MSU has its first 2013-14 commitment

Vance Wentz is a 6-4 (6-3.5 one coach of his told me) 185 pound shooting guard from Leawood Kansas. Averaged 16 ppg as sophomore and junior for mid-conference HS team. Four-year varsity starter; played on an AAU team which won the Adidas Super 64 National Championship tournament in summer 2011. Rest is on blog.

I missed this over the weekend. Kid looks smooth and he can set his feet and get rid of it in a hurry, which is a necessity in college. A big plus. We need someone that can not only shoot threes, but make them. Welcome aboard.

Looks like nothing more than a spot-up shooter to me. Sure he's a good shooter, but it doesn't look like he can do much else.

What does it matter? He'll only be here for a year or two anyway, before leaving the program.

Hey guys. Kansas an here and I live in Lawrence but grew up in Olathe which is near Shawnee Mission East. This kid has game. I've always liked and followed Montana State so I hope you guys all the best. Ill keep up here. Go Bobcats!

Thanks for the info. Nice to hear from people who've actually seen a recruit play. What else can you tell us about him? What are his strengths and weaknesses?

Seems like as mentioned he is an excellent shooter with a very quick release. Maybe not much of an ability yet to get his own shot, and that is something he will have to work on.
Still, even if all he is in his career is a great spot-up shooter who will always keep defenses honest, that is not a bad thing to have.

Every year it seems like the top teams in the league have players that can stretch the defense. This allow the slashers and inside players more room to operate. If this kid is someone who will keep the opponents honest with his shooting the Cats will be much better for it.
Do you guys remember Danny Sprinke and Sullivan? Those guys didn't have the skill set to take it one on one but they could both shoot lights out. That opened up the floor for Lollis and the rest of the team. The same can be said about Domeko with the Firch boys benefitting.
