Damn, that's unfortunate. That's the risk he took by transferring without graduating, though. Guess this proves that "my coach left" isn't enough to be granted the waiver automatically.

Interesting. Questions: (1) Could Raequan, in theory, return to the Bobcats if a scholarship/spot was available? (2) If Raequan does not play this season, will he continue to collect NIL money if he stays at WV and plays next season? (3) If Raequan leaves WV for wherever, does he have to pay back any of the NIL money?

He certainly couldn't return immediately since it isn't possible to register for classes in October. I think the answers to 2 and 3 would depend on the terms of any NIL contracts he may have signed.

Thank you, MSU01. Some folks on this board have suggested that Raequan's NIL money could exceed $100,000. Do you think that is true?

I really hope for his sake and the NCAA they reverse their decision. This would hurt his opportunities to get a better chance at a good euro contract if he cannot showcase his skills on a bigger stage. I think he had as much talent as I have ever seen wearing a bobcat uniform on the court. Goodluck Rae!

I don’t have exact numbers but I know that his NIL deal was closer to $200k. I’m not surprised that his waiver got denied considering his move was away from family and it was a jump In competition level. The thing I think is stupid about the whole transfer portal this is if he decided to leave UWV when Huggie Bear got popped for his DUI earlier this year he probably would have got it approved. Rae is an amazing talent but someone in his circle (Danny Sprinkle even) needed to tell him to just graduate from MSU before jumping ship. I hope his appeal goes through because watching him at West Virgina this year could be very exciting!

Wonder what it's like to have a governor that cares.

What aren’t we doing something like this with our Governor or elected US representatives?

Can Raequan even sit out a year? Didn't he already use his redshirt?

I believe he can. He played at UW during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons but only used up one year of eligibility due to the Covid season. Then played at MSU for two years, so he has one year left with his normal redshirt year still available.

I honestly think that is stupid. Doesnt our government have more pressing issues to work on?

You would think, especially in West Virginia.

Battle's NIL was $350,000. Another transfer got $500,000 plus of campus housing and a car. I assume Battle got those things too. Hope this gets figured out for him. "
"“RaeQuan is such a great individual, a great teammate and a very positive person despite all the challenges he’s had in his life. RaeQuan needs basketball in his life. He really does,” Eilert said. “To not be able to compete and if he loses some of that optimism, I worry for him. Having those conversations with him daily and being that mentor for him daily, sitting down with him and putting my arm around him and telling him one way or another, I’ll be here for him and West Virginia basketball is going to be here for him. Certainly, it’s a challenge for his mental health to not be able to compete, but I’m never going to leave his side.”
"“He makes me a heck of a lot better coach, because if things break down, RaeQuan can get the ball and get his shot off. I can be selfish about this whole thing and yeah I need him and our team needs him. We’re a lot better ball club with him, but for Rae personally, he needs basketball in his life. That’s what I worry about the most is his mental health and not having competition. It’s a sad situation.”

Battle still has his redshirt year.

Battle’s appeal denied. Apparently he has one other path for this season or he can redshirt and play next year.

Who cares? Let the kids play. Unlimited transfers would create much better competition overall.
(I’m ready to defend my take)

RaeQuan wrote what I would expect him to write. I have no problem with him moving on. However, I suspect there was more to his decision to move to West Virginia than what he put down on this post.
