Hope they don’t come snooping around our program again.

But it makes you wonder how long they can keep Holsinger there. It does seem like they're able to keep coaches as long as they want them. When's the last time a gris football or basketball coach moved up for a better job? Tinkle? They might be due. Maybe USU poaches the other guys this time around.aucat wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 9:07 amSome of USU's losses this year have been more than embarrassing. No surprise here. I think the main concern that Coach Binford has right now is getting our program back up to competing for championships and the guy over at UM appears to really be doing a good job. It's going to be tough staying ahead of them. This is the first year in quite some time that I would say that UM has a better women's team than MSU.
They've lost a lot of coaches to upward moves over the years. Joe Glenn and Bobby Hauck 1.0 in football, Larry K and Tinkle more recently in basketball with guys like Mike Montgomery and Stew Morill before them. It's one of the reasons why they were so dominant in the Big Sky Conference for so long. Consistently make great coaching hires and you'll have a lot of success, but you just have to realize that it's part of the business that the more success a coach has at the Big Sky level the greater the chances become that they'll get an offer from a bigger school. They of course got lucky with Robin Selvig being there for decades, similar to how MSU has gotten lucky with Tricia Binford who seems content to stay at MSU and not chase after bigger jobs. DeCuire seems to be happy there as well, although one could argue that he missed his chance to move up and is no longer quite the "hot name" he once was as UM has been down for a few years compared to where they have been historically.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 9:30 amBut it makes you wonder how long they can keep Holsinger there. Right, that's what I'm saying though. It's been a while, unlike MSU. Tinkle left 10 years ago this summer.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 9:45 amThey've lost a lot of coaches to upward moves over the years. Very true, it has been a while. I'd argue that it's less because they've done a good job of retaining their coaches and more because the coaches they've had haven't won enough games consistently to attract the interest of other schools. Perhaps that will change with Holsinger.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 9:53 amRight, that's what I'm saying though. It's been a while, unlike MSU. Exactly. Maybe it's the cynic in me, but I just think anybody who has success at this level is going to want to move up. Holsinger isn't a Montana guy, and he's in his late 40's. He doesn't have time to waste if he wants to go make a bag of money somewhere. It's going to be interesting to see, because I think in 3-4 years, there will be about a dozen MT girls playing Division I basketball. I'd love to see MSU poised to get the majority of them!MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 10:00 amVery true, it has been a while. It depends on how you look at it, I think. I would take this years Bobcat team at full strength over the gris at full strength. That is not the way it is of course.aucat wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 9:07 amSome of USU's losses this year have been more than embarrassing. No surprise here. One thing that’s baffled me with all the dumb head football coaches that moved up. I don’t believe a single one of them had a winning record after leaving Missoula.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 9:45 amThey've lost a lot of coaches to upward moves over the years.
