'Cat Women at Cancun Challenge

Post by 84CatGrad » Thu Nov 23, 2023 9:35 pm

Unable to watch as it required a $30/month subscription to a streaming service but I'm following along with live play-by-play. 'Cats were down 9-0 but have played well since and lead 58-48 over New Mexico with six minutes left. Lexi Deden has 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Cats win 75-57 going away, ended up shooting over 50% with Deden leading the way as usual. New Mexico was 4-0 coming in albeit against a fairly weak schedule. Cats play James Madison tomorrow who were blown out by Michigan State today.

'Cats sealed the deal 75-57 over a previously unbeaten New Mexico squad behind a monster 23 and 14 game from Lexi Deden. Marah Dykstra chipped in with 10 pts, 8 rebs and 7 assists. Limardo had 10 and 8 and Isobel Bunyan came off the bench with a career high 14. Great win Bobcats!

Listened to the game. Almost made me want to pay the Flosports subscription. Good job ladies.

FINAL: 75 Bobcats 57 New Mexico

Deden 23 pnts 14 Rebs 2 blks
Dykstra 10 pnts 8 Rebs 7 assists 2 blks
Limardo 10 pnts 8 Rebs 1 steal
Bunyan 14 pnts 3 Rebs 1 blk

I ended up paying for the subscription. Big game from the leader (Deden) again. The international experience Dykstra had playing for the Canadian National team during the FIBA World Cup showed. She always steps up when she plays in another country. Almost a triple double for her. Limardo & Hall’s solid and consistent. Bunyan w/ a great game off the bench. The freshmen Picton had 5 assists and only 2 TO’s in 32 mins. Everyone contributed this game. Happy Thanksgiving!

Sometimes you just need to get away from the day to day of academics, varsity sports, and travel. They played very loose, very fast, dominated the paint, put up like 20 assists, and won with defense. One player gashed them with eight threes, four or five in the first quarter alone. The ‘Cats shrugged it off, tightened up the D, erased the lead before halftime and never looked back. From what I can see on TV, the chemistry/joy is back, and this team is ready to go. They are very, very young with eleven freshmen and sophomores but there is a lot of talent in the top nine or ten and probably more. 💙 💛 😺

Picton and Bunyan are frosh. Dykstra is a soph. Think they’ll start working Berry, a frosh, into games more as the season progresses. She was at UNM for awhile last season so maybe she had them scouted.

Shoot over 50% and you’ll win a ton of games. Hard to do consistently though.

I agree w/ @Bobcat4Ever, watching the players on the court and the bench excitingly celebrate each other has been fun to watch. No drama or sideyes like last year. This team’s chemistry is coming along nicely. This is also evident with everyone stepping up in their roles. Shoutout to coach Bin & coach Sunny for creating a new culture this year b/c it seemed kind of toxic last year. This year’s team just has to keep it consistent all four quarters. Excited to see this team surpass expectations!

Cats lose 65-62 to James Madison, MSU led most of the second half after trailing at halftime but JMU hit the game winning 3 with 11 seconds to go and then added two more free throws after an MSU miss. Still a pretty good weekend overall, nice to see the team playing well and getting some wins and good experience playing together!

One of those nights. We coulda, woulda, shoulda won this game and it was really heartbreaking to see the
volleyball team have those big leads twice and let them get away. Just couldn't close the deal tonight in basketball
or volleyball. Really a shame since it was the VB team hasn't won a championship in 40 years and had it literally in their grasp not once but twice.

The Massey simulation had this game at 64-62 JMU. On the money. We lead for a good share of this one, but once again it seemed like we were not defending the three well. They had two shooters that were good — and when one of them would peel off and go to the corner, it wasn’t enough to try to close out by running from the key to the corner. Denial would have seemingly been a good thing. But lots of things went well. This team is getting to be a tougher out every game. I do hope Issabel Bunyan’s ribs are in their original locations. The three-stage drop the shoulder, elbow to the solar plexus, lay in was seemingly invisible. Go, ‘Cats! 💙 💛 😺

I’m not thinking anyone on the team will like this comment. Except the “Great work” part. 8)

What was the Lexi D injury? Hopefully nothing serious. She’s a warrior.

They hustled her back to the locker room and maybe rewrapped her knee? The wrappings looked a little different. She went back to playing hard. Hope she’s okay. Playing like a Big Sky MVP Candidate.
