New Bobcat for 2013-14
I hear that 6-3 SG Josh Bray of Stillwater Christian High School in Kalispell will be a preferred walk-on with the Bobcats this year Bray averaged 23 points, 7 rebounds 3 assists 3 steals while shooting 51% from the field, 39% from beyond the 3 point arc and 86% from the free throw line. For those who did not know (like myself) Still Water is a Montana Class 'B' school. Bray is an athletic slashing player who can also step back and hit the three ball if necessary. Biggest knock on him I hear is the level of competition he played against at Stillwater. He is a real fun player to watch and I think he has a load of potential, it will be interesting to see him develop playing against bigger stronger and more athletic players. I know the Griz were really trying hard to get him to walk-on (actually that where I was betting he would land) there this spring but from what I hear MSU suits his academic needs better.

I hope he earns some playing time and a scholarship. I always root for Montana kids.

I wish we would start giving more Montana kids scholarships like the old days. But I'm glad he's coming here. Looks to be a pretty good get.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Well, if recent history is any indication, he won't ever see the court and will be gone in a year or two, so we won't have to worry about it. Sorry about my attitude, but I've given up hope on the MSU MBB program.CatBlitz wrote:I wish we would start giving more Montana kids scholarships like the old days. But I'm glad he's coming here. Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

That is unfortunate. I think they are going to be sneaky good this season.

I would like to think that as well, but the last five, six, seven, or so years has got me wondering if we will ever be good again.TrueCat wrote:That is unfortunate. I think they are going to be sneaky good this season.

I think they will sneak up on a slightly less than .500 season, make the playoffs (one and done), and brag that we have made the playoffs (one and done) for 50 straight years. (It may be less than 50, not sure).TrueCat wrote:That is unfortunate. I think they are going to be sneaky good this season.

Re: New Bobcat for 2013-14
I think this team could be a legitimate top 2-4 team. They have the talent. They do not have a lot of proven depth at the 4 & 5 once you get past Paul Egwuonwu and Flavien Davis but other wise they stack up pretty well. I also think Biglow is very capable of having an Conference MVP year. The big "IF" comes down to the coaches putting these players into a position to where they can excel. That means playing an offence that is suited to the players they recruited. It also means keeping the players involved and prevent season burn out by February. I have confidence that we have talented player, but now the coaches need to come through.
BTW Biglow is killing it in the California Drew League (this league features pro and top college players) this summer. His team played yesterday for the league championship (have not heard who won) and he has been getting rave reviews as a facilitator and a scorer.

Do we run the type of schemes that can maximize and showcase Bigelow's strengths?mslacat wrote: BTW Biglow is killing it in the California Drew League (this league features pro and top college players) this summer. Just my Opinion:
Some years ago Brad was concerned that the team was not athletic enough to run the type of defenses that he wanted, so he sent out his coaches and told them to find Athletic players across the board. The team is now a lot more athletic than it was 5 years ago. This was especially true last year and the year before. The problem was we were still running the offence that was geared a slower set up team. That does not always play to the strength of Biglow, Stewart, Blount, Moon,or Davis type of players. Huse has a play book is about a foot think. One of the problems new players have is learning all of the plays. In my opinion it is like using your new corvette to pull your boat and trailer to the lake. Maybe you should have bought a Ford F10 instead.

Stillwater plays in a league with other unclassified Christian schools and home school teams. Mainly played against Class A / AA JV teams and some varsity B teams in addition to the home school teams. I've seen him play the last 2 years against Whitefish JV. He's definitely a talented player with potential. I'm a bit surprised to see him at this level but hope it works out for him and the Cats.
