Lady Cats vs EWU

Post by bpcats » Thu Feb 24, 2011 8:31 pm

Good game so far.

MSU 26
EWU 27 6:39 left in first half

Seidensticker started off hot.

I think down the stretch that the team is really missing Chelsea Banis. EWU is pounding the boards with their tall team.

Lady Cats put on a small run doing a better job getting on the boards and head into the half with a 10 point lead.

MSU 40
EWU 30

Up 40-30 at half, close out the half strong.

Big win for the Cats.

Seidensticker and Balian led the way with big nights.

Bussey didn't score a lot but had 7 assists as EWU double teamed her most of the night.

MSU is now tied for 1st with Northern Colorado since Portland State beat UM.

MSU 70
EWU 56

It was a really nice effort for the Cats tonight. Sarah Balian and Lyndi Seidensticker had really strong games, and the team survived the effort by a very physical EWU team. I thought it was strange that Katie Bussey didn't score too many points, but her assists were great. It's going to be interesting to see how the game with Portland State plays out on Saturday and the return trip next week. I'm very excited about this team though, and this is one group of girls that just isn't going to quit.

http://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/sp ... 002e0.html That's my story, and the blog will be up this afternoon/evening.
Lyndi played spectacular, Balian was solid and Semansky had a double-double quietly. I'll say this again in the blog - and there's informal poll results with it - but if you had said Bussey wouldn't score a field goal until roughly four minutes left (or less) in the game and almost 30 minutes would go by before she had as many field goal attempts as walk-on Mary Anderson, I'd have said "I bet all my possessions and every cent I own."
But she played a heck of an overall game as a decoy, per se, and six assists by halftime. She finished with seven, which is tied for her career high. The team had 17 assists, but also had 19 giveaways. I'll have more in the postgame blog.

They were glued to Bussey most of the night, she had a hard time finding any open looks at all.

Great job ladies, and keep up the good work for the balance of the season. It sure would be cool if they can hang on to first place, and host the BSC tourney.

Way to go Lady Cats. Fantastic season, especially considering they have played most of the season short-handed. Let's finish this thing off and host the tourney!

I know that "it is what it is", but I can't help but think about how good this team could have been, if they had Albert and Banis.

Yeah, I think they may have been unstoppable. But it is very interesting and cool how this team really bonded after the injuries started. They could have easily just phoned it in, but it seems each week there's always one or two of the gals stepping up and leading this team to victory. You can definitely sense the closeness these ladies have for one another and they are each gonna do their damnedest not to let each other down.

How great would it be, for MSU to take down UM at The Brick, in the BSC tourney title game!!??

What needs to happen for them to host? Obniously they need to keep winning but does anyone need to lose in order to guarantee hosting the turney?

With the top 4 teams separated by a single game, it's probably impossible to accurately predict how the tie-breakers may shake out. I think there's still way too much left to be determined, to be able to make any sort of predictions about tie-breakers at this point. And let's not get ahead of ourselves, since MSU has three tough games still remaining, and is unlikely to win out IMHO. I would be very happy if they get 2 out of 3. With 4 teams either 10-3 or 9-4, and 3 of those 4 teams all playing each other for their final 3 games, the rest of the season should be very interesting.

MSU and UNC are both 10-3 and UM and PSU are both 9-4. MSU plays PSU at home, and EWU and PSU on the road. UM plays EWU at home, and EWU and PSU on the road. UNC has the easiest schedule, playing NAU at Flagstaff, and then ISU both home and away. ISU is tied for 5th at 7-6, so they might be able to beat UNC at home, but UNC is likely to win at least 2 of their remaining 3 games, and might get all 3. Realistically, it's probably a long shot for MSU to host the tourney, but you never know. The tie-breaker between MSU and UNC is probably still to be determined, based upon the results of the remaining games, since they split against each other. It's not unthinkable that all 4 teams could wind up tied at 12-4.

Actually, it is since UM and PSU both have four losses and play each other again. ;) UNC is probably the favorite to host at this point, with MSU having a tougher schedule. Hopefully MSU could get lucky with tiebreakers if it comes to that after losing out on hosting to Weber in '02 and '03.
