New Assistant

Post by mslacat » Wed Jun 05, 2013 12:50 pm

I have this from at least 6 sources around the state. Brad Huse will be hiring Justin Wetzel currently an assistant at Montana State Billings. I don't know much about him.

hmmm.....think i remember that kid. i say kid because if it's who i think he's pretty young. think he was from cut bank or conrad or something like that.

can't say anything about his coaching as i have no idea. i will say i played against him a couple times in tournies round the state and he was the ultimate competitor and seemed like a nice guy. just worked hard and played ball. based on that and the fact that he seems to be climbing the ranks in a brutal profession pretty quickly.....i am semi-excited about this hire. i say "semi" only because it's pretty difficult to be too excited about anything msu hoops related these days.

His resume sure looks like he's the type of guy who will out work a competitor, and will be a high energy type of guy. I wonder what type of recruiting experience/contacts he's had in previous positions? Hopefully he brings some new energy to the program.

This is what I'm worried about. I don't know what the approach is at MSU Billings, but in Division I, you're just not gonna win with all Montana kids. I hope we hire an assistant with some serious contacts in Texas. That state has borne a lot of fruit for the football team.

Which is why this topic broke an almost two week postless streak in the basketball forum.

But the program's just fine. No need for Fields to find a new coach.

Good find BAC. This looks like a very good young hungry coach. Isn't that what most of us have been wanting? Head coach in waiting maybe???

Heard Brad Huse interviewed former 9 year NBA veteran and Nebraska star basketball player Erick Strickland for an assistants spot today.

Well, this interview (with it's quick reference about him looking for collegiate opportunities) is quite timely:

That's a hire that could help with recruiting.
