It's not basketball's fault that MSU isn't very good at it. Great game. Don't punish it by not playing it just because you're not good.
(I know you're not serious)

It's truly sad fans are even thinking this.
I'd hate to see this even get considered but the reality is it doesn't seem to exist in terms of receiving any focus or effort from the administration. It's part of athletics but nobody who can actually change things cares.
I'd support Lacrosse since I don't ever see the field house getting ice. Lacrosse is really fun sport and our club team gets after it.

I say let's take a step further. The big sky conference should just drop basketball altogether. If you look at the standings this year there is not one 20 win team. The RPIs are sky high and I can't think of one win this year by any team that stands out as a big win. It seems to me that the conference as a whole couldn't care less. I prefer college basketball over football but the product of this conference is not a division 1 level of play.

Northern Colorado beat Kansas state in Manhattan, Kansas, during the teams' first game of the season

Good win over a middle of the pack big 12 school. That is the best win of the season? If it is, we need to accept the same argument that says we like fcs football because at least we can win a national championship and move the conference to d2 where we have a chance.

If we move basketball to D-2 then we have to move football to D-2 as well. They don't let you be FCS football, which is D-1, and D-2 in basketball.
Somebody has to be near the bottom, right now it's the Big Sky. The maddening thing for me is, with the Big Sky being so weak, why can't MSU take advantage and be closer to winning it? Instead we just keep getting worse.

You asked for the conference's best win. I believe that is it. Look at who each team played. Also, when your conference plays 20 non-Division I opponents, like the Big Sky did, you're not going to get much. And if you move hoops to D2, like it has been said, you have to move football as well. This year was a very bad year for the Big Sky in basketball. I think the days of a Big Sky Cinderella making headway in the NCAA tournament, or even getting past opening weekend, are gone. As a conference, winning the NIT might be the best hope.

You mean winning a game in the NIT I guess. I agreed with you that is the best win. Thanks for looking that up. All I was saying is that should not be the best win of the whole conference. Also I agree there are way to many non d1 games. I don't really think that d2 is a real possibility either. I was just saying it seems that the conference doesn't care to or can't compete at this level.

That's a big part of the problem - few, if any, D-I schools will play at Big Sky Conference schools. Schools like Utah State won't make the 90 minute drive north to Pocatello to play a game unless it's a 2 for 1 deal (2 games in Logan, 1 in Poky). I remember when Weber State used to draw big names to the Purple Palace all the time. The Pac-12, MWC, and even WCC to a degree have all learned that it doesn't pay to travel away for games. If they do, they want 2 for 1's or an arm and a leg. They can stay at home, win, and build their RPI.
Mark Liptak, the play by play announcer for ISU basketball, posted a short interview on the ISU board he had with the associate commish about these same issues. The conference is even looking at the possibility of helping teams "buy" home games with D-I opponents.

I agree that actually playing a decent non-conference schedule, regardless of the W-L record, would be a good thing for our conference.
I miss the days of home games against Texas Tech, Oregon State, etc...
