice core to build around, they'll need to lead the team next season.

He has one more year of eligibility as he was able to get a medical redshirt last season. Will he be back? Always a question mark with the transfer portal but I'd guess it's likely he will be. He was fourth on the team in terms of minutes played so I doubt he's too upset about playing time. He definitely improved a lot as the season went on which makes sense after missing most of two full seasons due to injury.HookedOnGriz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 10:31 pmWill McMahon be back for you guys? Last time a BSC team won a 1st-round NCAA tourney game was the Griz in 2006. Indeed, it’s a rare accomplishment.iaafan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 9:58 pmWhen a BSC men’s team looks like a legit second round big dance team lmk. There’s not a BSC team that deserves to be on the same floor as any 1-4 seed. MSU couldn’t even get past a 16-16 matchup with Granbling last year. Gross.

Danny never had to deal with the full force of the portal + NIL and he never had to deal with Sprinkle taking another NCAA tournament team to another school.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 9:35 pmDanny Sprinkle finished 5th and 5th with no NCAA appearances in his first two seasons and he's a Bobcat legend. I guess we're all pretty disappointed at how the team lost tonight. Next year will indeed be crucial, as Sprinkle was able to do in Year 3 Logie will need to figure out how to translate the short bursts of great play into something that can be sustained over a full season without the losing streaks and generally poor road performance we saw this year.

Give Logie a chance. We had a shot at Ryan Looney at the same time. I think we got the pick of the litter.

Exactly. Danny said he left because of the portal and in effect wanted to be somewhere with the resources to buy players.Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 3:33 amDanny never had to deal with the full force of the portal + NIL and he never had to deal with Sprinkle taking another NCAA tournament team to another school.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 9:35 pmDanny Sprinkle finished 5th and 5th with no NCAA appearances in his first two seasons and he's a Bobcat legend. Logie better be hitting the portal hard as he has some big shoes to fill this next year. He is gonna need 3 to 4 portal guys who can play right away. I am not sold on his one on one style of play yet. He needs to find a big that can pick and roll as well as board. Also one that is a team player.
Also great year for Sam and Patrick they will be missed as its been a pleasure to watch them play the last few years!

Patrick has one more year of eligibility if he chooses to utilize it. Last year was a medical redshirt for him since he was injured so early on in the season.GrizgradCatFan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 5:35 amLogie better be hitting the portal hard as he has some big shoes to fill this next year. I love basketball too much to have a salty opinion like this. It's so hard to have a game like the first night when the Cats couldn't miss, everyone was firing on all cylinders, and it was a record performance. Looked like they were going to make another run at the championship, and I'm sure the whole team and coaches believed that. Then last night happened and what a horrible way to end the season. I mean losing is one thing but yikes! Can't buy a basket, coach gets ejected, stats end up the worst of the whole season, just an epic breakdown. Very sad.
IMO, Walker is portaling out. Something happened.
Okay season, one incredible performance, start the rebuild. Go Cats!

What was rare was the matchup. Nevada, 5 seed, was the worst first round opponent that any BSC team has faced in the last 50 years or so. They played a soft non-conference slate with the only notable win being vs Kansas, which lost in the first round. The Griz somehow got a 12 seed despite not winning the regular season and going just 10-4 in the BSC. The BSC will never get a 12 seed again. The last seriously good team out of the BSC was Weber State in 1999 when they had The Show and Gill.OldGriz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 10:39 pmLast time a BSC team won a 1st-round NCAA tourney game was the Griz in 2006. Seems like he has brought in Bigs but they rarely see the floor. Maybe he does it so main group can go against them in practice, because it seems lime his offense preferences don't utilize a big. Other than Olmsted late last year.GrizgradCatFan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 5:35 amLogie better be hitting the portal hard as he has some big shoes to fill this next year. That was sure a great run while it lasted. It wasn’t that long ago where I would hope we could win a game or two in the tournament, and now it’s a disappointment when we lose in the semifinals. The program has come a long way!
Now the yearly rebuild begins. Unfortunately this is the new reality for Big Sky teams. I’d guess there will be 9-10 new faces on the team next year based on graduation/portal departures. Frustrating that it will be impossible to build a program at this level, since most talented players will want to move up, and well be left with players who didn’t have success at a power 5 school and high school players looking for a stepping stone. I guess we need to keep our fingers crossed that we hit portal gold next year.
I wish the NCAA would re-think NIL, but that’s obviously not happening. Unfortunately they’ve pretty much ruined basketball for the low mid-major conferences.

The one big that did rarely found himself inside the 3 pt line. Would not be surprised to see Rutherford and Kolly leave in the offseason. Have a feeling were going to be woefully undersized the next couple years.tetoncat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 8:03 amSeems like he has brought in Bigs but they rarely see the floor. Re: MBB vs UNC
I won't pile on too much. Last night is what it is; a complete disaster.
For me, I'm just not sold on whatever "offense" we're running. All season long I just never feel like I saw a consistent, fluid offense. And I'm not talking about missed shots, that is going to happen. It just seems so stagnant and messy for me all of the time. UNC and UM have much better movement and spacing than we do. Hell even Idaho seemed to have a much more complex offense that allowed dribble-drive and wide open shots. Working the high low. All teams seemed to have much more athleticism than we had.
I'm not calling for Logies' job or anything. I'm always a fan of giving a coach time. But fair or not, next season is going to be a big one for him. We need to show we can put the same kind of athletes and shooters on the floor than our conference peers and it sure didn't look like we had that this year.

Correct, the BSC is barely relevant for basketball, currently ranked 24 out of 31 in conference RPI. I'm actually surprised it's ranked that high.iaafan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 9:58 pmWhen a BSC men’s team looks like a legit second round big dance team lmk. And no one is asking or expecting Coach Logie to take a team deep into March. But, expectations are, and should be, for him to put a highly competitive team on the floor to compete for BSC Championships (regular season and tourney). He has the resources to do that in the Big Sky Conference. All of his coaching peers deal with the portal and NIL. This year's team was nowhere close to that level and so the disappointing season. I don't see anyone calling for his job. It's too early for that imo. But next year will be important to see marked progress towards building a program that annually competes for titles. Mediocrity should no longer be ok for Bobcat Basketball! Great kids I'm sure, but this team was not very good.
Go Cats!

I think one reason we led in attendance was because we were picked preseason to win the Big Sky. I have a feeling that attendance will regrettably decline next season.
