MBB vs Utah Valley

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Sat Dec 06, 2014 11:16 pm

Geez-nothing on this game yet? Cats get a big 68-60 win over a UVU team that was in many ways a mirror image of MSU. Both teams are rebuilding and have similar limitations. It was a fun evening with the women blowing out Wyoming in the first game.

Marcus Colbert must run twice as much as any other player in Fish's system. He brings the ball up loops under the hoop and back out. He hardly sits because our backup point guard, freshman Joey Frenchwood, is still in a walking boot. Colbert was brilliant tonight. Nobody works harder. He's seems like the perfect guy for Fish's offense.

Eric Norman had that three point set shot working tonight. He had a huge 15.

I thought Robison's condition must be off because he looked gassed and Fish kept taking him out and subbing him situationally with Brumwell. Fish said on the post game show that he had the flu. No wonder he was gassed. He got a tough 10 points and even had a dunk-something this team rarely does.

Each win this team accomplishes needs to be cherished. The team has some huge limitations. But they got it done tonight.

We were able to make it to this game. I saw that the Utah team would be tough and was a little worried of the outcome. During the first few minutes I could see the Bobcats have not really developed into a smooth machine for sure, and I saw several times where it seemed that even Fish was not sure what play to call in. After a while we began to start rebounding, and I feel this was a great win. My family thoroughly enjoyed it! I am guessing there were more people at this game than there were at the first few others. Compare Fish to Utah Valleys coach and we have a gem! He was tough on a few players, but mostly in a guiding fashion. And, I like how he gets excited when things go right! It's congtagious. Go Bobcats!

Utah Valley is now 3-4 and have beaten Southern Utah and Idaho State plus South Dakota. Eastern WA beat them by 25. Davis and Sac State also beat them. They play Arizona next.

I think Utah Valley would be a lower half Big Sky team this season-just like us. They're rebuilding after winning the WAC regular season last year. I think this game was an excellent barometer of where MSU is at. Which isn't great, but a whole lot better than where I thought we'd be. Our road game at South Dakota could be a good measure as well. My hunch is this team will be much better at home than on the road. Unlike Huse's walk it up slowly system, Fish's high energy out-put offense and defense stresses a road team's weary legs. You could see us really grinding on UVU and I thought we had more energy than they did at the end. I think we'll have a better home court advantage under Fish than with Huse. But some teams are just going to be bigger and stronger and there's not much we can do-such as that NDSU game.

Weber State lost at Texas-Arlington 56-63. That's an interesting result as well.

I have not seen any attendance numbers for this game. Is there a place that has that info available online? Thanks in advance.

According to this it was 1,527. So not too much different than other games.
