Re: MSU vs. UNC
Guess we learned what the Lady Griz learned: Tough to beat the same team three times in one season.
I think we have a very bright future going into next season. Now that the season is over and with all respect in the world due to a great player, Katie Bussy, I really think this team will be better next year and here's why. Katie was a senior and I noticed several times that some of the younger players were passing up very good open shots that lead eventually to Katie taking the shot, and it sometimes turned out to be a much lower % shot than what the younger players had.
I have seen this on other teams, especially on the high school level. Katie will go down as one of our all time greatest players and who helped build the Lady Cats back up to an upper echelon team in the BSC.
Watch out for next year!! THe key will be the off season. The girls have got to become more physical on the inside.

Re: MSU vs. UNC
In one sense I agree with you about the focus on Bussey, however we will miss what she brought to the Cats. A pure scorer that could create her shot anytime she wanted and had the confidence to take the shot and a go to player when we needed one. We will solid again next year....but so will every other team in the conference.
I do like the maturation of the ladies basketball program as a whole. Their team defense is light years ahead of where they were when Coach Binford started coaching.
As far as next year goes I am excited about the team as whole and especially with the addition of the incoming freshman and what they can bring to team already in place. Either way they will be capable of a conference championship run.
Next year's team:
Jackie Elliot - her upside is unlimited. One of the quickest players on the floor that is always hustling. Pleasantly surprised how her offensive production improved during the season. Has 3 point range.
Kalli Durham - reminds me scoring wise of Torri Hill at UM on offense and Deboer on defense. Will be our main 3 point threat next year, just needs more consistency from game to game.
Samansky - A double double every night. Will be heart and soul for next year's team.
Banis - Could turn herself into a dominating post player in the next two seasons.
Cole and Adams - defensive guru's
Emily Allen - might be able to develop into a mini version of Seidenstecker with all around contributions.
Symone Brown - have no idea what type of player she is but looks very athletic.
Incoming freshman:
Stockton - MSU has been missing a true point guard since Erica Perry graduated could bring a lot to the table.
Ferris - Best player in Montana that will bring a nice scoring punch
Dawkins - another Katie Elliot clone.
Hommes - could be another Sarah Strand (Balian) which this team needs

BP,
You're missing probably the second best player behind Samansky and that is Ashley Albert. Good scorer and very tough on defense.

I knew I was missing somebody. With Ashley Albert..she is probably the closest to a natural scorer that Bussey was on the team...the only problem is that she is not very consistent from game to game (scoring wise). With another offseason of working on her shot she will be the go to person on next years team. Perfect example of type of player that thrives in our program.

Peyton Ferris, Twin Bridges/MSU recruit, was named Gatorade POY last Thursday. She had 41 points in the championship game on 17-22 shooting. I wouldn't be surprised to see her start next year. Sounds like we might be after Kyndal Williams out of Helena High. She had an impressive tourney.

There are so many things to like about the womens team. Every year the talent is better, and every year these girls impress on the court, in the class room and in the community. Talk about a well run program!

I thought I heard that Williams had already committed to UM. I'm not certain of that though.[cat_bracket] wrote:Peyton Ferris, Twin Bridges/MSU recruit, was named Gatorade POY last Thursday. Nope she's deciding between MSU for basketball and MSU-Billings for volleyball.John K wrote:I thought I heard that Williams had already committed to UM. The 5-foot-9 guard, who was named Montana’s 2011 Gatorade Player of the Year in volleyball, is unsure which sport she’ll pursue at the college level. She has a scholarship offer on the table to play volleyball at Montana State Billings, but has recently been in contact with the Montana State Bobcats regarding basketball.

Re: MSU vs. UNC
It will be a very competitive season next year in BSC Women's BB. MSU only loses Bussey, UM only loses Ware whose skills didn't match well with the Lady Griz and didn't play much. ISU only loses Pickering, UNC and SAC are improving. Should be interesting and fun to watch. I know the Lady Griz will be extra motivated. They are not used to finishing 1 and done in the BST.
Thank you to all who have served and are serving this country in the military, law enforcement and or as emergency responders! God bless you and your loved ones! John 15:13

Re: MSU vs. UNC
A buddy of mine who worked at the State C tourney was VERY impressed with Ferris! I presume she will play as a 2 guard in college? It sounds like she could slide right into that position in place of Bussey. The MSU women will be loaded with young talent next season, and should be able to make a legitimate run at the BSC title during the next few years. I hope they take advantage of the opportunity that lies in front of them.[cat_bracket] wrote:Peyton Ferris, Twin Bridges/MSU recruit, was named Gatorade POY last Thursday.
