Anyone Else Bored at Mens Basketball Games?
Does anyone else think the games are pretty boring during timeouts and at halftime? I realize I'm there for basketball but its pretty old seeing the same fan games year after year, decade after decade.
I have to give props to the new Champ, he did a good job of getting around, my kids love Champ.
Her are a couple of ideas:
Take a bunch of kids' shoes and dump them at center court. Have the kids all start at the baseline and run to center court, find their shoes, put them on, and run to the other side.
Have food eating contests.
Relay races where there is actually some challenge to them.
4-5 year olds race bigwheels.
Blindfold a few fans, have them search for prizes on the court.
My son plays in the Belgrade Pep Band, I bet they'd love playing at the games when the Cat Pep Band is no there.
Anyone else agree? Time for MSU to step it up a little.

The GRIZ, a quarter century of total football dominance over the cats.

Put people in Sumo Suits and let them wrestle for a while. Good fun!
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

During exhibition season, we kept everything at a bare minimum, so please don't judge basketball season by what's gone on so far. Thanks for the ideas--I know our marketing people read the board and appreciate all the input.

I'm not bored at all, but I wish the fans would get more into it. I don't think it is so much the fault of the marketing department as it is just lackluster fans.

Absolutely! I think the main reason that the atmosphere at basketball games isn't what it used to be is because there are less people in the stands. That being said, here are a few suggestions I have:CelticCat wrote:I'm not bored at all, but I wish the fans would get more into it. 1) Have a live pep band whenever possible. I realize it's a lot to ask of the MSU band to appear at every game, but could we call up the local high schools and see if they would like to bring their pep bands to one or two games a year? In my opinion, music from a live band is vastly superior to recorded stuff.
2) A contest in which someone has to make a half-court shot to win a prize is much more exciting than a free-throw shooting contest.
3) I always enjoyed the "Go for Dough" game, where a few blindfolded people were put on the court and the crowd tried to guide them towards the prize. Another game from the past I liked was when people in sumo suits had to try to make a basket.

Just in case people don't know: the MSU band does not appear during non-conference basketball season, except for one game this year: Nevada. Their class description for this semester is marching band and we don't get a pep band until the second semester. We've tried getting local school bands to come in, but nobody seems to be interested as they are all busy with their own sport contests and other commitments.
