Mt Rushmore of Bobcat Women's Basketball
Lets give the women so love for a change, I want to know who you think should be on the "Mt. Rushmore of Bobcat Women's Basketball". We are going with five faces becuase it is my idea and thats how many I want. Football season is still a week or so away so you should be able to squeeze a few brain cells to come up with a five names. You can use any method/critira you wish to come up with your list, but if you want to be taken seriuosly you probably will need to have "Big Red" and "The Pride of Hysham".

Re: Mt Rushmore of Bobcat Women's Basketball
My first nomination that stands out to me would be Cass Bauer who played under Judy Spoelstra from around 90-95. Shannon Cate and the Lady Griz were as dominant as ever. Cass developed into quite the force during her time at MSU and I was always thought the pivotal player that allowed the Cats to win Big Sky conference championship during that period.

Re: Mt Rushmore of Bobcat Women's Basketball
I guess with mine I would have a tough time putting anyone from 2000 - 2011 on the list I think you would have to wait to see how their career numbers hold up. Looked up alltime records
Mine
Kathleen McLaughlin Howard 82-86 Holds alltime scoring record and rebound record + 25 years
Cass Baur top five in numerous categories + 20 years
Lynn Andrew Single Season scoring record holder and in top 10 other stats for + 20 years and only here two years
Vickie Heebner Carle second alltime scoring leader before 3 pointer and played two years with McLaughlin
Marci Topp all time leading scorer until Heebner and McLaughlin came along still #3 on scoring list for last 30 years
I'm sure someone else I am forgetting so I reserve the right to adjust or admend but I believe MT Rushmore should be based on longevity

Re: Mt Rushmore of Bobcat Women's Basketball
I can go with your list. I wanted to get Mercer in there becuase I think she is the best Bobcat basketball player in the past 10 or more years. As far as Flock goes it is hard to argue with her career of the opinion Mr. Domako (and fellow Missoula Cat) but I am not willing to take anyone else off so I can put her on. That is just my opinion though, and totally respect anyone who would find a way to get Flock in the top five.4everacatfan wrote:I guess with mine I would have a tough time putting anyone from 2000 - 2011 on the list I think you would have to wait to see how their career numbers hold up. By the way if they had had the three point shot in the late 70 and 80's I wonder where Heebner and Topp would rank on the all time scoring list, I don't remember McLaughin taking many threes, do you 4everacatfan. Additionally I believe Marcia Topp only played three years for the Bobcats (transferring in if I remember right) which makes her 3rd place all time leading scorer rank even more impressive.

If there was a 3 point line McLaughlin would not be the record holder. She was a post ten feet and in. I'm not sure that Heebner would have caught Topp. If I remember correctly she (topp) shot the ball waaaay out. And was very accurate. I still find it amazing the top two scorers played two years together.mslacat wrote:I can go with your list. Question on the Nation currently about where Katie Bussey stands in all time scoring. Katie has 1190 points heading into her senior year and is already the all time 3 FGM record holder. Katie needs to average 21.2 ppg to pass Kathleen McLaughlin during the regular season. 16.9 ppg to pass Vicki Heebner for 2nd and 12.6 ppg to pass Kati Burrows for 3rd.

I'd be happy with just Katie Bussey on it seeing as tho she's the most gorgeous to ever don a Lady Cat jersey.

Re: Mt Rushmore of Bobcat Women's Basketball
The question is, do we go by leaders of best team in terms of win-loss or by popularity. I'm going to skew present in my Mt. Rushmore, which has five faces.
Kathleen McLaughlin/Howard
Cass Bauer
Rebecca Mercer
Katie Bussey
Sarah Balian
Looking at numbers, career, etc. Lynn Andrew is sixth on my list. Let me explain, for all those who care to look at my list and say "Two of those didn't start playing until 2007." and "You're picking players you've covered." (Which is true on both counts). I'm not going to say anything about toughness or heart or whatever, that's based on emotion and what someone sees and, let's face it, I've only seen two of these Mt. Rushmore players play.
Bussey will at least finish in the top four in scoring all-time (my guess is she'll be top 3) and will blow the 3-point records (made, attempted also I think) out of the water. However, she isn't just a triple specialist - drives to the hoop, gets to the line, plays defense and hands down was the emotional leader of the program for two years (I'm counting junior and senior), maybe three. (I pause to bring that up because then being an emotional leader can be considered in the vein of toughness, heart, etc. Still, it's that important to this argument, I think). In the past 2 years, she's been part of a team which went to the Big Sky tournament finals and Bussey was the one whose last-second heave was thisclose to giving MSU homecourt advantage and allowing me to cover a Big Sky women's tournament for the first time.
On to Balian. 1K-plus points, top 10 and I think top 5 - don't have the numbers in front of me - in 3s as well. Scores down low, mid-range and from distance. Top 2 in games played in school history. Countless crucial buckets (like Bussey, which I failed to mention). And that's even before we get to the rebounding (both offensively and defensively) and - the block party. Single-season blocks leader, career blocks leader and I seriously bet she changed the trajectory of at least 100 shots in her career. Now that would be a great statistic to figure out.
In other news, the MSU women's schedule will be out soon. By Sunday night, I will have a blog up of the non-conference schedule. If you want a sneak peek, check out MSU on Twitter (@msuwbb) or MSU's Facebook page to get that info. I plan on getting back to some men's stuff for the blog by Sept. 1

I've never posted on this side of the board as my life has been consumed by football lately. But to answer your question, Bussey has scored 1,190 points heading into her senior season and is MSU's all-time leader in 3-point field goals made already. To pass Kati Burrows for third place, she would have to average 12.6 points per game next season. To move into second place ahead of Vicki Heebner, she would have to averaged 16.9 points per game. To become MSU's all-time leading scorer, she would have to put up 21.2 ppg her senior season. Thanks to the stat man (and former MSU women's bball beat writer) Gidal Kaiser for the killer stats.

My top five:
1.)Kathleen McLaughlin Howard aka. "Arguably" - Her stats speak for themselves
2.)Blythe Hommes - I believe she is the only league MVP the Lady Cats have had
3.)Cass Bauer - Best player on what was probably the best Lady Cats team
4.)Sara Flock - Great player on a not so great team. Teams focused completely on her ans she still go hers.
5-7) Heebner, Andrews, Bussey
