When is the Cat-Griz Rodeo Match?

No seriously, I do think the Bobcats are heading in the right direction with the possible exception of men's bb. Next year will be the determining year for Huse I would think. I'll admit I did not attend MSU; however, my daughter did. Plus, I buy season football tickets, I go to most of the men's and women's BB games, and I even chipped in 50 bucks for the stadium expansion (they couldn't have finished it without my sizeable donation). I'm a rabid Bobcat fan. And I will say it again, I do NOT like losing to the Griz as we have this year.
Frankly, I'm very thankful that MSU has Waded Cruzado for its president, because I don't think she believes in playing second fiddle to another state university either!
Earlier, when I posted this Cats vs. Griz topic, I was rather surprised at how many Cat fans almost seem satisfied with the status quo. I even got comments like, "Well, Ohio State dominates over Ohio; U. of Tennessee over Memphis; South Carolina over So. Carolina State, U. of Washington over Wash. State, etc. Give me a break!!!! THose aren't even valid comparisons. Ohio State plays in the Big Ten; I have no idea where the U. of Ohio plays. I know they don't play each other. Same with South Caroline and So. Caroline State. That's like comparing MSU with Carrol College. The U. of Tenn plays in the SEC; Memphis is in another league and they rarely play. Let's please compare apples with apples here! And I don't buy UW vs. WSU. Have you ever been to Pullman? Would you rather go to school in Seattle or Pullman?
I will say it again. Montana State is a great institution. It has great alumni and fan support. Bozeman is a great college town. Missoula has nothing over us. Consider this: Let's reverse the 2011-2012 year. Let's assume that MSU went into Missoula and we whipped them 36-10; then let's assume we dominated their volleball team. We swept them in both women's and men's BB. What do you suppose would be going on over in Missoula? Would their fans be saying, "Oh, that's OK, things are fine." I doubt it.
I don't hate the U. of Montana. In fact, I greatly admire their coaches of the major sports: Phlugrad, Tinkle and Selvig. Bobby Hauck was a classless jerk, but he is no longer there, thank goodness.
MSU should NEVER settle for second fiddle to UM in the state of Montana. I continue to believe that we are heading in the right direction with football and women's BB, though I was EXTREMELY disappointed with today's loss. I really expected much better. Kids want to play for a winner, so continuing to lose to the Lady Griz is not going to make it easy to recruit the best players in the state.
The Cats fought hard in the men's BB game tonight, but I just don't know. I'm hopeful that the BB program will suddenly revive in Huse's 7th year.
The bottom line is, MSU should be competing for championships in all major sports year in and year out, just as UM does. Doesn't mean we are going to win each year. But we should up there competing. And if we are not able to do that on a consistent basis, then something is drastically wrong and needs to be corrected.
Go Cats Go, Always.
