WBB fights off Weber

Ladies beat Weber 74-71 and move into sole possession of 1st place — at least for an hour. Great play from the bench and awesome FT shooting down the stretch.
Her last significant time was 2 weeks ago against Portland. She was dressed today but didn’t see the floor today or on Thursday.blueandgoldblitz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 6:00 pmI'm sure I missed an announcement or something but where has Ava Ranson been?
Thanks for the update. Wonder what's going on there. I thought she had the potential to come in and be a star right away (kind of like White). Maybe she just needs more development.nevadacat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 6:05 pmHer last significant time was 2 weeks ago against Portland. With as poor a 3-point shooting team as Weber is, and all the backdoor cuts they do, I wonder why we didn’t go 1-2-2 or 2-3 zone on them,BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 5:54 pmCredit to Weber State's coaching staff. They are vastly improved over the last few seasons. The stuff they run is really hard to guard. Lots of cuts and back doors. We were in good shape in the 4th quarter-up 8 at one point. They were 0-for the three point line until they hit 4 in quick succession in the 4th quarter to get even a narrow lead for a few minutes. That was scary.
As noted, we couldn't keep them off the free throw line. I think they shot 36 or something like that. Good thing they missed quite a few. The technical when their center fouled out whilst knocking Darian into the first row was a big turning point-might have cost them the game.
We didn't shoot well from three point range. I don't recall ever taking a bad one-they just wouldn't fall. We did get a ton of offensive rebounds though.
Madison Jackson's energy in the 4th quarter before fouling out was a huge difference maker. She is really becoming a key player for us. Lexi Deden had a good game on offense-really kept us going in the 3rd quarter.
Thank you. Precisely what I was telling my wife and the TV all night. I suspect we haven’t practiced enough zone to be confident in running it during a critical game. It seems like they tried a little early in the season and it was not a completed work. A 2-3 would have stuffed those back doors and clear-out cuts, and eliminated a lot of bad size matchups because of our switching. I wonder what else Weber has to respond with? Certainly Montana or someone must have zoned them, and since all of their games have been close it must not have worked well. They probably just keep running through the lane, dragging pivot feet, and knocking Darians into the photographers until it gets called. We never shot any free throws in the first half! We actually ended up making almost as many free throws as they did because, except for Darian, everyone shot very well. Fifth in the nation at free-throw shooting.nevadacat wrote: With as poor a 3-point shooting team as Weber is, and all the backdoor cuts they do, I wonder why we didn’t go 1-2-2 or 2-3 zone on them.
If MSU and SUU don't have any more cancellations, they'll both end up playing 19 games because the one that isn't rescheduled is against each other. The beneficiary could be Idaho State who is scheduled to play all 20 games.aucat wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 12:15 amHas anyone heard whether or not we are going to make up the Southern Utah game? We have a home game against them on Feb. 19, but the one at their place has not been rescheduled to my knowledge. So what happens if we end up tied with Southern Utah in the loss column but they have more wins because we didn't make up the game?
Snarkily worried that SUU will have a Covid relapse about a week from Wednesday.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 7:42 amIf MSU and SUU don't have any more cancellations, they'll both end up playing 19 games because the one that isn't rescheduled is against each other. I assume ISU would earn the #1 seed if hypothetically they end up 16-4 and MSU/SUU are both 15-4 due to a higher winning percentage. Not sure how regular season championships would be awarded.
I am with you. I thought she would be a major contributor this year. When on the court she just has "the look" of a good ball player but after watching her in action awhile she just seems to be a step behind the rest of the team this year....and a bit tentative. I'm not sure what it is. I am hoping she gets a bunch of time on the court this next week as we hit another 3 games in 6 days stretch so keeping legs fresh will be important....being from the state of Idaho I hope she gets out there a fair bit on Monday night and performs well for any family or fans present. Hoping she can rise to the occasion and be a key contributor down the stretch.blueandgoldblitz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 6:08 pmThanks for the update. Wonder what's going on there. It's just a little crowded right now at the 2 spot with Limardo, Beattie, Jackson, and Van Sickle all logging minutes at that position. Ranson needs to improve her shooting accuracy. She has all the tools.BobcatDel wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 5:20 pmI am with you. I thought she would be a major contributor this year. Oooooo this is really getting ugly for reschedule timing for that game. I was originally hoping we could reschedule it between the Feb 19th home game against SUU and the Feb 26th game against the Gris in Missoula. But SUU already has a makeup game on the 21st. If it doesn't happen then, it would have to be Monday, Feb 28. That would then mean FOUR AWAY games in seven days (Gris, SUU, Sac State, NAU who are 4 of the top 6 teams in the conference).... this all happening the week before the Big Sky tournament with tourney seating on the line..... huge implications for the Lady Cats. And possibly no time for the ladies to even return home for a few days to rest up (it would be a real question whether you just leave the last game at NAU, travel to Boise and spend an extra few days lounging around hotels in Boise and finding a local practice facility or do they put in extra hours on the road traveling to Bozeman to sleep in their own bed a couple nights before heading to Boise. I know they have spent the extra time in Boise in the past.... so wonder what approach Coach Binford is thinking about it this time.)MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 7:42 amIf MSU and SUU don't have any more cancellations, they'll both end up playing 19 games because the one that isn't rescheduled is against each other. Agree it is crowded there and she is certainly down in shooting percentage this year. But she just looks out of sync with the offense when she is on the court...and as you know its kinda a chicken and the egg thing.... getting in sync helps with your shooting and gets you more floor time and if you don't get the floor time it is hard to get in the sync. Oh well..... like I said, I hope she starts getting the time as we are going to need her down the stretch here. And as you noted she has the skills to be a contributor.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 5:27 pmIt's just a little crowded right now at the 2 spot with Limardo, Beattie, Jackson, and Van Sickle all logging minutes at that position.
