cat - griz? you know it's sad....

Post by ilovethecats » Sat Jan 29, 2011 3:50 pm

....when the team is playing so poorly that just hours before tipoff against the griz we have zero talk about the game....and multiple threads about stadium expansion. #-o not knocking anyone on here, it's just frustrating watching the team struggle again and like always fan interest is almost non-existent halway through regular season.

despite what we witnessed a week ago and especially on tuesday i still have hopes for this game. we are clearly the worse team but i don't think we'll see a team play as bad as they have the last couple games. if we do we'll lose by double digits again. i think if we attack the basket and draw fouls rather than launch threes it will benefit us greatly. i say draw fouls because it doesn't do us any good to get in close range only to throw up some prayer that gets smashed back in our faces or tied up. if we're gonna go in the lane, we need to make sure we draw contact and get their bigs out of the game with foul trouble. we're just outmatched in that area and need to make them as little of a factor as possible.

i mentioned this on egriz but i like how we defended last week. we doubled down, and made cherry beat us from deep. unfortunately he made us pay by knocking down a couple early but i still think that was the right d. even after our game his shooting percentage from there is 27%. our odds are much better letting him shoot jumpers than they are letting selvig and qvale go one on one.

in the end, i think if we get off to a good start, take care of the ball, and be the aggressor we can win this game. my hope is the fan support is much better than it appears it is going to be because the guys sure could use a little support to get out to a fast start.

Griz 64-60.

And as an aside, I have to say that every time I listen to the bobcat women's PBP guy, I have to laugh at comments you guys always make about the Griz announcers being biased. That guy is so ridiculous that it's as if we're not even watching the same game.

I've never claimed that those guys are great. But compared to this dude, they are as impartial as a judge.

I don't care how impartial you are if you are that ignorant of the conference your team belongs to. I wouldn't trust that person announcing a middle school basketball game.

Great job by the cat scorekeeper of icing Kenzie on the final FTs (what did it take, 4 minutes to put an additional second on the clock??).

Had he really wanted to do something he would have stopped the clock to allow Cole to take the last shot. Sell the conspiracy theory somewhere else.

Why do I need to sell anything?? The Lady Griz won.

I don't think it was a conspiracy. I simply think the scorekeeper's an idiot.

I trust that the scorekeeper is an idiot as GinW is an expert in such things.

Same start to the game as in Missoula. I think I'll be finding something else to watch pretty quickly here.

Might I suggest paint drying? I can't believe I cancelled a root canal to watch this game.

That one tall ref missed BLATANT travels on Selvig for picking up his pivot foot. He did it twice in once stance and missed it right in front of him. Missed another pivot foot travel on the griz PG. Bad.
Our defense is bad too. At one point Qvale walked right up to the basket with the ball between ALL 5 OF OUR PLAYERS! Good Lord that was a tough second half to watch. Our offense had no rhythm in the second half either. I don't know what they can do to improve, but it's a little lackluster. :(

Dear coach Huse. Your offense sucks.

That is all.

Every year its the same thing. I cant watch because I know we don't have the tools to win but they pull me in by playing above their level for the first part of the season. Then they crash like something completely expected... I want to get into the team and i just can't.

At least they showed some effort this time around and freshmen players Budinich, Reid, and Tre Johnson look promising. Not having a center that can match up with Selvig or Qvale down low definitely hurts.

This team has no offensive or defensive identity. They are playing hard though for the most part..

Reid might be the bright spot for the year. He continues to impress me. Hopefully he and the rest of the youngsters keep progressing. They could be good.

I do have to tip my hat to Tinkle. Pains me to say it but I think that program looks very good.

Very frustrating to watch, we made a lot of stupid plays/decisions. The unforced turnovers were mind blowing (and a lot of them by our seniors). I would have rather seen the young guys come in and play. Selvig played great...there is no way we can compete with their size, and our lack of size. Our one big guy does not even deserve to play in this league (IMO), I know he is hurt, but I have never been impressed. I sure hope we can find a serviceable big guy next year. I hate to say it, but I am hoping the griz make it to the big tourney, because with those two big guys, I think they have a chance to make some noise.
