Bobcats win 73-63...according to the stat tracker. Limardo with 15, Deden with 14, Dykstra with 12.
Only 14-24 from the free throw line. 1 of 10 from three point land.

Didn't shoot well from beyond the arc or from the line but a pretty fair start.

Carroll was 27-6 last year and is ranked #6 in their division this year. Plus this game was at their place
and it was a game that celebrated their long history of playing women's basketball. So I'm glad we got out of there with a win
even though it was just an exhibition game.

Lack of an effective shooter from the arc has been noted in the scrimmage and both exhibition games. Limardo was the best percentage shooter on the team from the arc last year but we really haven’t been designing plays to post her up for shots. Although our inside game is strong we are going to need someone to emerge as the outside shooter or defenses are just going to sag to muck up our inside game. Just an opinion. But season is early and Coach Bin still looking at different alignments with new group of players. Go Cats…..glad to get out of Carroll with a win.

Very classy of Coach Bin being willing to play at Carroll in support of their 50th anniversary celebration.

I see we scored 50 points in the paint. Add in free throws and that doesn’t leave much scoring from anywhere else. The scoring is also mostly coming from our returning players. I was really hoping that one of the new additions to the team would show out offensively in the Carroll game, but it didn’t really happen. On paper there is a ton of talent, especially in the transfers.
I liked the fact that we played at Carroll, no matter the reasons. They have had a very good and competitive program for a long time and Helena, by Montana standards, is not far away. It was a boost to Carroll’s program, and a way for the ‘Cats to get more exposure in a town where a number of good players have come from — but who often have gone over to the dark pink side. Anything that strengthens our in-state recruiting is good. I was not worried about a loss to Carroll. If this Bobcat team is to be anywhere near the top of the Big Sky then they would win this game.
Go ‘Cats.

Yes indeed.
I would even liked to have MSU Billings for a game this year as a shout out to Kola Bad Bear as a kids day in Bozeman or MSUB event in Billings….just for the positive Kola provided to her community and to the Bobcats. She was such a good example for young ladies. (And yes I know we already have the school day set for this Tuesday in Bozeman against BYU at 11 am so it ain’t gonna happen….I am just saying I could have seen us doing that for Kola for a special game)

They bussed up the day of the game, which I think is pretty unheard of in D-1 basketball.
Anybody see any highlights? What was the crowd like?
I've played plenty of high school tournament games in Carroll's gym way, way back when. It's a nice place.

Like several others, I kinda would like Cats to play an exhibition game around the state. Used to have the triangle classic for FB…played in Great Falls back in my younger days. Back in 2017, men’s basketball played a home and home series with Omaha and our side of the home series was played in Great Falls to a sold out arena.
And BTW….if you hadn’t heard. MSUB played MSU Northern in Winifred. Listen to the video on the story by Scott Breen.

From these highlights looks like a great crowd. Leave it to the griz grad junior reporter to massacre the pronunciation of Limardo.

I was not at the game but here are some comments I received from a long time Carroll College supporter.
“ Yes. I was at the game and we did have a good crowd. Not capacity but good. MSU doesn’t look like they have any good outside shooters. They played pressure defense the whole game and we don’t pass well out a trap. We have some size too but not as tall as the Bobcats but we had a lot of offensive boards. Our 25 turnovers was the main story. Carroll had down to 3 points in the 4th quarter but then turned it over a few times and it wound up being 10 points.”

I made it to the game last night. It was a fun game to watch. If you didn't know Carroll is a very good seasoned team with an outstanding coach. They had a few more games under their belt and seemed to be clicking better than the Bobcat - at least in the first half. Here are some of my observations, of what I noticed. Our front court is VERY good and deep. This could be a very good defensive team. They are long and got their hands on the ball with 15 steals and probably close to the same number of deflections. The backcourt is a work in progress. There were some errant passes that were just off the mark or the receiving player zigged when they should have zagged. Phillip is solid at the point and played some at the shooting guard. True freshman Picton played 25 minutes off the bench at the point and she looks like she has potential to be a very good player for the Bobcats. She has some jets on her and if she sees an opening can blow by the defence. She is going to be a fan favorite. Dykstra and Deden are going to be a very good 1 - 2 punch down low and Limardo has picked up her game a little bit. She played a good portion of the game guarding Pickens all over the court. She had 4 steals and was deflecting passes or getting her hand on the ball, all over the court. Carroll had a really difficult time with her. It was great to see Madison (Jackson) Hall in the starting lineup. She does everything on the court for the Bobcats. Big-time pick-up for the Bobcats.
On the things to work on... I would really like to see a little better 3-point shooting. We went 1 for 10 from there and it really seemed once the shots failed to go in from 3 they stopped shooting. Against D-1 reams we will need perimeter shooting to open up out inside players. The Bobcats at times did not defend the three very well, especially at the corners on early offense. Carrol hit some wide-open daggers that took some air out of a couple of Bobcat small runs. This team needs to gell a little more. You could tell, especially in the first half, that chemistry was not quite there. They stayed poised though never got frustrated and were communicating well on the court.
I believe 12 players played for the Bobcats. Hein and Olson were on the bench but not in uniforms. I hear due to injuries. I do not think Boulanger made it into the game, I could be wrong. She may be a candidate for a redshirt. Depending on how significant Olson's injury is she also could be a candidate.
To be honest I am a little more excited for the Bobcat women than the men right now. Mainly because I see a whole lot of potential for the women. The men's players and coaches are a complete unknown.
