Regular season Games are about 2 weeks out
The early signing period runs from Nov. 8th through the 15th
New Men's Coach!
Both teams are coming off of 20-win seasons!
Lots of new faces!
Secret Scrimmagea!
Did/are the men having a Blue/Gold game?

1) Womens Exhibition Game is Saturday at 1:00. Men don't "Technically" have an exhibition game.mslacat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2023 4:13 pmAnybody out there? I have not seen this board this empty in about a decade!

2) Women start the season with a very tuff BYU game (1st year in the Big 12), While Men start with Northwest Indian College.. A good game to start with for so many new faces
3) Mens recruiting seems to be 3 guard heavy, where as Womens seems to be focused on Forwards and 2 guard
4) New Mens coach seems great, but will be a LOT different offense than MSU has had in YEARS... Logie seems to have a fast paced, outside heavy shooting style, that has worked VERY WELL anywhere he has been. Will it take time? Maybe, but he is starting with a team that he can teach this too (and not have to shoehorn players into for past teams..)
5) I would be surprised, but not at all shocked if both teams end up with 20 wins again... Many people are overlooking MSU Women's team because of the player losses from last year, BUT I think they are still one of the top 2 teams in the Conference. They will be monsters on defense, and if they can find consistent outside shooting to open up the inside, they could be really hard to beat. As for the Mens team? Lots of new faces, BUT that is the story for most Men's teams in the Big Sky (Minus Weber and Montana)
6)See #5
7) Secret Scrimmage is just that so far... Haven't heard much, but know that they looked good at them
8- Men will not be having a Blue/Gold game, as they went to a couple places to play in Secret instead...

I'm more of a basketball guy, but my brain is too focused on football right now. I seriously hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid the men's team is going to struggle quite a lot. Sprinkle spoiled me. I think the women's team is more loaded than most in the league suspect and as with previous seasons, they will be very deep.mslacat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2023 4:13 pmAnybody out there? Re: Helloooooo
I also hope I'm proven wrong, but I think you're spot on. Coach Logie has been incredibly successful in his prior jobs and I think that will translate to the D-1 level, but at the same time the team lost so much talent from last year's roster that it's hard to see them finishing in the top half of the conference in Year 1. Even Sprinkle finished 5th his first two years before winning titles in Year 3 and 4, and he had Harald Frey in his first year.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2023 9:26 pmI'm more of a basketball guy, but my brain is too focused on football right now. The women's team is very intriguing. The roster doesn't look as strong on paper without the four transfer portal departures and replacing Darian White will be nearly impossible, but I also think they may be a lot stronger than we think by the end of the year especially if whatever off-the-court stuff that was going on with last year's team has been removed from the program.

Re: Helloooooo
Same concerns here. But I also remember back to the Choate\Vigen transition. I would have but a lot of money that team was going to take a step back under a new head coach. Nope. I get it, bit of a different scenario due to the player talent level, but we'll see what happens.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2023 9:26 pmI'm more of a basketball guy, but my brain is too focused on football right now. Re: Helloooooo
Just my personal take, but a few factors at play here.
1. Football is sucking all the air out of the room right now as far as fan attention
2. I don't think that the social media presence and fan engagement is quite as good from the basketball teams as it has been the past couple years
3. Fans (myself included) are still sore over Danny leaving and all of the stars and most of the contributors on the mens team going with him or other places. I have no real anticipation for what this season will be like, only hope of what it could be. Everyone is new. Since the all the practices and scrimmages have been secret there has been no opportunity to get a preview to help build the interest.
4. Similarly on the women's side with Darian and Kola no longer here I just don't feel the same level of attachment to the team. Once we get a few games in I am sure there will be a new fan favorite or two that emerges, but as of right now, its a blank slate.
5. Once basketball season starts up and I start reffing ball again I will be back in the saddle, but at least until this recent change in the weather, it hasn't felt like basketball season was upon us yet.

Re: Helloooooo
1. First thing I'll say is don't be surprised if when we get to Feburary, this team is in the mix for a BigSky regular season confrence title.
2. fans have no control over Sprinkle leaving or staying. If you were given a 4x pay raise with significantly more recruiting resources, and better financial resources to pay your staff, NIL, etc. you would leave too. The offer Sprinkle got was one that he couldn't turn down and we as fans should be greatful he stayed as long as he did.
3. Players go to the school they choose for the coaches not the school. There are very few schools who have the pedigree to pull recruits based on name and sorry but Montana State is not one of them. Darius, Rae, and Great will be missed but you cannot blame them for leaving. Be glad they got the opportunity to move on and put MSU on the map for developing great players.
4. Coach Logie is a winner and is a players coach. His system is run and gun and you will see a completely different type of offense than Sprinkle ran the last couple years. Sprinkle was going to transition to more of a motion style offense with Belo leaving anyways but with the roster this team has now expect them to run the court more.
5. Belo really limited what Sprinkle could do on offense.
6. The secret scrimmage against Wazzu came down to the wire
7. This roster is full of new faces and give them time to gel. The guys who stayed will have a huge role early on and look for them to accept the challenge.
I'm super excited for this season and look forward to watching new faces and a new style of basketball.

What do we have to look forward to in the early signing period? Is this when those who have verbally committed can sign on the line and make it "legal"?

Re: Helloooooo
The early signing period is when 2024 commitments have the first opportunity to sign with their teams. That should mean the following players should sign their LOI with the Bobcats
Men's team
Trap Johnson 6-6 PG/SG/SF Belton Texas
Women's team
Taylee Chirrick 5-10 PG Roberts Montana
Teagan Erickson 6-2 SF/PF Hinsdale/Saco Montana
Addison Harris 6-1 SF/PF Camas Washington
These are the folks we know of. In the past, there were occasionally some foreign player signings that surprised us. That said though the assistants for both the men's and women's teams that had strong foreign recruiting ties are no longer with the programs so it will be interesting to see if we can keep those connections open. Also, I have been hearing some buzz that the men's team may be looking at a few JCs so something might be happening there.

Personally I think signing kids two- three years out is not great option - missing out on other kids who bloom late and always risk of an early riser then fizzles out. Excited for seasons to start. See you Saturday !

Also re your comment on international recruiting, yes we have lost the foreign nationals who were assistants, but Ryan Johnson has quite a few International Connections for WBB. His Bobcat profile even mentions one of the 3 areas he works with is international recruiting. And from another bio on a separate board re Ryan i insert this snippet….
“He also has international coaching experience with the United States Basketball Academy and the Netscouts USA All Stars from 2012-15. His teams played against FIBA world national teams, including a matchup vs the Chinese Olympic Team ahead of the 2012 London Olympic Games.”

Sone more intel inside the Mbb program. The scrimmage at Pullman was a one point affair in favor of the Cougs. Read whatever you want into that, most pundits in the world of college bball say that the secret scrimmages are meaningless when it comes to scores.
The men are scrimmaging Western Washington tomorrow in BZN, and it is a closed door "secret" scrimmage as well. My source on the inside says that Rob Ford III is sitting this one out with some type of ailment. Go Cats!!!

Men beat Western WA 98-74 today in a scrimmage with officials at the Brick. Good production from a wide array of the guys.

Re: Helloooooo
I'm actually excited about the Men's team and the offense sounds like it will be fun to watch and I'm not worried about scoring points. I am a little concerned about us defensively, I'm just not sure we are athletic enough to guard the teams in the top half of the league. What are your guys' thoughts on our team D?

Re: Helloooooo
I am also excited about this year. I think we may have significantly more athleticism on this team than any of the teams recently. I'm intrigued about our new offense and hope it goes well.
While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."
