After pulling up the record book from Bigskyconf.com... Bussey set a school record and tied a conference record with 41 points tonight vs. league leading Idaho State. She ties two of the most prolific scorers in conference history: Shannon Cate and Kelsey Kahle.

Great Job Katie!

This is perhaps made even more impressive by the fact that Bussey was coming off a 2-10 shooting game for 4 points against EWU last Saturday. Congrats to Katie and a big win that keeps MSU in with an outside shot to share the regular season title. ISU (1 loss) and EWU (2 losses) have not played each other yet. MSU has a tough task ahead of them coming back to play a rested Lady Griz team though...just when you thought the Big Sky Conference couldn't screw up basketball scheduling any worse than they have in the past.... #-o

Bussey may have a shot at moving into 3rd place on the all time scoring list at MSU but she would have to explode in a few more games to get close. I believe she was 4-7 from the 3 point line which should put just 1 behind 3rd place (233 made) on the Big Sky all time list for 3 pointers made.. 238 is the Big Sky conference record so Katie should be able make 7 more three pointers sometime during the rest of her senior year.

She sure is fun to watch play. Just a natural scorer from anywhere on the court, which we needed tonight. The Bobcat offense is usually pretty balanced but tonight it was give it to Katie and get out of the way...

Also congrats to Coach Binford in becoming the winningest coach in Ladies basketball at MSU with 99 victories..just passed Judy Spoelstra. She has done a terrific job with the ladies program.

It is nuts how competitive the Ladies side of the conference is. Even Weber State who is 0-8 in conference play has given us all that we can handle, and took ISU to OT themselves. Comes down to who is on the hot shooting streak for the night.

Katie Bussey is just an awesome player. I might as well get it out of the way..she's really cute. Besides for that, she has one of the smoothest shots that I've seen in the men's or women's game. That three-point shot is usually lethal, and it's great to see her bounce back from a 4-point game. The nice thing about this women's team is how balanced they are. Maybe everybody can score 41 points in the next game.

As for handing ISU their first loss in overtime on their floor, that takes quite an effort. It sounds like they dominated the overtime period. It's going to be tough for the ladies coming back on the bus tonight, attending class tomorrow morning, and then preparing for the Lady Griz, but a win like this should be a nice springboard.

Also, congratulations to Coach Binford for becoming MSU's winningest women's basketball coach. I haven't always agreed with how she's coached and who she's played, but after that first year, the results are there. She's done an excellent job with this program and I'm looking forward to win #100 on Saturday afternoon!

Wow!! Congrats Katie Bussey. What a game. 11-23 from the field; 15-18 FTs; 4-7 3ptrs. 41 points. And it comes on a night when her team is down 14 points. Must've been an awesome show.

It's great to see a basketball team at MSU that is actually improving. Congrats to coach Binford. I hope we get to keep her here for a while.

Maybe I'm making a math mistake but the 41 points and the stat line doesn't seem to add up.

(15x1) + (11x2) + (4x3) = 49?

Can anyone explain the difference?

she was 11-23 from the field. this includes 2 and 3 pointers. 4 were 3-pointers. 7 were 2-pointers. 15 were free throws.

12 from threes. 14 from twos. and 15 from the stripe. 41 total.

Congrats to Katie and the Cats on a great performance! It will be interesting to see how they do against the Lady Griz. Is there plenty of gas in the tank after this emotional OT win?

Out of curiosity, whose MSU single game record did she break and how many points did that person score in her performance?

Bussey is already third on the all-time scoring list with 1,572 points. She moved into third during the EWU game. She is now behind Kathleen McGlaughlin (1,761) and Viki Heebner (1,646). Her 232 3-pointers are the most all-time at MSU and just seven away from breaking the Big Sky Conference's all-time record.

Montana State has six regular season games left and, I'd say with last night's win, the Bobcats sewed up a conference tourney berth, so Bussey has at least seven games left in her senior season. She s 189 points from McGlaughlin, so she would need to score 27 a game down the stretch. Not impossible, but unlikely.

She is a lock for second, however. She is 74 points away, meaning she needs to score just 10 per game to catch Heebner.

On a side note, I agree with you bpcats. The Big Sky women is an incredibly balanced league. No team is dominate. Not team is a door mat. Weber lost to MSU by 3 and to ISU by 2 in the final minute. The only team I wasn't impressed with was NAU and that was just for a lack of discipline, because the Jacks have athletes. Getting into the tournament is going to be the key, because I think any team who makes it can win it. Literally, all six of the teams who go will be contenders to win it.

I don't really know Huse. From what I hear he's a wonderful guy.

I like what Binford has done with her program. She inherited a pretty big mess and has shown incremental progress each and every season. Her teams are fun to watch and you don't what to miss a game because you never know what you're going to see (like Bussey's big game last night). I could say the same thing about what coach Ash has done with the football team.

The really cool thing is Bussey is the only senior! She's going to be missed for sure, but I think this team is just going to get better and better. I just hope some bigger program somewhere doesn't notice and hires Binford away from us (though I'm afraid it's inevitable)>
