MSU vs Sac State
About to tipoff, we need an impressive showing going into the tournament, get some momentum. It would be almost unheard of to win 3 of our last 4 going into the tournament.

Re: MSU vs Sac State
Up 39-28 at half. Started slow, sluggish, but have figured out Sac's sagging zone defense and are hitting some deep shots, which is opening up the lanes.

Re: MSU vs Sac State
This team is terrible with a big lead. Sac on a 10-0 run, down just 2 now.

Re: MSU vs Sac State
We must have the worst perimeter defense in the country... 7-11 from downtown for Sac, and those aren't exactly with guys in their faces.

49 all, with under 7 left. Yes, 10 points in the half so far for the Cats...

So MSU is the 4 seed in the conference tournament and will play UNC in Round 1. I like the matchup, but perimeter defense needs to be better.

Wow the ups and downs with this team are crazy. Interesting how we never see the same players going off in consecutive games. Davis one game, Biglow the next, Moon this one.

Re: MSU vs Sac State
The Bobcats go into the Big Sky tournament RED HOT! Okay maybe orange hot...okay maybe dark yellow hot...but they did win 3 of the last 4 which is a lot better than previous seasons. We have Northern Colorado in Missoula on Thursday night at 8 PM. UNCU has been hot as of late too-so it will be a tough matchup. I'm sure Huse is happy to go to Missoula instead of Ogden-he can save some motel money staying at his folks...and MSU did have some success in that building in their last postitive Big Sky tourney run.
Today's game was interesting. We got to a nice lead right before halftime and then, as per usual, blew the lead in the second half. But after blowing the lead Moon and Davis really turn it up and got us some separation. Nice senior day for Moon who ended up with 23.
Sac did what all opposing teams do in the Brick-hit three after three. It looked like Huse employed a defense with taller guys like Davis and Coleman guarding the perimeter. It made for some weird matchups at times, like Dison on Dixon, but it slowed them down. Rebounding was also a problem in that set up but Sac missed a few put back chances which saved us.
Danny Robison has quietly shored up a real deficiency in the last two games. He was out with mono for a long time, but now that he's back Huse can give Egwuonwu and Davis a blow and not lose too much defense and rebounding. Robison, unlike Budinich who looks completely lost inside, does what you expect a 6'8" inside guy to do-defend, rebound, and not jack threes at inopportune times.
I was interested to see Jordan Salley from Sac State. Salley was probably Huse's top recruit a few years ago. He was even on campus at the start of the school year. But for some reason he couldn't get through the NCAA clearinghouse and he had to transfer to a JC. He's also had a lot of knee problems, but that seems to be behind him. He had a nice game for Sac today. It would be nice to have him here. But our inside guys, Davis and Egwuonwu are better I think so I guess it worked out.
Sac is a hard luck program. They're in need of NAU beating the griz tonight to get into the tournament. This after a very promising start to the season. They haven't been to the Big Sky tourney since 2006.
Huse pointed out on the radio after the game that MSU, um, and Weber are the only three programs to make the Big Sky tourney every year that he's been here (MSU has made 9 straight). That's something. But once the tourney starts the record is not so good for us. Maybe he can start to turn that around next week???
Huse will also make the case that this team was predicted to be 7 or 8th by the coaches and media and we ended up 4th. Is that enough to keep him as the coach? That's the burning question. In his favor is the fact that we have a pretty talented team coming back if everybody that's supposed to actually does come back (always a big if in the Huse era). The core is Davis, Egwuonwu, and Biglow, with Colbert and Coleman. Moon will be a big loss though. We'll need some shooters to kick it out to.
Interesting times ahead.
